Impromptu shopping was the best shopping, at least in Kasey's mind. You could have a goal or two in mind, but you were letting yourself go with the winds of chance and whatever caught your eye in the displays. The hustle and bustle of people as the nine-to-five-ers left for the day, the young teens who hung out or skulked in groups, the smell of food that you knew was terrible for you but was so good (or at least available), shouts and laughs and everything else combined into an atmosphere all of its own, and she loved it.
Walking along one of he main halls, Kasey takes a moment to stop by a craft store, mentally calculating how much money she has as she contemplates going inside.

Kasey would find a familiar face in the craft store as Alex pursued what looked to be various types of leather of various hardness and coloration. His back was to her so he didn't immediately greet her as instead he picked up one of the larger patches of leather and started to squeeze it like he was testing how much give it had to it. Or it's hardness.

With one of her goals awaiting her inside the store, seeing Alex just made the trip that much more worthwhile. Her expression brightens as Kasey slips inside, intending to sneak up on him since his back was to her.
"Boo."

Alex quickly dropped the leather that he was holding in his hands as he heard a familiar voice in the shop. He'd spin around to face Kasey with his well practiced smile radiating warmth as he raised a hand in greeting. He hadn't really been expecting to run into anyone that he knew here. That was a little troublesome, but he'd wing it.
"Hey Kasey. Fancy meeting you here. What's up?"
Chipper, upbeat, and enthused to see someone that he got along with. He was confident that Kasey wouldn't dig deeper than that, she hadn't yet at least. And he didn't think he had given her reason to even try, so he should be fine here.

"Hey Alex." She greets him in an enthusiastic sing-song tone, happy to see that she was right all along about who was inside the shop. It would have been embarrassing if she'd been wrong, though she'd also have been curious who was in Emerald City that looked so much like him.
"Not much. Just looking for a few things for a couple of projects. This was the easier stop." And the more expensive. Also, it's not exactly trespassing if it's business hours in the main store section.
"What about you?" She looks over at what he'd dropped, a length of leathre in an entire section of said material.

"Oh just costume stuff. You know how it is."
He'd wave his hand dismissively. He was involved in theater so it probably didn't sound too weird when he put it that way. He'd just let her brain put it all together in the most obvious way. He decided that he was going to see how long he could go without lying. That should make the encounter a bit more interesting.
"One of your science projects then?"

Post by Londyn Avery on a few seconds ago "I do," she agrees with a nod. It made sense, since Kasey assumed it did indeed have to do with his time spent at the theater. Depending on how things went or how frequently they were used, he probably had to replace them often, much like some of her creations did. Speaking of which, he was asking about them. She gave a small nod in response.
"That and a birthday present. I need to find a base while I'm here and some materials." She looks at some of the leather still on the shelf, testing it with a steady grip that was surprisingly gentle, as well.
"Not bad, but I don't know what you need. Guess it depends on how much you guys want it to resist what you're doing."

"Well, sometimes it can be rough, so durable is good. But it isn't exactly useful if it is too stiff. Not to mention it is a pain to work with it if was. Not like I'm making leather armor for a Renaissance Fair or something."
Just gloves. But the gloves needed to be able to take some punishment, especially considering the kind of hobbies he indulged in. Or who his partners tended to be. He had to wonder how many of the Supers that ran around the city also frequented this shop though. It was a funny idea to imagine him and that Giant shopping at the same place without knowing it.
"Oh yeah? Is it your birthday? Well, I guess not if you are making the gift. Huh."

"True, and good to know." She chuckles and nods to the bin he'd dropped the leather in, picking up the piece he'd been sampling. She gives it a similar test.
"It's good for something smaller. You don't want to be fighting it all the time." She stopped with a laugh. "But you probably alrady know that." Yay blabbering. She lets the subject change with another small nod.
"Yep! My mom's birthday is next month, but I need time to get everything and piece it together."

He nodded in agreement, leaving what he was actually making a mystery since she wasn't pressing it, and instead he'd latch on to the second subject. About her Mom's birthday being next month.
"Oh yeah? What are you going to make her? One of your gadgets? Or do you make clothes too? Or jewelry?"

"Well, I do all three of those things." Kasey can feel the slight heat of embarrassment creeping along her face as she shakes her head, hoping to clear it away. When you had next to no money, you got resourceful, and not just in the gadget department. But she didn't want to divulge that with Alex - or anyone, really.
"Buuuut I'm actually making a statue for her. She's really into birds, so I was hoping to get some metal pieces and some other things for decoration."

"Oh wow. That's pretty awesome. You really are talented. Engineering and sculpting or general metalworking. You are a lady of many talents."
He'd give her a playful nudge with his elbow and an encouraging smile.
"You should totally show me a picture when you get it finished. I'd love to see some of your finished products. It sounds like you have a lot of interesting stuff that you tinker around with. It would be pretty cool to check out."
Maybe.

The flattery was enough to deepen her blush. Laughing, Kasey waved him off and shook her head.
"Nah, I'm just good with my hands." She stopped, realizing what she'd said, and another laugh stuttered out in disbelief. "But apparently not my words." She runs a hand through her hair, amazed at how she managed to fluster herself almost as much as Alex had.
"Anyway, I'm better at the metalworking aspects of it." She gives him a bright smile. "It keeps me busy. Sometimes I sell them." Like when the phone's about to be shut off. "I can definitely show you a picture when I finish."

he pretended to not notice the burning beacon that was her face as she shoved her foot right into her mouth. There was a brief moment of internal debate on if he wanted to poke it and stir the pot, see what fell out. He decided he may as well, it would be a nice and fun distraction at least.
"Good with your hands and your mind. I gotta wonder what else you are skilled at." He said nudging her gently with his elbow again as he moved in closer, sliding an arm around her shoulders. "You still need to show me some of your goods in person. Right?"

Blatant flattery at its finest. Kasey tries to roll with it and lead the conversation away towards something else, appreciating the words but also not used to just up-and-out stuff like that. Usually it was for something useful or just out-and-out being hit on. Focusing on her inventions was something new. That, or maybe it was just that this wasn't a side of Alex she was used to seeing on display for her.
"Well naturally. You can't just throw things together at random and hope for the best without putting in some work." Ah, almost free. Almost. Aware of the weight of his arm around her shoulder, she looked up at him with a raised brow and a grin.
"Of course. The real thing's always better in person than just a photo." Oh, she's burning all kinds of red to the point that Crayola wants a patent or three, but she's rolling with it.
