To say the last couple of weeks had been busy felt like an understatement. While nothing earth shattering had happened, Canary had been reminded once again who took great pains to run the town and who was willing to tear it apart. Between the docks and brushing the shoreline of the upper crust, you couldn't shake a stick without hitting someone. Add to that the recent string of murder and the uproar at the mayor's speech and you had to wonder how the city had managed keep from collapsing on itself.
What she needed tonight was a pick-me-up, a chance to breathe before her other life took over, along with the responsibilities it woudl bring. She was ready for the challenge, even if it was still intimidating. She was going to be a duck out of water with a broken foot rather than a canary.
The rhythm of life downtown helped to pull her thoughts to the more lively side of a things, a small smile tugging at her lips as she stayed out of sight of the main road. She should probably adjust a few things to make it a little less easier to find her, though for some reason people seemed to do so anyway. Maybe they just didn't want to see what might be crazy enough to wear yellow at night instead of all black, or what it might mean if they met the person wearing it.
Their loss. Or rather, her gain. Maybe she'd hit up some of the stores tonight and resupply. Either way, the night was young. She hummed a little tune under her breath, matching the sound of hte music that blared out of the building she passed by.

It was a quiet night, and for once, that was actually an issue. Because of how hectic the past few weeks had been, both for his civilian and super personas, Geata had only just recently managed to finally hear about current events, such as the mayoral speech. He wasn't exactly pleased with what happened, and was less pleased with who all had supported said events, but he felt a bit of pride at the fact that there were supers who stood against it. At least some people had the good sense to know that ruining the public image for supers wasn't the way to make things better.
Even so, he was in an unpleasant disposition, and he didn't want to risk facing certain individuals and possibly griping them out, especially for standing up for what they believed in. Even if they were exceptionally stupid in how they went about it. And so he was out in the night, hoping against hope that he'd run into some unfortunate soul that had the misfortune of deciding that doing something stupid that night was actually a good idea.
Instead, he caught a flash of yellow that was somewhat familiar. If he remembered costumes correctly, it was the same yellow of the girl from the night at the docks where everything devolved into a fight between supers extremely quickly. She had been fighting alongside that dumbass magician Panda. Sadly for her, Pandas were kinda on Geata's shit list that night, and that meant she now had his attention. He wasn't going to attack her, that was exactly the issue he had with that night in the first place, but he was not above following her and seeing what she was doing.
Doing his best not to attract her attention, he decided to do just that. Following from a good distance behind her, he waited to see exactly what her intentions were.

Canary was more than happy to make her way along the backstreets, occasionally looking back behind her and around to ensure that no one was following that would actually care, or at least those who would think to call for the police without the use of super powers. So far, there was nothing, which felt kind of odd. Nice, but odd. Like a calm before the storm, or just a night when the world decided it didn't want to put maximum effort into tripping her up tonight.
She could work with that.
Her target for the night was actually one of the local news stations, specifically the one that had been promoting footage of the mayor's speech the most. Before and after the incident started was fine with her. Canary wanted to see for herself what might have been hidden thanks to the media. Her footsteps were quieter than a normal person's as she came across the back door. Sure enough, there was an electronic keypad. Delight and a hint of smugness light her eyes as she set to work acquiring the code.
Child's play.

In a moment where the person's fingers weren't on the keypad, Geata opened a portal a hair's breadth off of it that would make further interaction difficult, to say the least. Looking through it would reveal a bird's eye view of her position, from roughly thirty feet directly above. He could've just dropped her a few hundred feet away instead, but he didn't want to do anything rash, even with his current temperament. Perhaps even because of it. It wasn't as though the woman was breaking into a bank or jewelry store, so he was going to at least give her a chance to explain her actions.
With hands in his pockets, Geata stepped out where he was sure she could see him. He debated for a moment on what he should say, trying to decide on the words, but everything seemed cliché. "Hi," he said with a sigh. Perhaps introductions would be best? It would probably make it clear that he wasn't there to fight, not yet anyway, but it also felt wrong for the situation. Then again, how often were people caught committing an obvious crime by a person who was letting curiosity outweigh their irritation?
"I don't remember if I ever gave my name that night at the docks," he said. "I'm Geata."

Canary's fingers froze the moment that the glow on the keypad ceased to exist, replaced instead with a purple one that encircled an excellent view from above - of her. Her breath caught in her throat as she took in the fact that something else was glowing, fighting the urge to find out what it was. The brunette bit back a sound of dismay, spinning around to where she estimated the view must be coming from. Another super, a fact that she knew in her bones before ever catching sight of the other person in the alleyway. Her head pivoted in his direction, taking in the flash of a hood causing her to tense before taking in the color as well as the smiling skull mask. Unnerving, but also familiar.
Sure enough, the guy that had been popping in and out of the docks the other day was there, greeting her much the same way she had him. Would this also end up that same way?
"Oh, sure, now want to say hi." She huffed, giving a playful pout before her expression returned to its normal smile. "Hello, Geata. You can call me Canary. Now, if you'd please remove that." She tilted her head towards where the portal was, or had been, "I'd be happy to finish up here and get out of your way."

Geata frowned slightly as he thought about that night. Had he not said hi? He could've sworn he did, he usually did when he was meeting people, and until powers were being thrown around that was all that he had felt about the situation. There was no way he didn't greet Canary, was there?
After some hardcore remembering, Geata responded with a hesitant voice. "Didn't I at least wave at you or something?" And then, suddenly, his tone changed to match her playful one. "Hey, listen, you say that like I was the guy throwing smoke bombs and attacking with tigers and crap. Don't blame me that supers are all apparently trigger happy. Uh, present company excluded, obviously."
He then glanced at the portal over the keypad before continuing. "As for that, I'm afraid I have to insist on it staying there, at least for the moment. That'll change very quickly, though, if you can give me a good reason for letting you break into a news station."

“That's not really a hi, that's like a super's version of a dine and dash.” She snorted and rolled her eyes. Go figure, grab what you want and run the moment someone said hello like a Boogeyman. Spooky boo. But maybe that could count as a hello. Maybe.
“I haven't blamed you for anything yet,” she insisted, eyes still wide. “Well, expect for the neat little trick. How do you do that, anyway?” Genuine interest overtakes curiosity until he mentioned her reason for being here. She gave a little tsk and shook her head.
“You can't tell me you expect the media to paint an honest picture.” Please, please let him have understood that before now. “I want to see for myself what happened – the full, unaltered truth.” Her lips quirked. “Can't say no if they're not around to complain.”

"It's... hard to explain," Geata said with an apologetic shrug. "Very short answer is that I just do." He hadn't been asked about how he managed to use his powers yet, and realizing that alone was enough to make him put the whole "hello" issue on hold. He was surprised it was the first time, for one thing; it seemed like a question that would be pretty prevalent amongst supers, but he hadn't thought to ask anyone himself either. He was also surprised that he hadn't already had an answer prepared for it. Whatever, he could figure it out as he went along if Canary decided to press further. For now, there was still the issue of the news station.
"Please, I knew about how biased the media is long before it actually started to be relevant to my daily life," he scoffed jokingly. "I think I did a paper on yellow journalism back in... the seventh grade? It's been a few years, details are hazy, ask the magic 8-ball again later." The rest of what she said gave him pause, though. "I suppose you have a point," he said finally, "and I can't exactly argue against that. And I suppose there's something in there that I could stand to see myself. Depending on how the show goes, it might even be best to make it publicly available. Or to destroy it completely."
He sighed, and suddenly the portal over the keypad disappeared, but one appeared in front of the door, showcasing the inside of the building. "This might be faster," he said quietly. "Don't worry, it's completely safe. I won't close it on you."

"You just do it?" She blinked, watching hi as though she expected him to be all smiles while sneaking a stink bob to go off behind her with one of his portals. How do you just...do it? Not wonder what it is, following instinct or whatever without questioning? Wondering? Or had he, but had come to accept it over time? Mystery was great once in a while, but what if his portals did things? Other things?
But the conversation would have to wait until she wasn't standing around with him outside the back door where the keypad was. Two supers in a back alley wasn't suspicious of anything at all. At least they weren't going to have to fight over it. The hero seemed pretty sensible, which was a mercy. Now she could get back to work and--
Oh.
"Neat!" Looking from the portal to Geata, she shoo kher head and gestured towards the portal. It would have been better if the portal wasn't there, but he seemed nice enough, and Canary had accepted help from other supers without knowing much, or anything, about them before.
"After you."

Geata nodded. It was probably a bit difficult to just accept that answer, but it was true. Even so, he didn't mind clarifying just a little. "An analogy that would make sense is... it's a lot like flexing a muscle. It's hard to explain exactly how I do it. It's just something I did accidently one day and since then have been able to do on command." It wasn't exactly elegant, but it was probably the easiest way for it to be understood. With that said, he walked through the portal.
"How about you, Canary? Forgive me, but I can't really remember what you do. It was a hectic night, full of tigers and wasps and that idiot in the paper bag." He shot her an apologetic look, but he wasn't sure how well it would translate, given his mask.

Canary took a moment to actually contemplate that. Not waking up one day and having powers, but this specific power. It sounded like it could have been horrifying. Amazing, but horrifying and dangerous. Still, her lips quirked and she shook her head. There were more questions to be had, and her voice lowered once they were inside, looking around to see where exactly they had wound up. She assumed it would only be the other side of the door, but then again, she'd been wrong about other supers before.
"Nothing to forgive." She ran through the breakdown of the building's layout in her mind as she spoke. "It was pretty hectic. I mean, there were talking cats and everything." And angry Pandaemonium members. She'd have to watch out for those.
"Me? I make things."

Geata indeed only had the portal lead to the other side of the door. In some cases, simple was best, in his opinion. That was why he didn't try to pull off too many fancy tricks with his powers unless the situation called for them. He didn't know the layout of the building, where the best place to appear would be, or what the odds were of walking right into a sticky situation. He assumed Canary had probably planned out her little raid, but if not, that was fine too. He was a tagalong who wasn't too willing to risk making everything worse.
"Making things is pretty cool," he said absentmindedly as he listened for any signs of incoming guards on patrol or anything. Content when nothing was heard for the immediate moment, he decided to continue talking, albeit quieter than when they were outside. "That has real world applications. Me? I'm able to move stuff, but not in a way that's highly sought after in the job market. If you don't mind my asking, what all sorts of stuff have you made? I'm assuming battle capable stuff, of course, but that's not strictly all that I mean."

"Mhmmm." It was as vague as his had been, but just as true. She was more than a one-trick pony, sure, but trying to break down that explanation while they were supposed to be operating in stealth didn't happen. She enjoyed talking about her work, but she also had to wonder what would happen if Geata kept whatever she told him in mind the next time they were on opposite sides. It was the logical thing to do, after all.
"It depends on what's needed. Sometimes it's just opting for a different power source, sometimes it's elevation platforms and tools if you're injured. Security and maintanence stuff." After a moment of silence, Canary nodded in the direction they would be heading in, which meant going up a flight of stairs. They could see light coming from whatever awaited them when they reached that point, but there were a few open doors along the way and security cameras, as well. She would have preferred finding a way to get them taken care of beforehand, but it was hardly the worst thing Canary had done.
Counting on Geata to be able to be stealthy, she started making her way down the hall, hugging the wall and pausing to listen for sounds of footsteps or anything that might provide a good distraction.

Geata nodded silently at Canary's answer as he surveyed the hallway before them. Open doors were simple to get past, security cameras less so unless there was an obvious blind spot. The back wall appeared to be the best place to be, with no cameras angled directly at it. At the same time, it was admittedly a bit of a gamble on whether or not it was clear, and Canary seemed to know what she was doing. Suppressing a sigh, Geata did as she did.
After a relatively short period of time, the distinct sound of footfalls started to come from a doorway they had already passed. Geata looked to Canary to see if she would take the lead on dealing with the issue. If she didn't, Geata had a plan to keep them from getting caught, but it probably wasn't one that she'd care for.

They'd passed the first couple of doors without any hiccups to the little adventure, but it wouldn't last. Sure enough, the sound of footsteps echoed through the hall from behind them. Canary turned her head in the direction of the sound, trying to get an idea of how many there were. One, maybe two. The static of a walkie talkie, but no raised voices. This was going to go one of two ways: poorly, or spectacularly.
Grateful for the silence, she figured now was another time to try a short distance test. Nodding at Geata to continue going towards the stairs, the little bird stayed behind, creeping back to the last open doorway and placing a device just inside the door and turning it to face out towards the hall when activated. Once finished, she hurried back the way they had been going, and if Geata looked, he could see a small trigger peeking out at the end of her hand as she kept a firm grasp on it. Ducking into the next open doorway, she kept her head low, watching for signs of their shadows along the wall and listening for their voices. She just needed them to remain relaxed, hopefully they were if they hadn't seen her.
Three...two....one...
The device went off as the guard's passed, their shouts turning to gags as one of the unfortunate folks got a mouth full of her silly string-spider web substance. It was not kid tested or mother approved, but it did the job with a wireless device to set it off instead of contact. She'd call that a win and wince for the guy who wouldn't be able to taste anything else that night.
"Time to go," she murmured, already on the move.
