Downtown – Emerald City, 9:40 PM
The city at night was just as bustling as it was in day light, people were roaming around at the hour looking to have a little fun. The lights illuminating the city were like starlights and glowed with whimsical mirth. Clubs that were now opening were booming with people and music. Most shops were closed for the night save for fast food restaurants that were open 24 hrs. Time was very distorted in the environment, everything seemed to be moving at a faster pace then normally perceived in daytime. This pique Avarice, a sin by nature found herself interested in human customs. Not realizing she was only a few days old, she wondered why she never knew of these customs. Why was this her first time experiencing these strange sensations now? It wasn't anything she thought about before, but because everything was so distracting at that moment it was quickly shoved aside.
Avarice looked around the skyscrapers that normally stood solemnly tall now looked like they were bending down to her. Their lights glowed as festive as christmas lights and it invoked her child like wonder. She began roaming around, down a few streets she saw something that caught her eye. There was a jewelry store that had a beautiful pendant on display. It looked like a blue dragon's eye and it was encased in white gold. The city lights gave it an ethereal glow to it. It made Avarice's eyes sparkled with want as well, she wanted the pretty necklace so badly suddenly. She could hear her own mind screaming to her: JUST TAKE IT.
Avarice wasted no time in smashing the glass, she slammed her rather tiny fist into the 3 inch glass and watched it with glee as it all fell away. What she didn't realize was that the silent alarm went off. It alerted police that a robber was in progress. Avarice never realized that what she was doing was stealing. She figured the story would just get another one from the back. So it was okay to take this one. She reached inside the store and picked the sparkling pendant out and coddled it in her hands. The sapphire gem at the center was probably the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen and it was hers. All hers.
Suddenly before Ava could register what was going on she was surrounded by police officers. Who were these men? And what were they pointing at her? Guns, they all held their guns at her. Four police cars were dispatched to the jewelry store and they surrounded the small purple girl with glowing eyes. They knew she wasn't human of any kind, they though she was another super trying to make a name for herself.
"Ma'am we have you surrounded, put the necklace down and put your hands up!"
One of the men yelled to Avarice who frowned, did they want the necklace she just got? Well it was very pretty she didn't blame them but she found it first. Avarice held tightly to the trinket.
"No! It's mine!"
She sounded almost like a child but none took notice to that. The police were nervous, they never seen her before. What were her powers? They weren't sure and they didn't know how to go about this. Many kept their gun fixated to her, their fingers were itching to pull the trigger already. The man held up the megaphone up once again.
"Last warning! Put the necklace down and put your hands up!"
Avarice gritted her teeth, why were they yelling at her like this? She found it first! This was hers, she found it first, it was hers. No one was going to take it from her. She shook her head fiercely. She didn't like these men, they weren't nice and they were trying to take something that was hers now. Avarice decided she didn't want any part of this situation anymore and was gearing up to leave. The officers noticed she was moving, she was going to attack them! All at once the police men squeezed the trigger of their gun and fired at her. The popping sound scared Avarice, she never heard it before. It stopped her in place but she didn't noticed the bullets that were coming her way just yet.
Normally the bullets would've already hit her, she might go down, and she might've died, but there was something about the city at this moment. As she felt it earlier, it was like things were slowing down, she could almost watch the bullets coming at her, but she was frozen in place. What should she do now? She feared that whatever the bullets were, they were going to hurt a lot. Avarice immediately pulled up her hands to to cover her face from the bullets and squeezed her eyes shut, she would be totally unaware if anything else were to happen at this precise moment.
