Summer was under way, the bright sunlight and humidity an oppressive welcome to anyone who stepped outside. But step outside Kasey did. She had several projects to work on and research to do, which lead her to head to the campus library. While she couldn't check anything out without being enrolled, she was free to look and request materials, and that was all she needed. The ginger-haired creator had a notebook spread out along with a few books on the table, sketching ideas and writing out a quick shorthand in her small scrawling cursive.
There were lots of plans to make.
Closing the notebooks, she puts back the book she'd found on avian biology, a thoughtful expression on her face as she notices people around her enough not to walk into them, but not who those people might actually be.

Summer school may not be mandatory for most, but for Pre-med it most certainly was. Greyson is also in the library, handful of various medical textbooks each the size of a dictionary.
He's also paying about the same amount of attention Kasey is, though when she sidesteps to avoid him, he manages to look up and catch sight of her and her reading materials.
"Birds, huh?"

The voice nearly makes Kasey jump, though her hold on the book remains the same. Recognizing the speaker, she offers Greyson a sheepish smile and quiet laugh.
"Yeah, my mom's a fan and her birthday's coming up soon. I was trying to get some ideas for what to make her." Not untrue, but not the whole truth, either. Her gaze goes to the books he has with him, brows raising as she blinks before looking back to him.
"No rest for the weary, huh?"

"You're, uh, going to make her a bird?" He arches an eyebrow and shakes his head, sighing as he adjusts his grips on the books in his hand.
"To stay in the program here you have to remain at a certain percentile above the others. It's all curve and and competition based."

"A statue of one, if I can." She nods, realizing it sounds silly when her explanation is so vague. It's easier to focus on what he's talking about.
"And how far ahead above the others are you?" He didn't seem to be actively struggling, the words were factual rather than disgusted, so she assumed he was at least decent.

He smiles smugly with a slight turn of his head.
"What makes you think I'm ahead?"

"Well you're certainly not behind." She holds the book in one arm while pointing at his books with a finger from her free hand.
"You don't seem distressed by the fact that you're in a competitive field with a curve, so you're probably well off enough that it's not something that you're close to losing." She tilts her head up at him with a thoughtful hum. "You're also incredibly calm and are treating it as a fact, so it's something you're used to. You're not chasing away potential distractions, either." Her lips quirk in a momentary grin.
"And then there's that smile of yours."

"Hm." He hums a stifled chuckle as he spins 90 degrees, pulling out a chair at the nearby empty table.
"How very observant. But I guess I should expect that from an avid bird watcher." He nods back at her books.
"I'm in the top ten percentile, but it's very competitive. One missed answer and you can drop ten, fifteen points right away. I'm usually not satisfied unless I'm at the top."

"I try." She considers taking the books back and continuing their conversation, but if he's talking to her now then it'd be better not to disrupt his studies further later on. Her books are set to the side with the notebook on top, letting Greyson have more space since he's carrying a small mountain of texts.
"With a risk like that, I can't say I blame you."

"In my opinion the more you stress the worse it affects your performance."
He gestures to the seat.

"True. Your focus falters if you do." She nods and takes a seat, recalling some of her own moments when she gave into stress or worry. Not that she was free of it, but there were some times when you had to set it aside and work through it.
"I imagine there are plenty who are jealous of you for being able to do so."

"Well I think the physical activity is really key. Don't you?"

"Hmmm." She rests her hand on her chin as she studies him, believing she knows where this conversation will go, though her elbow doesn't touch the table.
"Sound mind and sound body? Sure."

Grey places his elbow on the table, resting his chin on his fist.
"So how do you find the balance?"

"I think everyone finds it in their own way." The answer is straightforward and honest, gaze unblinking as she takes a smoment to consider her answer.
"For me, it's a sense of awareness. I burn the energy and give my midn a break so the words don't blur together, but my workouts require focus, too. It's familiar, but if I get too lazy or overconfident, it could end badly. The same could apply to studies or other things. So there's trial and error, especially when figuring out what you need and where your own balance is, to not let one side consume you while the other is left behind."
