"When I discover something important like that I make a point of making it common knowledge. I'm not like the Keepers, I don't hoard information so I can feel superior from the shadows, so that's not something you have to worry about."
The second question got her to look at the machine from the corner of her eyes again, though she didn't bother to turn to face it. Aurora's relationship with the rest of Pandaemonium was complicated and not something even she fully understood. What she was working on now was only somewhat related to the horde itself, and had more to do with the fact that she felt like this was her area, her territory, and thus was her responsibility to fix. She paused for a moment to mull it over.
"Define care. First, again, it's not mine. I don't run this place, I don't own it anymore than the person down the street does. Second, I have yet to meet someone in Pandaemonium that I actually like. They're universally scum. Third, I'm not doing any of this for them. Let's face it, no one's going to care about this part of town. If I didn't take the time to rebuild it, it'd stay a burnt husk forever. I'm not going to let that happen."

It slowly tilted its head back to face her as she spoke, a motion that looked somewhat unnatural for a humanoid shape.
"If you did not care, why would you bother rebuilding it? On some level, it must disturb you to leave things in this state."
Osiris would slowly lift a hand to point to its side, down the street towards the civilians nearby, a single finger extended towards them.
"If they're scum, you would not object to their destruction, yes?"

"I obviously care about not leaving this area in this state, I wouldn't be putting this much effort into rebuilding it otherwise. I said no one else did. This area of town is the slums and setting it on fire probably raised property values. No one cares about the poor or where they're supposed to live. Downtown would be rebuilt without my help, but this place would be left to smolder forever if I didn't decide to fix it."
Aurora turned her attention towards the people working on the building she just finished dropping off materials far. She had no idea who any of them were, how many of them had powers, or even how many of them were in Pandaemonium. At this point, she was happy with any warm body that was willing to work, and was even trying to provide incentives to get more people to do so. She didn't care who they were, if they could fix the area she would use them.
"I'm not even sure how many of those people are in Pandaemonium, but regardless of course I object to their destruction as you put it. People can be improved, and even pond scum is an important source of food for the fish in the pond. Everyone has their place, and everyone has their use."

"Improvement..."
That word stuck out to Osiris more than any other, and it was that that caused it to lower its hand once more, resting comfortably at its side.
"...what do you know of improvement? Were you born with your power, Aurora?"
The words, while somewhat accusatory, were more meant as genuine queries.

The tone and the words themselves were enough to make her quirk a brow. It was becoming clear to her that she made the right choice by continuing to work rather than giving this machine her full attention. It clearly didn't deserve it.
"You're asking me that question? I thought we had already established that this place would be a burnt husk if I didn't take the time to fix it. That alone proves that I obviously know a lot about improvement. As for powers? Of course I wasn't born with them, no one is. Or at the very least I've never heard of a genuine case of even a child, let alone a baby, developing powers. It's only used as a scare tactic in anti-super propaganda. If you payed even a little bit of attention to supers you should know that already."

"So your powers were developed from an outside source then? Some sort of injection, mutation, or other external stimuli? Because that was what I was asking."
Osiris would actually make an unimpressed snort sound, which would come across more like a cough given the modification system for its voice.
"For someone so judgemental and condescending, you seem to have issues actually understanding others. Perhaps that's where your hostility comes from."

"If you're not being understood, that is not the fault of the listener. If you want to be understood, use your words correctly and make yourself understandable. Don't blame me for your own incompetence. Besides, that question is equally as stupid if you follow super news at all. No one knows even knows where powers come from. Artificially creating them isn't even in the realm of possibility right now. There isn't even any research suggesting we're anywhere close."

"You are correct, of course."
Osiris would lift its hands in a placating fashion.
"I will take care to ensure you understand me from now on. I was curious as to whether your power had been improving over time, ever since you had developed it, but I assume I have used up what little goodwill I have already."
It would slowly back up.
"I believe I should take my leave."

"Then you should have asked that instead of wasting my time and beating around the bush with pointless questions," she paused for a moment. "The answer is yes."
At this point she was just mildly irritated, and if the machine was already nervous it better hope that it never actually see her mad. Aurora wasn't feeling particularly inclined to correct it though. It probably didn't want to see what happened when it actually exhausted all her good will anyway, even though that was fairly difficult to do. Instead, she just turned back to the task at hand. There was more to be done after all.
