There was nothing quite like a clear spring day to bring a smile to everyone's face and lift their spirits. The campus seemed to be buzzing with energy as people passed by talking and chattering about their days. Alex for his part was waiting for his next class to start and had thus taken up residence in the main yard facing one of the scattered about trees. With book in his left had he knelt before the tree, head lowered and eyes closed.
"With love's light wings did I o'er-perch these walls; for stony limits cannot hold love out. And what love can do that dares love attempt; therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me."

“Urgha…” Edgar let out a long stretch in order to relax his muscle from sitting in class. With final exam approaching, the teacher in class spent most of the time in the classroom to review the context everyone had learned so far. Usually he wouldn’t mind spending his time in class, but the endless review started to become boring over time, and Edgar was glad the class was over. Looking at the campus outside, since it was such a nice day today, Edgar decided to have his lunch outside this time and enjoy the sun.
Once he bought his lunch, consisted of a tuna sandwich, a bagel, and a bottle of soda, he walked out the university yard to find a good spot to sit and enjoy his lunch. As he walked pass a tree, he notice a fellow student of the university was sitting there, reading a book and quoting one of the line:
“Ah, is that a line from Romeo and Juliet?” he asked the student.

"Mmm?"
He looked back behind him at the other student that had asked if it was from Romeo and Juliet. He looked to be about his age, another student then he concluded. Smiling brightly at the young man he'd nod.
"You have a good ear. Are you a Shakespeare fan?"
He'd ask as he slowly stood up, turning to face his new friend and give him his full attention.

"Well..." Edgar said, making a short of a shrug at him "I wouldn't consider myself as his fan, but I do find his work to be a very interesting read. I'm a Literary Art major, so I did learned about his works in my class."
Edgar looked around the area to find a good place to set his lunch down.
"What about you? Are you a Theater Art major or English Major?"

"Oh, I see. I'm undecided on a major at the moment I guess." He admitted with a small laugh as he rubbed the back of his neck. "But I have always been drawn to theater and the great works that have been written for the stage. Shakespeare is but one of many great artists that have helped shape the art of theater."
He'd take the continued conversation as invitation to join him for his lunch and squat down beside him under the shade of the tree, still nothing but smiles.
"A Lit major though? You must be quite well read. Are you planing to become a teacher or do you hope to work in publishing?"

Edgar took a bite out of his tuna sandwich as the guy join him in his lunch. He seems like a friendly fellow enough for a small chat. He would admitted, eating lunch with company feel rather nice to have once in a while.
"I'm actually working as a free-lance journalist," he replied, pointed at the camera he had around his neck, "so yes, I was planning to work for an actual news station eventually. Taking a Lit major seems to make sense for the work."
He put his sandwich down and wipe his hand with the napkin before he reached them out for a hand-shake:
"My name is Edward Pointdexter, Edgar for short."

"Oh wow. That's actually pretty cool! So you work for the paper? Do you write articles or are you a photographer for now?"
Perhaps he did both? Either way it was pretty impressive. Especially since Alex himself just worked in a coffee shop. Nothing as glamorous as being a member of the press. Freelance or otherwise.
"Nice to meet you Edgar. I'm Alex Spencer and it's a pleasure."
He'd extend his hand for a shake without hesitation with a firm and impressive grip with surprisingly calloused hands for a theater major. Or something of that sort at least.

Edgar shook his hand and smiled: "The pleasure is all mine, Alex."
Once they finish greatting each other, he returned back to his sandwich in hand:
"It's not always that cool though," he said to Alex, "I mean, I took on any type of news to write about, but sometime those editors can be very pushy about getting the story done by the end of the week. Not to mention sometime I got myself in a few close-call, and hanging around places with a camera would induce some rather...embarrassing misunderstanding."
He could still remember the situation he found himself in with the Gardner High, and his own personal reason, that brought him trouble with the guard.
"That's being said, doing work at home does have it merit. Getting lots of free time to continue my school work and...well, my favorite hobby of taking cool random pictures. But enough about me, tell me Alex, what do you do?"

"But you are doing real good work. Right? You get to report on the truth. And I think every job has some kind of time crunch. Right? I mean I can't exactly take an hour to get a coffee order right or I'd be out of a job!"
He'd say with a small chuckle as he leaned back and pressed his back against the tree behind him. Nodding along as he explained that despite everything he liked working from home for the freedom it gave him. Something that he could understand. It was important to follow your passions or else your existence was hollow and pointless.
"Nothing special. I work in a coffee shop. I'm afraid I don't do anything nearly as interesting as you seem to. But hey, I can make a mean latte so there is that, right?"

He chuckled at the comment, making sure not to choke on his sandwich while doing so:
"Well, if I ever go to that coffee shop, I'll be the judge of that. Beside, you don't need to be a journalist to be interesting. I mean, you enjoy working at the coffee house, right? Then by itself it shouldn't be dull."
He take a sip of water to wash down his lunch before continuing:
"All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts. We all have our part to play in life, so we must walk down our path if we were to help the world for the better."
He took another sip when two students, a boy and a girl, walked toward the building with their hand held together, caught his attention. The two of them talked to each other; Edgar couldn't hear what the conversation is about, but the girl let out a warming smile at her boyfriend. Seeing the two of them so happy, some how, changed his mood slightly toward the sad end of the joy-spectrum. Edgar then stare off into the distance, contemplating about the past; his facial expression could be interpret as being mournful about something.

"It looks like I am not the only one with a flair for the dramatic. Have you ever thought about trying out for some of our productions?"
They could always use more fresh blood after all. New people with new ways of expressing themselves helped drive everyone to new heights.
"You can think about it over coffee." He offered as a young couple passed by and Edgar's mood shifted to one tinted with sorrow.
"Or we can talk about what's on your mind. I am all ears man."

"Huh?" Edgar finally snapped out of his conundrum and turned toward Alex, "Oh, I'm sorry; my head was staring out to space again. Don't pay me no mind, I was just thinking about random, boring stuff anyway."
He chuckled slightly, trying his best not to dampen the mood from earlier. He also tried to dodge the subject of the question; after all, he just met this guy for a short minute, he doesn't want to share his personal thing with him already. Beside, he doesn't want to spoil the mood with his story.
"I'm afraid I haven't thought about trying out for any production. I'm no actor, and I tend to get nervous in from of a large crowd anyway. I'll forget my line no matter how hard I study them, so I won't be of any use in the theater.
I am, however, don't mind to try out some coffee. Hell, I'll take you on that offer once either of our class is finished. What do you think?"

Well if he didn't want to talk about what was bugging him, then Alex wasn't going to press the issue. The last thing he wanted was to come off as pushy or nosey, especially as a first impression. So he'd just not and allow Edgar to deflect the inquiry away. It wasn't really his business anyways.
"Well there are all kinds of backstage opportunities too. Stage hands, sound and lighting techs, set builders."
He shrugged lightly before running his right hand through his golden locks again.
"I just thought it might be fun for you to help create something like that in some way. But it isn't everyone's cup of coffee, so no worries."
He grinned.
"But hey, I'll even treat you to the coffee. Sound good?"

Edgar considered Alex’s word about helping out at the backstage: he spent some of his time writing what he got in his head anyhow, so perhaps he can channel his creativity thought to something more than just news stories. After all, writing within the boundary and limitation of realism is what make a news story more than just mere gossip, but sometime his head would went wild with all kind of crazy ideas that he just couldn’t help but try it out. He had tried to write his own fictional short stories and submitted them to a few editors before; so far they all have met with a resounding "meh".
It's rather too bad, most well-known writers today only focus on making the money rather than writing for the sake of enjoyment. He had always admire some old-school writers' works that is much more enjoyable to read than these young-adult novel like Twilight and Hunger Game. Thinking about how unoriginal most of those plot is enough to make him cringe.
Going back to Alex's enthusiastically talked about some of the theater's position, it is nice to find someone who can be so passionate about their work. The theater's glamorous spotlight isn't his cup of tea, but at the very least Edgar does consider the idea of being a play-writer, or someone working behind the scene.
“Hah, I see what you did there,” he chuckled at Alex’s effort to make a pun, “Coffee does sounds nice, and I am curious about your self-proclaim best latte there.
Once he finished his lunch, he stood up and threw away the garbage before turning his attention to the guy:
“I do have class to attend to soon, and I have a feeling you might to. What’s the name of the coffee shop you work at? Maybe I’ll pass by later today once school’s out.”

"Yeah, I got like 20 minutes until my next class. But if you need to get going don't worry about me." He offered with a smile, leaning back against the tree and setting the book down to the side of him. He glanced back at Edgar when he asked about the name of his coffee shop. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips, he had heard a lot of people say that they loved the name. Or at least thought it was funny in a cheesy kind of way. But Alex just thought that they had good coffee, and it helped him scrape by, so that was all he really needed from a job.
"Better Latte then never." He said as he brought a hand up to cover his mouth and stifle a small chuckle. He didn't know if it was Edgar's type of humor, but it was always fun to see if people reacted when he told them. But a lot of time he thought people's reactions were interesting in general. Maybe that was why he took to acting, to get a chance to express all of those emotions and reactions.
