Lobisomem stared at their reflection in the lake, pulling odd faces as they checked the length of their fangs, which had grown back long enough to stick out of their jaws. Their paws were next, the gleaming claws were basically knives, curling inward to better hook prey. Next, Lobisomem stood as tall as they could. Last they checked, they were twice as tall as a human...Now they were tall enough to touch the branches of a tree without straining.
They almost laughed, if they didn't feel like crying. No wonder they were always hungry, if they were growing like this!
Yet, amazingly, this wasn't what they had come to know. Instead they took a breath and released the transformation, relying on the moonlight to avoid transforming back. They paused a moment to secure the wolf pelt, to disguise themselves during this experiment.
They trotted over to the darkest edges, nearly under the trees. They raised an arm and, before they could think about it, plunged it into the point where no light reached. Instantly, a horrible popping noise sounded, raising a flash of pain as Lobisomem leaned over and braced themselves on a tree as it eased up.
They drew it out as fast as possible, but was unprepared for the sight that awaited them. Their arm had turned into something more than human, the skin was tight and stretched and their nails had extended into black claws. Lobisomem could feel their breathing speed up and screwed their eyes shut, calming themselves before risking another look, finding the arm had returned to normal.
They stumbled back over the lake and flopped down, cupping their face in their hands as the resumed the staring contest with their reflection.
What am I turning into?
