"Agreed! And I mean you talk up a good game about your skills. So I want to see it in action. It's only fair since anyone can just walk in and watch me for the price of a ticket."
Should she ever choose to check in on his acting chops. Or perhaps she'd catch him on campus practicing, or the park. There were plenty of opportunities to see him hard at work with his craft. Really, he made sure of it. He was however, all smiles at this point. Positively beaming at her like nothing was wrong.

"So are you asking for a full show, or the end result?" She outright laughs and shakes her head. If you're going down with your ship, you might as well go all the way. But there is a turn of conversation that she latches on to, eyes lighting up at the mention of his acting as she nods.
"You know I'm going to be there at your next performance, right?" She'd wanted to make it to the Romeo and Juliet he'd mentioned, but that hadn't worked out as she'd planned. Still, there was always next time, and Kasey was determined.

"You offering to let me in for the full show?" His arm uncoiled from around her shoulder before sliding though his mop of blonde hair with a devilish grin dancing across his lips. "I'm down to take whatever I can get. I think it would be interesting to see do your thing."
That part was honest. There was always something about watching someone work at their craft, their art, their passion that was enjoyable. It was something that he could honestly relate to and understand. The thrill of success, the drive to overcome failure and shortcomings. The sheer dedication and hours spent as you mastered your craft and overcame everything that tried to hold you back.
"You're more than welcome to come. We have a show next Saturday at the Jewel Box Theater."
He took the change of subject and the spotlight with grace. He wasn't shy, he'd gotten over that a long time ago.

"Depending on the project, sure." There were some things Kasey didn't want others to be around, especially if something went wrong. Trying to explain how she got a hold of some of her supplies was bad enough, but taking someone to a hospital for the effects would be even worse. Her expression turns thoughtful as she tries to think of what she could show him that would be safe, for both of them.
"I'll be there," she promises with a nod. Didn't matter the time, one way or another, she would. She enjoyed supporting her friends.

"Perfect!"
He didn't press her further on checking out her passion projects. She'd invite him when she was ready, or not. He wouldn't lose sleep over it either way. But he was interested, if just to see what kind of things she chose to use her skill and talent on.
"I'll look for you in the crowd then." He'd say shooting her a quick wink before he turned back to his leather bin that he was rummaging though. "So were you going to need leather for your project too? Or just scrap metal?"

"Well, the one just needs metal, but leather would work for something else." She nods to the bin and picks up the first scrap she'd sampled, the one Alex hadn't had his eye on. It was a bit too thin for what she had in mind, but it was a starting point. Now that they were focusing more on the materials and physical aspects of her work more, Kasey was more at ease about talking shop.
"Some I just need small pieces for - replacing loops and such. Otherwise, I need something durable, but not super thick. It's a limited space."

"Oh yeah? What is your leather project?"
He'd prod on this one a bit, since the only one she'd really gone and told him about was the smoke bombs that she made. And now the gift for her Mother. So she was good with chemistry and metal working, and maybe also leather working. He imagined that if she was blending all of those trades together she must be making something pretty cool at least.

"Mostly patching stuff up, repairs, things like that." She shakes her head with a wry smile. "Metal's more my thing, but I'm learning. So there's scrap for practice, too." Which was easier to find here than where she'd have to go for scrap metal. For a moment, Kasey has to lock down on the wish for just a little room with secrecy.
The smile turns an apologetic smile to him, instead. "Sorry, some of it I have down solid, but there's also the fact that I may not have all the materials I want or need. So, sometimes I have to improvise."

"Improvisation is the key to innovation." He'd say with an affirming nod. "I think most breakthroughs come through improvisation. Because without it we'd have no need to grow. Scarcity breeds creativity and all of that."
The same was true for most aspects of life. People shined brightest when overcoming hardship and challenges. Whether the venture was creative or something else entirely. Being forced to work with the hand you were dealt forced you to come up with new solutions rather than relying on the same old tried and tested measures.

"Exactly!" Her eyes light up at his explanation, overjoyed. She samples another piece of leather with a nod, choosing it instead before looking around to orient herself to the shop's layout. She'd need to find wood pieces next, which was easy enough to find. After a couple of seconds, she turns back to Alex.
"That's what got me started working on things like this, actually." Her smile turns wry a she thinks back to when she was younger. Necessity really did bring out the best, or worst, in a person and push them to go past what they knew or were comfortable with.

His smile brightened if it was possible. Letting out a small, almost wistful sigh. "Maybe we are kindred spirits. I learned the value of it at a young age. When you don't have a lot of money growing up you make due with what you have. And you get pretty good at making the best of a bad situation."
He still didn't have a lot of money, but he did have what he needed. And he was content with that. He didn't need a lot of material goods to be happy. He was happy with himself and his life in general. He got to do what he loved, follow his passions and his dreams. That was more than most people could say. If anything, he'd say that despite it all he was quite lucky.
"But you know, I wouldn't trade it for the world. I prefer to be able to improvise rather than just buy my way out of a hard spot."
Or buy friends.

"Maybe we are." She chuckles, focused on the conversation as it continues. Alex's words struck a cord, reflecting parts of her life that she didn't up and tell others. Not at first, at least. Sometimes you were lucky and ran into someone who cared more about a person rather than their money, but most of the time, Kasey found it best to avoid bringing up a potential stigma if at all possible.
"That sounds...familiar." Her expression softens as she lets out a quiet sigh that's almost a whisper. Her eyes, however, remain on Alex instead of finding a distraction around them. "My family didn't have a lot of money growing up. We still don't, but we're better off now and I'm making money on the side. So when things weren't working right or we needed a different option, I started making them." Her lips quirk in something akin to humor as she reflects on his last part.
"That's true; I wouldn't be the person I am now if I didn't have it. I'd probably expect more, or maybe life would be easier, but I'm glad I know what I know and can do what I do."

"Everyone is presented with multiple paths in their lives. Each path offers fortune and misfortune. It is impossible to know the ideal path to walk, all we can do is trust in ourselves to overcome whatever challenges our path presents us. And to remember that while a different path would bypass whatever obstruction challenges us now. It would present it's own unique challenges that the current path would bypass with ease."
He'd shrug.
"Basically, there's no use imagining if things were different, and just focus on the life you have and how to make the most of it." He'd say with a small chuckle. Maybe he was going to deep for her. He didn't want to lose her, or make things weird. But he was feeling in a talking mood, and it was pretty rare that he had someone to talk to like this.

Kasey could say with ease that she did not expect a philosophical conversation, especially at random in the mall, but she listens with a small nod and no interruptions. Alex's explanation of various life paths actually made sense to her in a way. What point was there in wondering, really? It didn't change who she was now and what she did. The depth of it was a bit overwhelming, a point to hold on to in a vast ocean of theory, but it was a point she understood well enough in principal.
"Right." She nods and offers him a warm smile again. "I can wonder about what-if's all I like, but that doesn't change anything." Right?

"Pretty much. They just distract you from what you are doing now. You can always change the path you are one. But you can't do it in the past, and you can't do it later. Only now."
Tomorrow was always a day away and yesterday was long gone. It was always easier to wish that you did things differently or to promise to do better tomorrow. Those that took action today were the ones that got something done and who controlled the flow of their lives.
"But hey, for what it's worth it sounds like you are on a path you are happy with. So that's a good thing!"
He tried to sound excited for her, but he really wasn't. It wasn't that he didn't really care, which he didn't. But rather, that it didn't matter what he thought. When it came to your life the only person you had to answer to in the end was yourself. He just wasn't involved.
