Summer was drawing to a close, and with it, the freedom before Kasey counted herself among the students and Emerald U. In a last ditch effort to feel semi normal, she gone to one of the cafes that were scattered throughout town after a morning run. The sidewalks and shops were already more crowded than usual as people tried to orient themselves to the city's layout, bumping and running into each other, literally and figuratively.
She loved it. Sometimes, you needed space, to have peace and quiet. Other times, however, you needed people. To be around their energy, to surround yourself with teh sounds of the city and be reminded of how alive it was. Plus, there were all sorts of interesting people milling around. A burst of bright color, a voice that carried over others or some quirk that would catch your attention and leave you curious.
The collision seemed to be inevitable, even for her. Distracted by someone's high pitched laugh that rang through the cafe as the door opened, Kasey shifted as she started to push her chair back. Not hearing whoever it was behind her, she almost collided with them as she turned.
"Ah, crap! I'm so sorry." She held up her hands to keep herself from making full body contact, hoping she hadn't caused the other person to spill their coffee or anything else.

Minnie slid her purse over her shoulders and headed out of the boarding house. It was a rare day for her. No pressing meeting with her editor, no upcoming deadlines and no real need to do her "other job" for some quick cash. Not even any meetings with Grant or Kasty. For once she had a day entirely to herself, 100% hers. With a contented sigh she set out. It was a cool morning, perfect for a run or a jog if one preferred those activities. This laid back pinkette had other plans in mind. Leisurely, she made her way into the downtown area. Kind of a long walk but she wasn't a huge fan of riding buses so it was worth it.
She had become accustomed to making her way through Emerald City's convoluted streets at all times of the day. It was a perfect opportunity to do her favorite part of her job, people watching. The way they walked, quirks they had when they spoke or even the occasionally outlandish way they dressed. Everything was a new chance for some character to be born. Which is why, she looked up as she paused in her stroll, she was going here. A little cafe, her favorite one. It was slightly farther away from the main cafes and shops but nonetheless it was always filled to the brim with people. Stepping in she waved slightly at the barista before heading to a table in the back. She'd get a drink later, for now it was time to enjoy watching the city pass by.
About ten minutes later she decided to go get that drink and left her jacket at the table. Weaving through the tables she made it without incident to the cashier. Unfortunately on the way back she was not so lucky. She could see the collision coming and was about to life her drink out of the way in time to stop either of them from getting spilled on. Minnie smiled at the shaggy haired girl as she apologized. The pinkette just waved it off as she brought her drink back down.
"Hey, no harm no foul. No one got hurt and not a drop of anything was spilt. Sorry for not being a little louder as I passed by. I have a habit of slinking around. My name's Minnie, what's yours?"
The question was simple but it had the potential to whittle hours away learning about this new person. To be honest that sounded like an excellent way to spend the day.

The woman moved with protective grace, aware of the way she held her cup so it wouldn't spill a drop. For that, Kasey was thankful. She immediately took a step back, avoiding the chair with the motion so that Minnie could either walk past her or, as it turned out, grab a nearby chair since she seemed okay with having a chat.
"Good." She offered the pink-haired young woman a smile of relief that seemed to warm up the room around her. "Nice to meet you, Minnie. My name's Kasey." She started to hold out a hand to shake out of habit, then decided against it since Minnie seemed to have hers occupied.
"Nice save with the coffee, by the way."

"The pleasure is all mine Kasey."
Minnie responded cheerfully. The green eyed woman mentally took notes about the other's clothes and posture. Everything could be used for future characterization, from how the light played with her eyes to the cadence of her sentences. Little details that made a character, or person, jump off a page. All harmonizing before her, bringing Kasey and her warmth to the forefront of reality.
"Thanks, I've bumped into enough people to learn that trick. I'm such a klutz."
She chuckled and smiled once more. Kasey seemed like a sweet person, the perfect type for days like this. They always had the most endearing qualities.... Not to mention the best secrets. She settled into her seat and took a sip of coffee.
"So what brings you to this part of town Kasey?"

"Practice makes perfect, huh?" Hopefully before there was lot of hot coffee spilled. She chuckled as took a seat on the other side of the table to make room for her new companion, her movements graceful and confident. The scent of sweet coffee wafted from her mug, half finished as she held it in her hands.
"I come out to the cafes out here sometimes when I go for a run. Figured I should enjoy it while I can before school starts again." She had no idea how she was going to live a life on campus and still stop by home and have her extra circulars. She may have gained interested in some companies to back a scholarship, but she'd been thinking lately about what that would mean for her and those she knew. Everything loomed before her with a giant question mark blazing in the sky.
But what about you? Her head tilted to the right a fraction. "Are you one of the caffeine zombies I'm going to have to watch out for?"

"Definitely. Then again, most things in life need practice." Minnie responded.
The smell of coffee swirled in the air. People shuffled in and out of the cafe. One would think the cacophony of sound would be unconducive for conversation but honestly it made it a little easier. An illusion of privacy. As Kasey spoke, the pinkette tried to picture the younger girl on a jog. Weaving between the tangled roads, dodging the few other people who ventured into the grey morning. Only to finally reach a small cafe with caffeine waiting for her. Sounded like a nice way to start a morning. With a small chuckle she nodded.
"Looks like it, just make sure I don't bite you or you could be in my shoes in a few years. Prowling around cafes for your next fix."
She took a sip of her coffee. Hopefully Kasey wasn't anything like she herself had been when younger. The brunette seemed smarter than that.
