Blue Jay smiled and took Titan’s hand. He always seemed to be there for him, Titan. He’d appreciated it before, but now, after everything had gone to hell and he was still here to help him up, he became aware of just how grateful he was.
“Hey, Titan,” he took in a deep breath. “Thanks. For being my friend, I mean. And for letting me vent to you. This whole everything just ended and it’s already weighing on me, and, I don’t know, it’d be a bad spot if I had to go think this all out by myself. If I didn’t have someone like you to rely on. So,” he looked down at his feet and rubbed the back of his head, “yeah, thanks.”
He felt really awkward, but he was truly grinning, not just because he’d avoided something terrible but because he was genuinely happy for the first time since the dragon attack. He was ready to get this group going; he already knew of someone to ask.
He stretched his arms over his head, feeling the fatigue in them and his legs and his everything else. But, Titan was alive, and he wasn’t dead either. The image that had run through his mind an unwelcome number of times appeared again. His shoulders dropped. There was one last thing he wanted to say. Pushing the image out of his head and a smile back onto his face and into his voice, he turned to Titan.
“I feel bad for it, but can I ask you a really big favor? If you ever meet anyone else who fights with my sword, could you… promise me you’ll try to be friends with them?”

When Titan pulled Blue Jay up, there was some pain. He didn't make a sound, so as not to make his friend worried about his condition. Titan was fine anyway, better than he was an hour ago. All he needed was just some rest. Everybody did, Blue Jay included. Some people didn't have places to rest, however. Those that didn't lose their lives certainly lost their homes. He and Blue Jay needed to come back and help out with the rebuilding effort once they were fully rested. No point trying it on the heels of a physically and mentally exhausting endeavor.
While Titan made plans to help out the people of the city, Blue Jay's words struck him. He had never heard anyone say something like that to him. He didn't have much friends. Neither did Blue Jay it seemed. Still, Titan couldn't help but smile at his friend's words, as awkward as they were. At least they were genuine.
However, things took a serious turn when Blue Jay asked him something else. What did he mean? He couldn't be saying that...he was. Titan had to accept that while he may have been lucky just this once, perhaps they wouldn't be next time. Everyone had come face to face with their own mortality and the risks were never more apparent. Rather than say anything, Titan just nodded. He hoped that the next one, if there was a next one, would live up to his friend's legacy.
