Geata watched as Canary planted a device before taking cover. He continued to the stairs before he suddenly heard shouting and then subsequent gagging coming from behind. He barely had time to look back and see guards covered in an unknown substance before Canary darted past him. Following her lead, he picked up speed.
It didn't sound like the guards were following them, but they didn't exactly sound pleased about it themselves. Unfortunately, the sounds of them struggling with the effects of Canary's device was gathering the attention of other people. Geata cursed their luck as he spoke to his partner in crime for the night. "Hey, Tweetie, you know where we're going, yeah? Give me directions and I'll cut off some travel time."

Tweetie? Really? Well, then again, she was the one who decided to wear bright yellow; Canary had earned that one. She felt bad for the guys left in the sticky goo, but it was better that than their getting caught or, worse, someone coming along and getting hurt. It happened sometimes, but the idea was to leave this place with as clean a getaway as possible. Making a name for herself would come later.
"Sure I do." She eyed him as she slowed down a fraction, but only just. There was no telling where the next set of guards would come from, and she was already on her toes. As much as she disliked the idea of using powers, she was also curious what would happen if they went through it again.
There was a moment's pause, then she rattled off the directions in a single breath, nodding with the rapid-fire instructions.
"Second door on your left, pass the hall on our right. Guard room is on the other side, but it's pretty open."

Geata took only a moment before a portal opened up directly in front of them. Passing through it would feel no than if they hadn't gone through it, although it might have been slightly disorientating to go from seeing one thing to suddenly seeing something else.
The same moment that both of them were clear of the portal, it closed behind them. Unfortunately, that left them right in the line of sight of two very confused guards. Geata barely had time to look back and make a mental joke about how they used the buddy system before they started running towards the two costumed intruders. Suddenly, another portal opened before the two men and, when it closed, they were gone. If Canary had been watching, she would've seen the sky through the portal, nothing else.

And just like that, progress made. it was strange, to walk through the portal and suddenly be somewhere else, and it did take out a bit of the thrill of sneaking around, but no sooner had they stepped through than they drew the attention of the guards across the hall. The open walkway meant they had a clear shot, all of them. For a moment, she paused, gauging the distance as she prepared to step back out of sight and prepare another defense, the portal forgotten. Geata, however, had a different idea.
Instead, she was left to stare at a portal that revealed the open sky, the guards who were about to interrupt them were no longer an issue, but she couldn't get the image out of her mind. Just what the heck had happened to them?
"Where...where did they go?" This was now the most important question.

Geata turned and tilted his head when he heard Canary's question. It was a perfectly reasonable question, he guessed. After all, it wasn't like she would know about his policy on killing. He opened his mouth to answer but then promptly shut it. What would be the best way to explain it? The angle alone made it strange, and they didn't have time to go into great lengths on it.
"They're on the roof," he said after a brief second. "It opened a few feet above, and with how they entered, it would've been like running directly at the ground. Shouldn't be more than bumps and bruises, unless the guy who landed first is super unlucky. He might've broke a rib breaking the other guy's fall, but that's iffy. Should make it harder to let everyone know where we are, and they ought to be picking themselves up now. Anyway, the portal was horizontal, so what we just saw was straight up. They went straight down."
While he was content with the answer, he wondered if the woman would feel the same. He waited, ready to get moving again or to answer further questions in case he forgot an important detail.

Interesting just got a bit of creepy to dance with. Canary blinked at his explanation, one that was a little more detailed than before, though she'd worried when Geata said the guards were on the roof. Her lips tugged in a hint of amusement as he explained that his powers hadn't actually done anything to harm the two guards. At least, hopefully not.
But that was the thing, wasn't it? Hopefully. That single word promised so much and nothing at the same time. it said you hoped for the best and planned for it, then washed your hands clean of it. She wasn't sure if his assurances came from thinking about his powers before they had met, or from personal experience. It seemed somewhat important to find out, and sooner would be better than later.
"And how often do you go dropping people out of portals?" She raised a brow but didn't stand around to chat this time, heading over to the terminal and beginning her work. Hopefully their friends on the roof wouldn't have immediate access back inside, though she figured that any security guards that might remain (were there any? She didn't know how many were on the payroll for a station of this size, or who woudl be on backup) would come back for them at some point.
The blast of bright light from the monitor caused her to squint, but otherwise Canary showed no physical signs of anything being wrong.

Geata noticed the look of surprise on Canary's face. He grinned slightly underneath his mask at it, as she had clearly been expecting worse. Her question had him stop and think for a moment as he watched her her to work. She certainly had skills, given how he could tell from a short glance that he had no clue what she was doing. But nothing seemed to be going wrong, so she must know what she was doing.
"You mean besides myself?" He turned and decided to keep watch on the hallway, so as to let her know if any unwelcome company were to try to arrive. "It's kinda common, I suppose? It's always a good disorientation tactic, and pretty handy in a fight. A lot easier than opening a smaller portal to protect myself every time somebody wants to stab me or shoot me." He shrugged absentmindedly, barely registering that the shouts from downstairs had stopped. Maybe the guys had just given up on getting out any time soon, he hoped.
"How about you? Do you normally use crazy contraptions on people?"

Canary pauses as Geata talks about his power, sensing his amusement beneath the mask despite not being able to see it. Her own lips pulled down in a slight frown of concentration as she took in the message that popped up on the computer screen. She'd gotten through part of the hack, but she needed more if she was going to get in. Thankfully, it wasn't a type of protection that would keep them there all night. Not if she was as good as she hoped she was.
Then there was the fact that Geata's words were distracting. He'd thought of ways to not be violent with his powers, and that she could appreciate, but by the sound of things, he'd had plenty of practice. It still didn't settle her concern or her curiosity, and he might be lying to her, but there was something about the way he didn't think about some parts, but did focus on others suggested otherwise.
There is a long pause as she processes what's on teh screen as well as his question.
"Sometimes." The admission comes slowly; she spared him a glance out of the corner of her eye to gauge his reaction. "I've had to, before."

Geata glanced over in time to catch a message pop up on the screen. Either Canary was encountering some issues, or she managed to get the job done already. Given how she wasn't saying anything to her partner for the day, he was willing to assume it was probably the former. Well, she wasn't saying anything about how it was a lost cause yet either, so he turned his attention back to the hall. Still clear, thankfully, but he wondered how long that would last.
Her answer to his question caused him to raise an eyebrow. He supposed his answer had been kinda vague, but her's was a whole different level. He waited a moment to see if she would go into a further detail, but when it was clear that she wouldn't, he decided to try and give her a little push.
"Care to elaborate?" His tone was that if curiosity, nothing else. Hopefully she'd be willing to talk, but if not, he could always try and find some other topic to fill the silence.

There was an additional pause as Canary took a moment to listen, focusing on the world around her as she tried to locate the sounds of footsteps or the static of a two-way radio. when nothing reached her, she went back to her progress, letting out a frustrated huff as the computer's security defied her.
"You heard the other supers: they were claiming territory for Pandaemonium. Between them and the people who disagrer with them, you don't just go around hoping everything will be sunshine and rainbows." Not unless you wanted to end up mugged or in a ditch somewhere. The two weren't mutually exclusive.
"Nothing that would destroy them or anything," she added as the message popped up again. One more shot. "But you can't just ask them nicely to leave you alone."

Geata let out a chuckle when Canary mentioned fighting between the Pandas and other people. While the territory disputes were decidedly unfunny, the way she phrased it while talking about the other supers from the docks just struck him the right way.
"You know, most people would think superpowers would be used, at least by the majority of us, for helping out our fellow man. Instead we get all these psychos, or morons, or selfish bastards being the ones to get the ability to shape the world as they see fit. Sunshine and rainbows went out the window a long time ago."
He had turned the majority of attention to Canary, and started to feel slightly concerned when he saw the message from before pop up again. He quickly quieted his doubts; after all, if she wasn't able to do it, she would be trying to find some other way to get what she wanted by now, probably. Still, words of encouragement were generally appreciated, so he cheerfully said, "you can do it," as he thought of how to respond to what else she had said.
"Well, even though I'm currently helping them with rebuilding the docks, I kinda don't care much for the majority of the Pandas I've met, and the other gangs that would try to fight against them are stupid enough to deserve what's coming to them. You ever need a hand kicking some ass, lemme know. I'm surprisingly talented at asking things in a not nice way."

There was a brief hesitation as Canary recognized the sound as a chuckle. She kept her eyes on the screen, strands of slipping over the top edge of her goggle with a slight shake of her head.
"Someone asked me not too long ago what I thought about that sort of thing." Her fingers stilled, then the brunette pulled her fingers away from the keyboard to look at Geata with a thoughtful expression. I guess people will be whoever or whatever they are. Powers just add something more to the mix." They made it worse. Her lips quirked at his cheering, but it was no use. For now, teh security was above what she could do without wasting time they didn't have.
"We need to try something else." The dissatisfaction in her voice was tangible as Canary pulled away from the computer terminal, pausing to listen to whatever sounds would suggest teh guards were on their way to come foind her again. His words brought her smile back, the tip of her tongue pressing against the back of her teeth as she considered her options.
"We can try getting the physical footage. It's going to be less practical than your thoughts on street gangs; we have to go back downstairs." That same downstairs where footsteps and shouting could be heard. The echo was off-putting, but they would be able to tell that the guards had broken free regardless.
"Thanks for the offer. Let's get out of here first."

Geata raised an eyebrow when Canary told him about how superpowers was apparently a common subject for her. They 'add something to the mix', huh? Then the world just has terrible luck regarding who all got that secret ingredient. Not that everyone who got it was absolutely terrible. Even the ones that the world said were horrible monsters weren't all that bad, probably. It just seemed like there was a shortage of heroes, surprisingly. And the heroes it had seemed a little less than stellar, given their work ethic over the previous few weeks.
He blinked a few times and tried to focus on the task at hand. He couldn't afford to go off on a tangent, especially one that he wasn't even going to bother to vocalize. And hearing that they needed to head back downstairs made it clear that they didn't need to be discussing the philosophies of the distribution of powers. He sighed as he listened to the noises downstairs. Sounded like it would be a fight if they weren't extremely clever.
"So, judging by your previous reactions to my powers," he said as he slowly started to walk towards the stairs, "would you prefer if I didn't use them again unless absolutely necessary?"

Canary could only wonder what his silence meant after she had spoken. It wasn't the time or place for any meaningful discussion, not with agigtated security headed their way. It was hard to say what would come of something philosophical, though anything was possible . As it was, she ignored the raised brow in favor of escape. What, did he think she being foolish now?
"Yes." She nodded as they rounded their way to the stairase. They could hear the guards from above, but they seemed out of hte picture for now still. Probably because they weren't expecting a portal to swallow them up.
"Let's try not to cheat too much," she added with a grin.

Geata grinned at Canary's statement. No cheating, she said? That was fine, he supposed. It would make things more difficult, sure, but he needed to stop relying on his powers for everything anyway. If he used them for absolutely anything and everything, that would quickly become the equivalent of all he was, and that was definitely not what he wanted. He was determined to be more than 'that guy with the portals'.
"Alright, I'm fine with that," he said as he prepared to start running, should she start. "I'm assuming you have a plan? Or is your specialty 'winging' it?" He chuckled at his own joke for a moment while he waited for an answer.
