"If you felt it was one sided why would you stick around?"
Why was this so hard to grasp? He didn't get what the hang up was. Did she want to do it or not? Why was her focus not on what she wanted to do, but rather one what he may possibly feel or think or do? She was so caught up in a bunch of maybe's that she had no control over, it was baffling. If she bored him or he felt like she was toying with him then he'd just leave.
Was that really that hard to do? Sometimes he had to admit that he just really had no idea how people worked sometimes.

The logic cut through the mayhem like a knife, a "Duh Kasey" moment as ALex pointed out the obvious. If it was one sided or going nowhere, she didn't have to stick around, and this was the third time he'd asked her, so clearly there was interest. Getting caught up in wondering over which persona was which, which might be and what might not be? It was only sending her further in circles. Awkward or not, they'd have tried it, and wasn't that all they coudl ask for?
"Alex." Her smile turned sheepish, then brightened to it's usual self as she nodded. "I believe I do owe you a date."

"Perfect!"
For his part he would at least seem to be genuinely pleased and excited as he extended his hand for her to take. Milkshakes is what he had offered, and there was a nice milkshake place just a few blocks down. At least if the girls in the department were to be believed. But considering how often they planned to go their right after school he'd wager it had to be good.
"My treat too."
Not that he had a lot of money, but tips had been okay. But he'd been the one to ask, more than once. That left the burden of paying for it on him. And he wouldn't accept anything other than that. If she wanted to pay her own way, well she'd just have to ask him out on a second date."
"So there is a place a few blocks down if your game."

Kasey hadn't thought he'd mean right away, but now was as good a time as any. They were both there, both friendly ro at least civil, and both knew they would have to be "home" before midnight or risk turning into a pumpkin. She'd seen that a little when they'd first met and gone window shopping, but now his vague answered made sense.
"Sure. Have you been there before?" Bless him for not taking her to the ice cream parlor where she worked (hopefully). Bless him a thousand times over. She started to relax a little, even when he takes her hand, but shook her head at the offer to pay for them both. Asking him to pay for both of them felt odd.
"You don't have to pay for both of us. I can chip in." She knew money wasn't something that came easily for either of them. And yet there was something sweet and even flattering about the fact that he was willing to do so for her.
