A fight is very close to what lay ahead on the rooftop, the truth of his words stinging sharp. He was right and she loathed to give him that, but the truth was no different than what she faces every day before now.
"I'm not blaming life for my limits. I'm all ears if you can transcend death." She paused for a moment, and as quick as her indignation fueled her anger, it shifted its focus to something else, something akin to scorn and amusement.
"But can the Warrior King admit that he needs a kingdom to be a king? Both our hobbies require other people sometimes - mine just doesn't leave them to be a bloody meat sack on a good day." Literally.

"Deflection."
Deflecting from her problems, he life, and her lack of achievement to drag him into it. Asserting that he needed a kingdom to be a King. Though he had little interest in being a leader of men. To him that is not the heart of what he was. He was a warrior long before he would consider himself to be a king. Namesake aside.

"But still true." Her stubbornness would probably end up being being her downfall one day. "You still need people to fight.
"What happens when you achieve whatever it is your working towards, Gilgamesh?" Challenge fills her voice and expression, giving her a new burst of energy. "Do you have a plan for what happens next, or do you intend to see what the journey offers?" She knew what her answer was, but she wasn't interested in sharing her reflections or life story. She's already said enough.

"Mine is a goal that will never be reached until I decide it is finished or I die. There is always another step."
The path to bettering himself, to becoming the pinnacle of what he was didn't stop with titles. It didn't stop with achievements. It didn't stop when he was the strongest in the city, the country, the world, or even history. His quest could only end one of two ways. When he decided that he was strong enough, or when he died. His death was the far more likely outcome.
But they all died someday, he would not shy away from it. For the path he walked lead to greatness and enlightenment. It lead to inner peace and the knowledge that he lived his life moving forward, pushing himself. No regrets. No wasted time or missed chances.

They're both intelligent enough that Awenydd doesn't bother pointing out that everyone's goal would end when, inevitably, they died. There was something so...accepting in the way he said it, an acknowledgement of fact rather than trying to fight against the inevitable. The same for if someone chose to be done. There was just something about the way he said it that made it seem more.
She envied him for that. Maybe she shouldn't, but that hadn't stopped her from feeling or doing things before. She lets the silence hang between them, looking down at the ground below as another ricochet of gunshots pierced the night, farther away this time.
"You're wrong, you know." She doesn't look at him, weighing her words carefully instead. Curse his proving her wrong and provoking more serious contemplation. She knew what she wanted, right? But if she did, why hesitate? Why be reluctant to don the mask, nevermind moving forward?

"Everyone is from time to time."
He'd stand up, growing weary of where this conversation was heading. Displeased that he had allowed himself to be roped into being a therapist or something. He wasn't here to fix her problems, and he didn't really want to. That's why they were her problems. Not his. He assumed she was going to tell him what he was wrong about though, people generally liked to get that dig in. Let the other person know how they were wrong.
But whether or not she did, he found it really hard to keep caring. Instead he'd slowly start making his way to the edge of the rooftop. Looking out over the city, specifically toward the docks. There was a lot to do there still, one big thing that he needed to do before he stopped playing this little game. Then, and only then could he let himself move on.

"So it seems." A little less sarcasm? Maybe, but either way she wasn't sticking around. Tonight was supposed to have been a night on inspiration, not aggravation and angst. Instead, she had a head full of words she'd heard time and again, and maybe that was saying something, but that was a thought for a different night.
Rather than say any form of farewell, she left Gilgamesh to do whatever it was he would do. Pushing herself off of the roof, her descent down the fire escape, she took far less care going down than she did coming up, the lock still broken and now forgotten as Awenydd made her way through the slums.
How long had it even been? Two years now? Four? Perhaps it was time to take things a little more seriously, after all.

He let her go. He had been done with the situation from the moment it started. When she was gone he was able to take a breath of relief. He thought he wore the silence better. He had to ask himself how much longer he was going to play this game though. He was pretty confident that he could get to his target, and probably kill them too. Did he really need to set everything up?
Would they even be able to stop him if he just walked in through the front door? He could see it in his head. And the satisfaction when he looked that piece of trash in the eyes. He wondered if the guy would remember him. No, probably not, but that was fine. He'd never forget him again. That was for sure. And so it was as Awenydd made her way into the gloomy darkness below Gilgamesh stood on the roof illuminated by the moonlight laughing.
Soon.
