Boats, helicopters, sports cars, and tanks. These were all fine vehicles for various sorts of villainous work, but for this particular task, Dullahan had something different in mind.
After all, it was said that the old mine on Malachite Isle had been tapped of useful resources ages ago, but the miners of that time were a great deal more limited than Dullahan was. With his technological expertise, he had constructed for himself a many-legged tunnel-crawling vehicle large enough to fill a tunnel from one side to the other. Two of the legs had mining drills on the ends, and there was a full suite of mineral analysis modules to locate any remaining valuable deposits.
The journey had been interesting, but ultimately fruitless. The old miners had missed quite a lot of copper, but copper was hardly rare in the first place. There was a deeper section of the mine that Dullahan had yet to explore, but he'd have to pass through an area filled with water, and he hadn't built this vehicle to be waterproof. Really, the most valuable resource offered by the mine might have been its plethora of out-of-the-way hiding spots. Dullahan found it hard to believe that no other villains had already set up shop down here.
He was on his way back to the surface when one of his actuators failed. His vehicle abruptly lurched to the side, grinding against the tunnel wall and crushing two more of his legs. Dullahan quickly shut off his engine, but the damage had been done.
Odd. This vehicle was built with re-purposed parts from the helicopter he had taken to the trainyard, but they were rated for years if not decades more of continuous use. He must have just gotten tremendously unlucky.
It wasn't that much further to the surface, but there was no way that Dullahan was leaving his vehicle behind. He climbed out, tools strapped to his black bodysuit, and made sure that his rarely-seen helmet (a heavy black piece resembling that of a medieval knight) was on straight. Then he started working on repairs. No doubt he'd be here for awhile.
