"You think I'm complex?" His interest piques!

"Sure." She grinned at him, working at the flames a bit to make sure they were going to keep going as they talked. Or rather, she talked. Making him wait and maybe wonder didn't hurt, either.
"Take the first time we met. You're not one dimensional, and you've shown you have a good grasp of complex subjects others would shy away from. You're not afraid of a challenge, or pushing yourself." She nods to the bag of fish at that. He'd not known how how to fish, but he'd done more than well in catching food for the night, nevermind so much of it. But what else was there? She thinks back to the campus-wide party that had happened, how she'd run into him before someone's jealous sparked things into getting out of hand.
"But, even though you do whatever you need to so you stand above others, you also try to avoid having too much attention on you. Haven't figured out why yet, though." Yes, Kasey is that person that would rather let someone speak when they're ready about such things.
Not so much the part about how he'd rather put himself in a position where someone either wants to lose, or has to.

He taps his chin with his finger, nodding along with her as she speaks. When she's finished he holds up his index finger.
"Okay," he starts pacing.
"You have some good points but I can argue that those qualities make me one dimensional. Complex subjects and pushing myself. It's all about being the best. Competition, just like today. If anything, that makes my motives pretty linear, don't you think?"

"Only if it makes me one dimensional, too." Kasey shrugged at his counter, pointing at her pack. "Complex subjects, pushing myself; the difference is I work with technology instead of the human body." Her smile fades, albeit briefly, as she thinks on the subject at hand. She stretches as she rises to her feet, still speaking and relatively upbeat.
"Maybe a little, but honestly, your motivations can make all the difference in whether you're complex or simple. Two people can have the same goals and similar traits, but what drives them, what inspires them? That can make a big difference." She gave a sheepish laugh and stepped back from the flames as they grew.
"I guess it depends on why you want so badly to win in your competitions. Why you feel it's inevitable that people back down or out."

He clear his throat, looking at her with mild amusement.
"So then, what are your motivations? Unless it's too personal?"

Kasey gave Greyson a curious look as he cleared his throat, but he seemed content to press the matter rather than comment on whatever amused him so much. She huffed quietly as she looked away. He'd dodged the question again.
“Some are personal, but for the most part, I'm just a normal person.” It was perfectly normal for a civilian to go out and heckle or chat with supers as they saw fit. Perfectly normal to go dragging them out of a lake or take a copmany's building by storm in retaliation. Perfectly normal to go camping with a guy she barely knew. Her gaze went back to him as she spoke.
“I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours.”

Normal person? That comment causes the largest frown from Greyson she's seen.
"Okay. But I have several motivations depending on the subject. You'll have to pick one first."

"I'm sure you do." She pauses, catching the severe frown and returning it with a small, worried one of her own. Her gaze flicks over him, but nothing Kasey saw gave any hints as to what was bothering him.
"You okay?"

"Yes, I'm fine." He brushes it off immediately.
"I just don't like that word. 'Normal.'"
He holds back from spitting.

She blinks as he seems to just brush it off as though she hadn't just deeply insulted him. Obviously that was more than just a 'normal is boring' thing. It would be best to move on quickly.
"I'll keep that in mind." It was true though, for the most part. Well, except for the "I create things behind closed doors that most people can't handle" part. Greyson didn't need to know about that.
"Okay, let's start with improving ourselves. We've talked about balancing mind and body, and you've told me that you refuse to lose or be less than the top percentile. I'm guessing that's more than just liking a challenge."

He takes a deep breath, the look on his face showing a deep contemplation about how he intends to respond.
"Do you ever take a look around the world...and are extremely disappointed? I am. I think to make things better I need to be better. Ghandi said "to be the change you want to see in the world" and I think he had a point."

Kasey lets him think without in silence, listening without interrupting and only offering a nod in response to his question. She could understand that, the desire to change the world into something better. To be a part of that change and help it move forward.
"I think it's good to strive for something. There's nothing wrong with wanting to change the world. It sounds like he's been a bit of an inspiration to you." She trails off with a thoughtful hum, looking to where they had first entered the clearing as she contemplated her own answer before looking back to him a few moments later.
"To me, there's just...more out there. More to accomplish, to change. Like you're standing in one place and know you've got farther to reach. Like you should be standing somewhere else." She looks down at her hands, at the stained finger pads from gathering some of their food, at the nails that were short but neatly trimmed. A small burn that wrapped around the top of edge of her left wrist and, if she turned it over, would wrap around to stretch down a small portion of her forearm. A mark of an early experiment gone wrong with live wires.
"But I can't do any of that if I just stay standing still, you know?" She looks up at him again with a wry smile.

He snorts, quickly masking the response as one of embarrassment as he rubs the back of his head.
"Well I do figure myself a humanitarian. That is why I'm trying to be a doctor after all."
Barf.
"That makes sense. I've felt the same way on many occasion. To stand still is stop progress."

The sound startled her enough to hold Kasey's attention on Greyson, though she believes the facade he puts on for her. She shakes her head, smiling in amusement at his explanation, but nods at the last statement and addresses it first.
"Exactly. No one ever knows how far they can go, but stopping just holds you back." Again her lips quirk in a smile that's closer to mischief as she tilts her head to the side.
"The humanitarian who wants others below him or out of the way. That is interesting."

"Well...if you're not pet of the solution, you're part of the problem. Right?"
He tries his best smile.
