Shane's red eye followed her finger before it released a flash that trapped the man, this was kind of relaxing in a weird way allowing him to do this without his super suit was just freeing. He turned to her to give his full attention as she spoke about Stunt Double...It wasn't the first time he had seen loss in a dragon attack but it still hurt and left this hollowness in his chest. Reaching out, he patted her shoulder in he hoped a comforting manner.
"I only met the guy once...and he really just wanted to be a hero, so I think he should get a commendation, at the very least we can remember him for the hero that he was. And people are dumb about that sometimes, but hopefully we can remind them right?"
He gave her a weak smile before turning to where she focused on a thug and sighed, this idiot was gonna make him show off a new trick considering he was making it difficult to get a lock on. Closing his left eye helped him zero in on the rambunctious thug before he suddenly stopped mid run and was surrounded by a cage of light.
"Ugh that should...hopefully hold him."
Shane fell a bit to the side, unintentionally using her to support him as the exhaustion from his power and wounds began to kick in, showing off was gonna get him killed soon if his luck continued like this.

It was easier to deal with him as Shane, but the hand on her should startled Canary nonetheless and broke her concentration on the test subjects below. She jumped, then shook her head and looked at him again, trying to find the best words to match her thoughts.
"I guess it's good that he has people to remember him, then." If you died protecting something you cared for or believed in, was that what made you a hero? She'd have done it for her loved ones, but that wasn't what she wanted out of life. It was a piece to her personal puzzle instead of a bigger picture. So many questions had come to her after the dragon, were still present, but so far, there was no answer to be found. So maybe she'd just make some of her own.
"Jeez!" A new trick, indeed, and one that had even more startling results. Normally, she'd have appreciated the cage of light for what it was doing, but having a body suddenly slump on her while she still wasn't her best and leaning forward on the roof was not the greatest of things to happen to her today. She let out a muffled noise of pain and tred to sit upright, grabbing him by the shoulders and holding him at arm's length. He was like a wet noodle; she wasn't sure he wouldn't just topple off the edge if she let go.
"Why did you do that? You're on a roof." She couldn't fly, wouldn't be able to catch him. What had he been thinking?

Shane shrugged weakly with a chuckle as lightheaded-ness caught up with him, making see a few spots and giggly. She was kind of funny when mad and worried like that, nice to see actual exciting emotion from her again. In truth he hadn't been thinking so much as hoping.
"You've saved me every other time, knew you'd be able to save me again."
He chuckled weakly before sitting up a bit on his own, slowly his heart and veins caught up to a normal speed and he was able to think properly. Which also resulted in a harsh coughing fit as the strain hit him once again, god he felt like a smoker at times cause of this blasted cough. But hey least he hadn't fallen to his death this time.
"Sorry...sorry...Mist-er the doc said I should be fine in like another week or so, I'm stuck with the cool anime eye though, though considering my organs muscles and veins were apparently soup, I guess I shouldn't complain...what about you, you still got injuries don't you"
It wasn't a question, seeing the blood stains, sore movements, and hearing the pain gasp all but confirmed it for him that she still had some injuries.

Wait was he...was he giggling? Had he hit his head somewhere on the way out, or was she just that lucky? Canary blinked, uncertain of what to make of this until he made the comment about being able to save him again. Third time's the charm maybe? Or maybe not. Slowly, her hands slide down and away from him, making sure Shane's not going to get himself hurt or fall off if she does.
"That's a lot of faith to have in me." Considering their last conversation, though this one hadn't exploded in their faces yet. Perhaps that was for the best, but then again, maybe not.
Though she caught the slip-up of a near-name, Canary didn't push further. She'd been near a healer herself after the dragon, and regardless of however she managed to get help, she'd had it. Her loved ones had also had it. It didn't make sense, or at least the bitter pill was just as tough to swallow, if not more so. She offered him a slight, wry smile at the mention of anime eyes and shook her head.
"Yeah, I noticed you looked a little bloodshot." A frown again as he described his condition from before. He was lucky to be alive, alright.
"I'll heal." She shrugged and looked away, needing to keep an eye on the goons below. It seemed those least affected were already losing some of their disorientation, which was okay since some of the civilians had been caught up in it. More mental notes for whatever she was going to do with it next.
"The important stuff was taken care of."

"Can you blame me? You've earned it..."
Shane murmured with melancholic smile as he glanced over at her, for a moment there was nothing but exhaustion in his mismatched eyes, over his injuries and what had happened between them. Why it'd have to be like this? They were on the edge like the roof they sat on now, occasionally leaning towards joy and laughter and sometimes falling back into depression. Immediately though he shot a smile back at her comment as he tapped said 'anime eye's side.
"You can't say I don't look BLOODy cool with it."
He grinned with a bit of pride at his obviously awesome eye before frowning at her as well.
"The other stuff matters though, I could at least get you checked out by someone so you're not in as much pain like me...my stuff's just gonna take a while to heal mentally, seems to be a common thing for me huh? uh hehehe."
He nervously laughed while rubbing the back of his head, totally not awkward Shane.

She accepts the words he gives her, telling her she's earned it. It's not worth fighting over. There were other people, better people, and those who had done more. She just happened to be in the right place at the right time. But maybe that was all that was needed sometimes.
"Bloody something." She rolled her eyes and shifted positions so that she was comfortable again, rather than twisting at the waist. The tone was good-natured, but one did have to wonder just how far that extended. When he mentioned her going to see someone else, getting some form of help, she shook her head more vehemently, enough to make herself dizzy regardless of any injuries.
"I'm fine, Shane, really. There are other people who need it more."

"Yes there may be more who need it more, but you deserve it more...please I know someone who can help and I'd accept the cost just, let me help you alright?"
A bit of frustration had slipped into his voice but it was quickly overpowered by concern, he really didn't want her in pain and he had barely seen what she had gone through...but seeing that thing so close to her. He closed his eyes tightly as he shuddered before looking her over again, she was just sore...that's it and that's all she's ever gonna tell someone like you, so give up. With a sigh and a rub of the back of his head, Shane nodded in defeat.
"Never mind you're uh...you're right as usual kas-canary..."
He blushed and gulped at his near fuck up, looking around in panic in any case any stealthy super had heard before relaxing, he had some of the best eyes in spite of his injury and would've noticed someone if they were there.
"S-sorry.."

Several came to mind when Canary made a polite refusal of Shane's offer, but his words cut through them all with piercing clarity. She deserved it more? His words got her to look away from the scene below for a significantly longer time as she looked at him, looking for some sort of follow to that reasoning.
"I'll be fine. Just means I can't do the fancy stuff out there a while yet ." She sighed and shook her head. "I'm not as durable as you are."
The sound of her name slipping out sent a shock to her system that had Canary sitting upright with a jolt, panic in her eyes as she looked around to ensure they were alone. She didn't even need a full hand to list off Jose who knew her real name; she figured most supers were the same. So what the heck just happened?
"What was that supposed to be?." Had he ever slipped up on her name before?
"Shane, I'm not durable like you guys are. I don't need someone deciding that taking me on out of uniform for whatever reason. I can't pull powers out of my pocket in some last ditch effort to keep going."

Shane let out an awkward sigh as he felt a pit form in his stomach, he deserved that bit of lashing out he had fucked up massively but it's not like he had meant it. Irritation and guilt were at a constant battle in his head and he violently shook, taking a bit of frustration out at another idiot attempting escape, this time using a thick wall of light to have him run into it and hopefully become unconscious.
"Sorry, sorry this is new to me alright, knowing something like that...you're the only person who knows me and that I know..."
Though he really wished that wasn't the case sometimes but that was a discussion for later, the tension was strong but it wasn't unbearable yet. He sure as hell was not going to be the one dropping that bomb anytime soon.
"Won't happen again alright? Here I'm Shane and you're Canary."
Why couldn't it just be that? Stuff just had to become complicated as usual.

"But has it happened before?" Her frown remained as she looked at him, seeing a friend and yet someone who was dangerous to her, now as Shane. She shook her head, expression softening as she tried to get him to understand the importance of his slip up.
"This is new to me, too, and I want to understand. I really do. But I also need you to understand that you're keeping more than just me safe with that secret, Shane." She knew he wouldn't do that on purpose, she truly believed it, but Canary needed to know that another accidental slip-up hadn't happened, that she didn't need to watch her back more closely when going home, or her family for that matter. That she wouldn't have to get creative protecting her loved ones or her stashes, that she wouldn't need to change her name or anything else like that.
She looked away with a quiet sigh and closed her eyes, the goons below forgotten.

"Canary the only time I've discussed you without a nickname is with you...how do you think I feel? You even give one goody two shoes my name, and suddenly my life becomes a living hell due to all factions and the government coming after my ass...so I gotta ask the same in return, have you ever mentioned me?"
He understood the danger and nature of their subject, it was one he had to deal with for years now and one he never forgot about. The annoying thing was how she acted like she was more important, he had people he gave a damn about too and she had just as much dirt on him as he did her...god that wasn't the right way to think about her, she deserved a lot but GAH it's so confusing and aggrivating sitting next to her.

"What? No!" She looked up at him and blinked, startled as though he'd just slapped her. How could he ever ask that of her? If she'd really felt the need, she could. She had that power. But just because she had the power didn't mean she wanted it or even thought to use it. Let's just add another layer of conflict to this mess. She ran a hand through her hair and tried to push the aggravation away. The rooftop suddenly felt too small, like she would be able to topple over with a light breeze.
"Why would I?"

"Not like you don't got a bias against supers, I don't know what happened with you and them, probably something bad or maybe you just don't like them because of people like me or the violent ones..."
Shane spoke aloud, more voicing his thoughts then actually answer her question. This was so tense and he was kind of attempting to get it out in the open so they could just figure this out and stop playing this kinda waiting game or charade. Plus his head was beginning to feel light from injuries and using his power and maybe he wasn't going to last the entire night. Shaking his head in an attempt to clear the never ending fog.
"Why wouldn't you Canary? I don't even know if we're still friends and hell selling me out would do the city a shit ton of good, the only good I did was stupidly fight a dragon and almost die cause of it."

The slight dig at her attitude as well as what might lead to it lead the bright little bird to fall silent, looking away again with a frown. There were some things you just didn't talk about on principle, not when you barely knew someone. The topic itself wasn't that big, but hate situation that had lead to it was more awkward and complicated than the first years of puberty. Now it was infecting the current situation, and for a moment, she felt herself give in. It would just be easier if he knew, anyway. They could find out where they really stood and stop having this on again, off again dance.
"So did I," she pointed out softly, frown deepening as she glanced at him, then shook her head. "We could all be blamed for that." They both knew it, even if that wasn't the point he was making. How was it she kept finding herself intertwined with members of violent gangs that took over and claimed the place she called home? Their 'territory,' and yet, that wasn't what bugged her the most. Unlike some, Shane hadn't weilded that over her head. Not that he knew, but he hadn't gone digging to know, either, or pushed for it. Or had he, and she jsut hand't known or been there? How much of his secret life affected her? Or did it?
"I doubt that's the only good you've done, anyway." She sighed and pulled her legs up, scooting back so she could stretch them out before her instead. Or rather, she started to, but the look of him had her deciding against doing so.
"Maybe you should sit back before you fall." Again. Sighing, she shook her head.
"Yes, I could turn you in. I could probably do more than that, and not just to you. But that's not the point. One super off the street? It's a small victory, and what for? You're a good guy, Shane, but that doesn't stop you from being dangerous.
"You said it yourself - you just woke up one day with powers. Anyone can do that. We don't know who, or what they'll get. It's like a child playing with a gun and there's no knowing if the safety's on. You have something we don't, and you use it, but people are going to be afraid when those powers are used to hurt them." She swallowed as the last words came out a whisper, staring off at some point between the buildings beyond them. Her throat felt dry and gritty, as though she'd swallowed sand or cotton.
Still, sometimes she wondered if the memories just something tainted by hero worship, the idea of what her father could have been if he'd survived. If he'd lived to see her turn into a teen, to see his children grow into who they were now. What would he have said or done? Would he still try to be in their lives, or would the messy fallout have ruined any chance of that until they were older?
"Even when those who do try to help or understand are the ones that are made an example of."

Shane hung on to each word she said, tiredly nodding his head along to show he had been listening before thinking about her suggestion. He had almost made them fall off once, no reason to risk that again or piss her off more. With a quick turn, he plopped down so his back was up against the little wall, still keeping his head turned to her as he listened. Well at least she still thought he was a good guy, that's nice. He had some choice words about being related to a child with a gun but kept those to himself, she was a roll and like hell he was about to stop her, especially with her voice revealing some emotion finally.
"...Then why should we help? Listen I don't like talking about supers as if we're another race, we're not and it pisses me off. We're people that just have shitty or good luck depending on who you're talking to. And it's stressful alright? Ignore everything else about people or the fact that some of us can't control what we do, and think of what we go through. Puberty is stressful enough for some kids, it's a huge change in mental thinking and stuff, but suddenly you wake up and boom you can make bombs with your mind, or you're a werewolf, or can grow twenty stories...Then these dragons, things that should be fucking myths, come to your home and kill everything and you're told it's your fault that they come, that they fucking exist even...I ask you again why supers should help people? If we're still gonna be alienated, hunted by police, blamed for every fucking disaster, and barely get a semblance of normal. And don't you dare tell me that supers shouldn't use their powers, because for one some of them can't not use them and two it's a part of us. It'd be like me telling you to act dumb."
Shane took deep gulps of air while he considered his rant and quickly shook his head, he fucking ranted again and he didn't even know if it was worth it or if he even believed it, but that wasn't gonna stop him from continuing.
"It's hard to want to help those who hate you Canary, I think if I didn't know it was illegal to be a 'super' I might've been attempted being a hero instead of villain but I've had enough pain to last several life times and if the info's right, I think it's not about end anytime soon...so why do you help normal people? Cause you're normal? You're not a freak but just a decent person?"
