Geata had covered the area with portals. It was an attempt to dissuade the random unpowereds from getting close enough to get hurt, but it seemed that Jay had decided to make that moot. The destruction caused by the sword was certainly unexpected and widespread, and Geata didn't even need to look outside to guess that there were probably civilians caught in the crossfire. All things considered, the sword was definitely a jerk, especially since it wasn't likely that Jay decided to try intimidation tactics at the expense of onlookers.
Probably.
Random motorcycle guy and Halos seemed to be taking an unhealthy interest in random other attempted hero. Bonehead apparently decided that Jay needed a good old fashioned beating - good thing Blue Jay is used to being a punching bag - so that left Geata free to do whatever he wanted. And what Geata wanted was to open a portal inconspicuously on the ground behind Jay. The portal, should anything go through it, would lead to the newly made hole outside. If Jay were to be successfully punched, odds were that he'd fall through the portal and into the hole.
Geata found nostalgia hilarious.

Fleet suddenly halted and gasped, knees trembling as he tried to stay steady on slick ground. He barely noticed the drone whipped toward him until the last moment, smile freezing for a moment.
He threw himself to the side just in time, feeling the pressure forcing him into the ground ungracefully before he whipped his head up, "Owowow...that hurt you jerks!" He shrieked, staying on the ground as his fingers moved unaturally, clearly not giving up.

The spinning blades strike true to their targets, and the event around it going just as it has predicted. Blue Jay’s sword once again let loose its signature destruction all over the other building with it blast of energy, nearly wreck the drone in the day. Good thing the drone managed to maneuver out of the way just in time for the destruction to happen.
Fleet is lying on the ground, swearing at the drone and was ready for round two. With the rain starting inside the store, HaLOS need to handle the situation quickly before they finally get the upper hand. HaLOS' mainframe begin to calculate a possible solution in order to handle with the situation.

Blue Jay swiveled his head between the destruction and the robber, and pointed at the wreckage. “That- that wasn’t me!” Well, obviously it had been. Blue Jay was starting to feel a mild panic as the air began to hum ominously. The tables of intimidation had turned, and he was starting to look quite the part of a hypocrite. “The sword-” he began again to explain, but stopped himself. He doubted there was much point in trying to explain, and the only one he really cared to know was Geata and he could probably piece together what had just happened. Hopefully. At least, another strained glance said, no one seemed to have been too greatly hurt.
Letting out a long exhale, he - carefully - slid the sword back into its sheath over his shoulder and undid the clip keeping it there. That seemed to keep it from doing that particular quirk. He raised the sheathed blade up to his shoulder.

The motorcycle roared past, barely missing Fleet as the super was knocked down by Mask's attack. Rather than turning and attempting to interfere with the fight, the biker simply carried on down the street, quickly getting clear of the fighting and vanishing past one of the large clumps of police and civilians, moving too fast for anyone to stop.
Meanwhile, Blue Jay's shockwave tore through the ground and the nearby buildings, turning what had previously been a minor robbery into a major disaster zone. Within seconds, he'd start to hear the screams.
The first ones were high and sudden, expressions of surprise and fright as those close enough to be affected by the blast desperately tried to escape. These short sounds, however, quickly gave way to long, keening wails, the sound of animals in pain. Even if the blast had not been intended to kill or maim, there was no such thing as control in a situation such as this. How appropriate, that on Blue Jay's first outing as a Pandaemonium he'd shed the blood of civilians and made himself known as a destroyer.
Not all those nearby had been caught in the blast, however. One woman, instead of fleeing away from the battle, came closer, ducking to avoid rubble as she stumbled, stopping just in front of the slice in the ground. She glared at the former Bulwark, her eyes bloodshot and livid, as she spat a curse at him, her voice overflowing with venom and hate.
"You monster."
It was hard to say where she'd pulled the handgun from, but pull it she did, firing twice at the sword-wielding super. The shots went wild, but she was already adjusting her aim, zeroing in on Blue Jay's head.

The sword, as much as it seemed to enjoy watching its wielder suffer, seemed to have at least enough common sense to not take things so far that it got itself stuffed up in the top of a closet. It also had impeccable control over its abilities - only moreso now that Blue Jay himself was becoming more skilled with the blade. Such a precise (... as far as large scale damage could be considered precise) maneuver was well within the grasp of the weapon. The bulk of the blast’s force had been focused in that initial area; everything beyond the first two buildings had been hit with significantly lesser power. The two buildings had been empty - people were also at least sensible enough to recognize the danger, especially so soon after the dragon attack. Everyone beyond there had not been hit with lethal force.
Blue Jay’s eyes narrowed on the woman. Her words drove what felt like nails into his spine, and his gaze faltered from the super in front of him. He knew the wails were not ones of death, he could see no one dying. This woman was clearly mad, as the biker who had gone by not long before was.
Either way she had to be dealt with, before there were any real deaths. He vanished, and when he appeared again, he was directly before the woman. His hand moved to snatch the muzzle of the gun and moved it aside, from him and the other supers.
Regardless of if he managed, he looked the woman in the eye and spoke darkly. “Leave. You don’t belong here. If you don’t, I’ll fire again.”
If she made to shoot him again, be it through wrestling or him failing to grab the gun all together, he would simply teleport away. He was unlikely to make good on his threat (probably the most he’d do is shoot some waves into the sky), but hopefully it would be enough to dissuade any further attempts at civilian ‘heroics’, or whatever else the woman was trying to accomplish. There was a battle to get back to, after all, and he owed it to his friend to have his back until it was over. Blue Jay displaced back towards the group-
And landed directly above Geata’s cleverly placed portal.
Meaning Blue Jay fell through a hole into a bigger hole, and it wasn’t until Blue Jay was falling that he had much an idea at all as to what was happening. The ground was suddenly either about ten or sixty feet down - depending if one wanted street level or how much air there was between him and anything solid - and Blue Jay let out a second yelp of surprise as a team effort between Karma, Gravity, and Geata dropped him into his own hole. A truly terrifying team.
Unable to fully regain himself for reasons of complete surprise, he landed on his back atop a fairly large utility pipe. Thankfully, of all the types of damage the sword was good at mitigating, fall damage was by a long shot its best. The impact was about as much as if he’d been pushed backwards off a foot-high ledge and, since the rest of his limbs gave the equivalent of a ‘not it’, the duty was passed to his back. He let out an “oomph”, and let himself lay there.
Not out of pain; he could pop right back up if he wanted. No, he was formulating means of getting back at Geata.

In all actuality, Geata was able to do more than just throw portals everywhere without much planning. Sure, it was what worked best, but he was significantly more capable than that. His reaction time was near instantaneous, and he was quick at making decisions when the mood struck him. He had stopped plenty of bullets from hitting his general person; while his preferred method was a portal inside the gun, he was also more than fast enough to catch a midair lead projectile with his portals.
The raving loon of a woman caught his attention, and he was prepared for the gunfire. Each shot was met halfway with a portal directly leading to a chunk of brick wall that had been blasted away from its accompanying building. It distracted him slightly, but the benefit of throwing everything everywhere was that being distracted from perfect placement was a non-issue. Geata was still aware of where each portal was and where it led, so no problems arose there, either. He was just not paying attention to where they were in regards to their surroundings.
The main robber was all but forgotten, as was the Keeper drone. The woman was being handled by Jay, so things seemed to be going fairly well. Until Jay suddenly appeared over the troll portal and started to fall.
Geata blinked in surprise at how Jay actually fell through before suddenly realizing what had just happened. A portal appeared directly in front of Geata, and another opened a few feet above Blue Jay. It was a couple feet in diameter, just large enough for Geata to get a good look at the scene.
"You alright Jay?" His visible facial features betrayed a grin, but his tone was genuinely concerned. "I didn't think that'd work, honestly. Sorry, man."

The rain continued to interfere with the drone’s sensory system, just as HaLOS has worry about. Even though the probability of them getting away with the loot is close, it still have a nagging feeling that there’s a chance that they might fail this. So while both Geata and Blue Jay are currently busy dealing with the armed woman, HaLOS began its process of retrieving some of the material scatter around the store. It only gathered a slight handful of the diamond before making its exit out of the giant hole that Blue Jay made with his power from earlier. It isn't enough to be obvious to any investigators (especially when Blue Jay's blast probably destroyed some of them).
Using the obscuring of the rainfall, HaLOS brought in a new drone in order to replace the old one. Since the design of the drone is a complete copy of each other, they wouldn’t be able to tell the different. To them, the drone simply change its position like any other drone, while the other drone is making its way back to the dead-drop point so HaLOS can obtain what it managed to scavenge. In the meantime, the replacement drone will continue to drawn their attention in order to shy them away from looking at the leaving drone.

The woman with the handgun struggled, but she wasn't able to move her weapon far enough to immediately threaten Blue Jay. Instead, she looked him in the eye, suddenly fearful, and shrieked. "Don't you dare hurt anybody else, you filth! I've seen the truth-"
She cut off as Blue Jay suddenly teleported away, firing a single shot after him in vain. Without the element of surprise, a single pistol would be all but useless now, requiring an extremely lucky shot to actually land a hit. Her arm slowly dropped to her side as she lowered her gun, still standing at the edge of the crevice and staring at the scene of the crime.
Others moved to join her.
It made for slow going, with all the portals to go around, but the crowds were advancing from both sides. The first to step forwards did so seemingly of their own accord, and others followed their lead, joining in the movement as humans were wont to do. It would likely be at least a couple of minutes before they really began to get close, but get close they would, gradually pressing towards the scene. More distractions, more delays for the supers to deal with, which only meant more time for the police to get set up on the scene.

Effect: +5 Pandaemonium, Unaligned Prestige Effect: Only Fleet receives +100 Notoriety2. Make a show of driving off the villains in order to benefit public perception of supers. This is textbook good PR. Effect: +5 Bulwark, Rein, Pandaemonium, Unaligned Prestige3. Take most of the jewelry, selling it and giving the proceeds to a worthy cause. That much money could do a lot for the city's infrastructure or defenses. Effect: Only Blue Jay and Geata recieve +50 Notoriety Effect: +7 Rein Initiative Prestige Effect: +25% bonus combat advantage per phase of the next event battle4. Stick around long enough to make nice with the local civilians. The owners of the jewelry store would certainly owe you a favor. Geata felt the blood drain from his face as he watched Blue Jay go still. The attack coming at him didn't even register - one of the benefits of portals everywhere was that they redirected attacks from every direction; the blast from Bonehead was shot harmlessly into the sky - he was too concerned with fact that he might have just killed Jay. The former Bulwark would just heal from it, a small part of Geata's mind said, but the rest of him was adamant that he had just screwed up in a major way and needed to make amends. But there was still the matter of the theft.
"Well, fuck," he muttered under his breath as he looked around. What a mess everything had turned into. Everything was in ruins, random other hero guy seemed to have been hit quite a lot, unpowereds seemed to have become excessively suicidal; all over a simple, unsuccessful jewel heist. Sad thing was, if there wasn't a super permanently stationed at the wreckage, the store was an easy target for theft, and it was very apparent to what lengths supers would go to satisfy their greed.
And then Geata was struck with an idea. What better way to prevent a robbery than to do away with the targets of theft? If he were to take the jewels now and return them later, people wouldn't have reason to try and destroy everything in order to get the shiny necklace on display. He nodded to himself as he grabbed Jay - who thankfully seemed to be breathing so far - through a portal, damsel-in-distress-like, then dropped the jewelry through portals before following suit himself. He wouldn't stop moving until they were at the boarding house.
-----
It wasn't until a few hours later that Geata realized just how terrible his idea was. He had just stolen the jewelry, and if he were to return it, it was liable to just be stolen by somebody else, making the entire thing moot. He resigned himself to the decision, though. Between Azoth, Aurora, and the various other female supers he knew, he was sure that there was something that could be done with it. If not, he could always try and bribe the next dragon with new treasures for its horde. He doubted it would work, but the mythology that dragons loved treasure had to come from somewhere.
Taking option #5!

Just as it was predicted, the supers who arrived to stop the burglary managed to protect the most of the jewelry in the store. Calling back the replacement drone, HaLOS started to make its way to the dead-drop point where the other drone is currently hiding. Even though it didn’t have most of the material from the heist, the drone managed to get away with a tiny portion of the loot in it.
Soon a small vehicle arrived at the dead-drop point about ten blocks away from the store’s location. Who know what the other supers are doing right now, but it doesn’t really matter: the back of the vehicle opened up for the two drones to enter inside. Once the extraction was complete, the vehicle drove its way back to the Sanctum.
“Amount of material gathered: small, but enough. Downloading the data recorded from the fight into memory drive.”
As the downloading process is being made, HaLOS begin to sketch out a blue-print of the new parts, calculating in the small amount of material it only managed to gather. However, from the earlier extraction during the rescue mission a while back, it’s more than enough to begin the upgrading process.

Blue Jay was perfectly happy to accept a ride home, courtesy of Geata. Though it meant faking sleeping the entire way, it was worth all of it. For one, if that had been just about anyone else, that would’ve been a fatal drop, but also because he’d stuck around to try and help a friend, even if it meant risking causing more trouble and bad PR (not that his could get much worse), and he’d been paid in ironic portals. Of course he was going to tease Geata back a bit.
He’d considered playing it further, give his last words or something like that (because going out on “man that kills people” would be sad), but, he didn’t want to let it drag on too long. Nor did he want to freak out anyone else in the house. He waited as long as it took to get back to the boarding house, and then cleared his throat.
“You, uh, didn’t forget my sword, did you?” He asked about as casually as if they were chatting in the hallway. For the sake of the act - and because he figured if he needed it he could just grab it again - he’d actually dropped it and left it on the pipe beside him. He hadn’t picked it up again either, being committed to the being dead bit and all. If Geata hadn’t thought to get it, it was likely still just sitting there, in the hole it created probably just because it could. No real problem, it’d teleport back sooner or later.

Regardless of the assistance he received from the civilians and the robot, it seemed that Mask bit off more than he can chew this time. A job never got this difficult, and to make matters worse, the kids had stolen from him! At least they did some damage, but Mask had a feeling he'd be dealing with more supers like them. Mask himself didn't seem any worse for wear, but tonight has shown to him that he was getting too complacent with his powers. He made his way out of the wreckage, and the telltale sirens wailing getting louder meant it was time for him to make his escape... Albeit emptyhanded.
'Getting sloppy... Gotta stay on my toes.'
