Sergeant Steel finally returned his attention to the fight after reviewing ARTI's diagnostic. It seemed a few things had happened while he was focused on his AI's report. He would need to be better about that in the future. "Mind filling me in on what I missed, ARTI?" the hero asked.
"-Certainly, sir. The other supers have entered the jewelry store already and a fat cop was leaping across the roof,-" ARTI said.
"Well, that's certainly...odd," Steel responded.
"-Says the man in a super suit,-" the AI answered.
"Fair enough." Sergeant Steel replied to the AI. He looked back at Stunt Double as he clapped his shoulder and gave him encouragement. The super nodded and made his way to the front door of the jewelry store and ungracefully kicked the door open. He stirred up a cloud of the thick rainbow dust in the air and it blocked out most of his vision. "Switch to thermal vision," the hero ordered. The HUD in his mask light up with reds, greens, and blues along as the camera shifted. Most of the room was blue save for two heat signatures in the middle.
"Identify," Sergeant Steel said.
"-Aurora and Blue Jay, sir.-"
"Let's hit it then."

The flood of sparkles Aurora launched at Sergeant Steel was an attack if Stunt Double had ever seen one. By the time he realized what was happening, the mechanized hero was already partly engulfed.
There was no time to verify whether Sergeant Steel had a countermeasure of his own or not. Stunt Double drew on his power once again!
Sergeant Steel was teleported inside the building, and Stunt Double suddenly found himself back outside, this time with a body that was a perfect replica of Sergeant Steel's suit, in the midst of Aurora's attack. His bulky metal limbs were similarly useless at fending off the sparkles, and he stumbled back as he struggled to adapt to his new form.

Aurora stopped momentarily next to Blue Jay, her eyebrow twitching. She couldn't let herself get distracted right now, but he would get it later. For now, she settled with kicking him in the shins with the metal toe of her boot.
"It's DISICIO. Des ee kee o! It sounds nothing like disco! It's Latin."
She successfully made her way to where she could see the hero outside. Her attack struck home, and with a smug look on her face, she turned around only to see her target standing right behind her. She blinked and jumped backward. It was fortunate she kept her particles around her too. By the time his beam hit her it was as harmless as a flashlight thanks to all the collisions it had to go through to get to her. Aurora stuttered under her breath as she tried to piece together what was going on. Could he clone himself? Was it just a fake version out there? She kept a scowl on her face to hide her confusion, and tried to keep her mumbling as quiet as possible. It didn't matter. All she had to was kick their collective asses. Getting stuck on the details would just distract her.
Aurora pulled all of her particles back inside, and continued to dissolve more objects into her cloud. Any spare second they let her have would be spent gathering more materials to use against them. She rolled her eyes at the other villain.
"It wouldn't do much good if I let them hide from it. I warned you that I would be doing something in here. And after that last comment, I want him now. You go deal with the other guy. This one should be virtually powerless now anyway right?"

"-Sir, incoming projectiles,-" ARTI stated just as the rainbow particles began to engulf him. He could hear them bouncing off the metal exterior of his suit. The visor was completely obscured by the rainbow, blocking out any sight he could have had, thermal or otherwise. Sergeant Steel growled under his breath as he covered his face.
"Suggested course of action?" he asked the AI when suddenly, his vision cleared. He had moved from outside the store to inside, where the air was much clearer than where he was before. He turned back and saw... himself, in the attack with Aurora still looking at him(?). The particles quickly came back inside, though, and his vision became clouded again. The thermal vision turned back on in response. Sergeant Steel looked back towards the store's interior. Blue Jay and Matter were still there, though Blue Jay was now without his weapon.
"-I would suggest helping your ally, sir,-" ARTI finally said.

The hero was unstable enough in the glittering cloud that all it took was a single good kick to knock the longsword from his hands. His grip loosened - the back of his hand began to really hurt - and the sword flew free of his person. Metal clattered on the ground and was soon surrounded by a big heap of rubble and junk. Or at least, that’s what he would’ve seen had he been able to see anything at all. Blue Jay had keen enough eyes he could make out forms and figure up close, if he squinted, but that was about all.
And then there was a sharp pain in his back, and he felt a strange sensation unlike anything else he had before. It was as though a part of him had been shut off, but which part he couldn’t say. And then he got kicked in the knee. The unarmed hero stumbled backwards until he was caught by one of the remaining jewelry cases, stepping tentatively on the injured leg. Damn metal in the toes and flesh lacking in resistance to metal.
Blue Jay felt like he should be one of those fantasy heros who just calls the name of his weapon, or holds out his hand, and it’d come back to him. Blue Jay was not this kind of hero. Would the sword come back? It could, but of course it wasn’t going to, that damned thing. Not right now, not soon enough, anyway.
But he wasn’t yet out! Well, mostly he was, but just because he couldn’t do anything didn’t mean he couldn’t do anything. Blue Jay wasn’t afraid of one of the villains offing him with a single blow, even if he was weak and hardly worth more than the policemen gathering outside. The sword wouldn’t let him die. His back throbbed and his mind was swarming with adrenaline, but he could still be a thorn in the side.

Matter's....matter....went into Blue Jay's back. The hero was taking a bit of a beating. This was Matter's opportunity to get back to his ally. Matter quickly slipped back into the floor attempting to escape for the time being. He made his way back to Aurora, and slipped back up to the surface. "I suppose so...that can be used to their advantage as well couldn't it..." What she said next, he couldn't really disagree. She had logical reasons, and it didn't seem like attacking the other hero would be a bad thing either. "Very well. But know this Aurora, I'm doing this simply because this hero isn't proving much of a threat. Not because you've given me an order."
Turning around, Matter was ready to take action. However...he saw...two...Sergeant Steels...that was problematic. However...Matter was known for having a sharp eye. Or well, he knew he had a sharp eye. No one should really know that of course, that'd just be weird. He could obviously see the imposer struggling as he was trying to play Sergeant Steel. "You're no hero. You're just a fan boy who can copy forms." Turning his attention to the real Sergeant Steel, he decided to make his move.

Stunt Double was alarmed when the villain seemed to have such an easy time spotting the difference between himself and Sergeant Steel, but it was clear that the full scope of his abilities had yet to be recognized.
This was normally the part where Stunt Double would have some sort of witty quip to reply, but whatever speaker system that Sergeant Steel was using hadn't been carried over to Stunt Double's imitation. And without a working mouth, there really wasn't anything to do but use his power.
Stunt Double threw himself to the side, and since the orbs of matter weren't even being targeted at him, he had no trouble getting out of the way. Then he drew on his power once again, placing himself in the path of the attack and moving Sergeant Steel to safety. Since the two of them already looked identical, there was no sign of the switch until the orbs made contact.
The attack immediately put the lie to Stunt Double's imitation - where one would expect steel to crack or melt, the steel-looking flesh that made up Stunt Double's disguise instead bruised and blistered, shifting colors like a startled octopus as he silently waved his arms to try to fend off the enemy.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Aurora waved her hand dismissively at the other jewel thief.
Whatever let him sleep at night. It was obvious she was the leader here, and he was following her lead. It was obvious that her plans were just better than anything he could come up with. He was fine, she didn't feel the need to interfere too much, as long as he continued to follow her orders. This hero though...
Aurora wasn't sure what was worse, the fact that he was still calling her disco, the fact that he tackled her, or the fact that her attack didn't seem to phase him in the slightest. She didn't expect someone that named themselves after a stupid, harmless bird would understand the importance of reputation. Reputation was important in general, but it was especially important for someone like her, someone in the horde. Anyone that didn't have respect there would be little more than an abused minion. Fortunately, he was only doing this because he was losing. Badly. He couldn't do anything else. She knew this, but she still couldn't let him get away with it.
The tackle did little more than catch her off guard, and knock her to the ground for a moment. Aurora started moving her particles around rapidly. By doing this, not only would it be rubbing up against the hero's skin uncomfortably, but if he wasn't careful, they'd gradually force their way into his eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Of course, she tried to push him off at the same time, she was stronger than she looked, but trying to force him to cough, or otherwise do something that would make him lose her grip on her would make this easier. She felt a few of the glass shard stuck in him dig into her own skin, which likely meant that they were digging into his skin further as well. Yet he didn't seem particularly bothered by it.
"Why...won't...you...BLEED!"
The words came out of her mouth between attempts to push him off, or knee him in the stomach. The entire situation was infuriating. She had beaten him, he should just roll over like a reasonable person already! The fact that her attack had done so little was annoying, but it also told her she didn't have to worry about hurting him too much. He could clearly take it. This guy was out of the fight, but he was a nuisance. She needed to focus on the people that could actually fight now. If given the opportunity, she'd try to knock Blue Jay into one of the many holes she created in the floor. Even if he caught the edge, it would take him a second to get back up. By then the fight would be over. Even if she couldn't get him off...well unlike him, it's not like she had to be in melee range to be at her most effective.

Matters matter Orbs soared towards Steel. While he did so, Steel made way for his own attack. The stores wires which were set about seemed to charge up. Lightning bolts were going to strike Matter, but he threw his matter orbs in the way of each strike blocking it! Mini shock waves came about with each strike! This battle was intense! As each shock wave emitted, bits and bits of particles from Aurora were blown a bit before coming back to where they once were, clouding the area again almost immediately! Now was his chance! Throwing the rest of his matter orbs towards Steel, they looked like they were gonna hit. Matter saw that stupid hero wanna be jump in the way and...switch places with Steel?!
Matter glared angrily as the matter orb pellets struck him. The 'metal' began tearing instead of cracking. Strange glowing features were shown on the fleshy material. Matter watched annoyed. Looking back at Aurora, it seemed as if that 'hero' was giving her a hard time. Matter chuckled softly. "Is he proving to be worth while Aurora, dear?" Matter joked. Turning back at the situation at hand, he squinted his eyes directly at Stunt Double, forcing eye contact with that menacing glare of his which hid behind his white mask.

Several attacks hit in quick procession; the black orbs from Matter came first, and again seemed to take a piece from him. This one, however, felt more distant, but concrete - indeed, he could pinpoint the feeling to that which he felt when calling for one of his shock waves. He could also say he didn’t like the feeling at all. He would continue this statement onto the next attack to come; namely, glass shards from the sky. His arms moved reflexively to cover his head after he felt the first one hit his scalp. Several blade-like pieces of glass sliced into his arms and back, easily cutting through his t-shirt but gaining much less ground upon hitting skin. Then, lastly, came his own “attack”. His eyes were shut from the falling glass and the particles swarming in the air only made him squeeze them tighter, but he felt when he slammed into her. Blue Jay grabbed her, determined not to let go. Sergeant Steel was still fighting; he had to help in any way he could. Even if this fight was only about… stealing jewelry, was it? He wasn’t sure how much saving losses for property owners was the point anymore. He hoped the owners had good insurance.
When Blue Jay spoke, his voice was quiet and in gasps. “All it takes is a civilian to knock you down, huh Disco?” The fight was starting to wear on him. Or rather, it began to wear on him after Matter stabbed him, but he was actually admitting his fatigue to himself now. Contrary to Aurora’s statement, he was bleeding. Mostly where the glass stuck in him. His face stung and his shut eyes stung - but even so, he was greatly enjoying himself. This was one of the best fights he’d gotten himself into in a very long time. Even if he was sucking at it.
But the time had come for him to make his graceful - albeit unintentional - exit. Grinning beneath his mask, he gasped, “Can’t even take out someone without powe-” Blue Jay’s last word was cut short with a cough as her knee knocked air from his stomach. His grip was loosened yet again by one of her kicks, but this time it he who was knocked away. Fearing a kick and more than ready to get out of the thick of the swarm, he tucked his arms in and rolled, thinking that the course of action with the least chance of harm. Sadly, he was mistaken. Blue Jay fell down one of the holes.

Sergeant Steel saw the matter orbs fly towards him and threw his arms in front of his face in defense. He was about to shout at ARTI to activate the suit's shields when he was moved from where he was standing again. He looked back to his original position and saw the other him taking the punishment for him, though it looked like it was hitting skin instead. The hero winced underneath his helmet as he watched Stunt Double's disguise blister. He hoped the other man could keep holding up against those attacks.
The situation was getting worse and worse for the heroes. More and more of the jewelry was disappearing and Blue Jay was taking a beating form Aurora. She landed a kick in his stomach and sent him tumbling down into a hole in the floor. Sergeant Steel fired up the thrusters on his hands and feet and rocketed towards the hole he had fallen in. The hero pitched downward and zipped beneath Blue Jay, catching the smaller hero and hovering in the air. "Are you alright?" he asked as he flew back up and landed on a piece of solid ground and set Blue Jay down.

Lobisomem had been perching on a rooftop, watching the struggle below them with hopeful eyes, as if watching a sports game of some kind.
Ultimately, they had decided against joining the fight, even though their chest screamed for the to bash up those villains! But...they'd just destroy everything, right!? A beast would't fit in there...
By, now, they were regretting it, especially when they saw the wounds the heroes left in. They sighed as they were spotted by some sharp-eyed cop and leapt onto a surrounding roof, bounding away into the night.
They'd remember those faces, and next time, maybe they'd help.
