"Mhmm. Ah!" She lets out a triumphant noise at the sign of sparks, trying to nudge the kindling closer, but it didn't catch. Sighing, Kasey sat back on her heels and looked up at him, pointing to the light. Even she couldn't miss the tantrum he was biting back on.
"Tell you what. You light the fire, I'll cook, and we'll call this round a tie. Just add the pot when you get the fire going and cut some sticks for these to cook on." Specific instructions and ways to keep him occupied? It sounded good to Kasey.

"A tie? I don't know about that. I still think I could cook just fine. I think you need to sweeten the deal if you're trying to avoid a loss here." He crosses his arms and frowns.

"Oh really?" She raises a brow. She crosses her arms, mirorring him save for the fact the pointed stick is directed away from him.

"As it stands, whether I can cook or not, you lose first if the fire isn't made. If you want to trade, I need more convincing."

"I see." Her lips flicker, lifting into a slightly bigger smile. "I can't imagine what I what would be convincing enough for you." Yes she can. In fact, she rises to her feet, reflexively brushing her hands against her jeans as she turns to face him.

"You're a pretty imaginative girl..." He plays coy.

"Mhmmm." She tilts her head to the side with a sly smile and steps towards him, closing the distance until there's barely a foot between them, her hand reaching out to take the lighter, leaning in towards him for a moment before stopping and straightening once more.
"Of course, that would mean giving you three wins in less than an hour." And give him teh first round of the game he called inevitable.

"You say that as if it's a bad thing."

"Not bad, just interesting." She took a step back from him and let her hand drop back to her side, picking up the spindle she'd made and knelt by the fire, using the friction from a swift series of rapid motions to light the foliage at the end. It crackled and sputtered as she nursed it, then dumped it into the wood that waited for them.
Would he win? Maybe, but Kasey had no intention of just giving it to him.
"And that, I believe, puts me back in the game."

He snorts, crossing his arms and looking down at her.
"Beginners luck." He keeps staring.
"...or were you pretending you couldn't?"

"Nah, not luck." She grins up at him, standing and prodding the logs with the spindle. "Just old-fashioned stubbornness." She snorts and sets the spindle aside for later at his question.
"What good would that do me?"

"Women and mind games. I don't presume to know why you'd do it."

"Are you saying that men are simple?" She raises a brow at him, preferring to take a challenging stance before seeing how far he pushes the assumption of the sexes. Again.

"Arguably more simple. Do you disagree?"

"Sure." She chuckles and gestures at him. "I have an excellent example in front of me that suggests otherwise. Operating on simple or complex thoughts isn't something that relies on a chromosome."
