"Oh God, I'm sorry. That was incredibly rude of me to forget my manners."
He seemed a little embarrassed that he didn't think to introduce himself before this moment.
"I'm Alex. What about you?"
Normally he'd offer a hand but since they were running he didn't want to risk there being any fumbling and tripping. Plus it would be more than a little awkward to shake hands while jogging. And he didn't really want to stop before they got to the end of the trail. At least not if they were just stopping to shake hands and then resume jogging. That seemed more silly than forgetting to introduce himself in the first place!

"That's okay. We were having fun." She waves a hand in dismissal at his apology. "Besides, I could've said something sooner." With that taken care of, he has her attention, expression brightening as he introduces himself.
"Nice to meet you, Alex. I'm Kasey." She grins and nods towards the trail as they continue their jogging, her grin turning cheeky for a moment as she picks up the pace, albeit slightly. Two can play at that game, and they were enjoying themselves, so why not?

He laughed to finish dispelling away any tension that may have threatened to linger as she picked up the pace this time. He had no problem matching her, though he did have to resist the temptation to bolt ahead of her for now. Though they were getting near the end of the trail so it might be a good time to make their little encounter a little more fun. Since as she pointed out they were having a good time already.
"Care to race to the end of the trail Kasey?"
He'd offer. Something simple, but a little competition never hurt anyone, right?

She relaxes more at his laugh, almost hopping at the suggestion as she giggles again. It looked like great minds could indeed think alike. Her smile sharpens into a toothy grin, the competitive and playful demeanor still present in her posture as she prepares.
"You took the words right out of my mouth, Alex."

He'd slow down when she agreed until he reached a complete start. If she also stopped with him he'd wait until they were standing next to each other before he rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. Glancing over to her with a friendly smile.
"Ready when you are! Just say the word." He'd say shooting her a small peace sign, no matter the result of the race he didn't want there to be hard feelings involved. And he didn't know if she was a sore loser, hopefully she could handle defeat in grace.

The two slow down to a stop, allowing Kasey the chance to stretch as she prepares. There's a faint voice in the back of her mind, a memory of her mother warning her as a child to rest after eating or suffer a stomach ache, but it's quickly swept away as she focuses on the present. It would be worth it to see if she could beat him, not to mention he'd slowed down for her. This was one way to make it up to him, surely.
"Alright. Ready, steady...go!" She lets them have a fair start together, taking off at the declaration.

And he wouldn't start running until she exclaimed go! He had no desire to cheat in a silly little race. Such a thing was beneath him. For the time being he was content to run along with her, just barely ahead of her to keep it interesting and close. Let her have a taste of the possibility for victory, and to see if she had anything in her that could surprise him. That idea thrilled him almost as much as the thrill of victory.
There was always a certain sweetness when someone surprised you and you still manage to rise above it. To see years of hard work and dedication pay off against natural talent and those with less dedication. Especially those that squander their gifts and let them wither away.

The taunting was the perfect bait, pushing her to go faster and try to surpass him, keeping her pace so she wouldn't burn out when they had just started. She liked seeing just what he could do when he wasn't waiting on her or trying to talk.
But there's no talking now, just the rhythm of their feet against the pavement, the sounds of their breathing and birdong; the smell of summer. Maybe, just maybe, she might even be anticipating a victory.
Towards the halfway mark of their race, she lets loose, pushing herself to go significantly faster and the end stretches ever closer.

There were no words indeed. Just focus as he took in his surroundings, the sound of her feet hitting the pavement behind him. The rhythm of his breathing and the pace he had been keeping with. When they reached the halfway point of the race he heard her steps pick up. There it was, the push. Hoping to push ahead of him with a final sprint. He'd let her pull ahead of him for a good portion of the second half of the race.
However, when they reached the final stretch his speed would pick up. Long even strides with calm steady breathing he would speed up looking to pull ahead of her. Not so far to ruin the race or reveal anything about himself. But enough that he should be able to finish a step or two ahead of her. Painting the picture of a hard fought and close race.

Elation filled her, grin still present as she pushed herself to continue at her pace, determined to make it to that finish line with Alex behind her. For a while, it seemed that would be the case, but then the sound of footsteps reached her, closer and closer until they matched and eventually passed her. Pushing herself even harder, Alex manages to maintain the lead as they reach of the end of the trail, Kasey slowing to a stop as she crosses it before turning to face him.
"That was great!" Her eyes are shining as she returns the peace sign he'd given her before they started. She hops up on one of the poles indicating the end of the trail, leaning forward slightly with her forearms resing against her thighs.
"You're pretty good."

He'd slow down when the race was over and she took up residence on one of the poles that marked the end of the trail. Light laughter bubbled forth as he let out a deep exhale and ran another hand through his hair as he spun to face her with a grin. He didn't seem terribly winded, but the trail also wasn't crazy long or anything, she seemed to be doing alright herself. Part of him had to wonder if she really gave it her all there in the end or not.
"Thank you. You're not bad yourself. We can chalk it up to me having longer legs."
He said patting his leg, his grin still as bright as ever.

Kasey is oblivious to his thought and his doubt, noting that he didn't seem that winded. Then again, he had mentioned this being routine, so she assumes it's that and nothing else. She makes a face at the mention of his legs and gives a dramatic, forlorn sigh as she looks at them.
"I think I'm jealous." Then she laughs again and looks up at him. "Joys of being small, but I can still keep up."

"Hey, you're not small." He said with a small chuckle, reaching out to place a hand on her shoulder. "Let's just say you are fun sized. Fun sized and speedy." He'd nod, both to himself and for her as he withdrew his hand from her and placed both of his hands on his hips as he looked down at her. "We can't change the hands we get dealt but we can make them work for us. Right?"

"That's right." She nods, pleased with his response. There's a moment of wondering if he might be pokign fun at it, but as it's something that's been said by and to her before, the moment doesn't last. His observation of her speed is just as appealing. She presses her palms against the fabric of her shorts and tucks her feet up under her so that the soles of her shoes are pressing up against the pole.
"I always make it work." She grins again. "Besides, it gives me extra room for other things."

"Oh yeah?" He quirked an eyebrow at her when she mentioned other things. "What other things do you mean Kasey?"
She knew that he did acting, it was only fair that she get a chance to talk about herself and her talents and hobbies as well. Alex wasn't so boorish as to only care about talking about his passions. That hardly made for a good conversational partner. Certainly not a good friend, and he tried to be good at both, or either. Depending on what the other person needed at the time.
