Unhallow's view of the battlefield was an unusual one. Instead of getting all of their sensory information in pieces like most people, they received all of their information at once. The feel of the sounds, the structure of the shapes, the way various body parts worked together to perform actions, feeling all of these things required only one sense to Unhallow and the information flooded their mind quickly. It had taken them some time to get used to it, but now that they had they could react to most situations before the person causing that situation even started to fully execute it.

In this case, they were quickly able to notice the odd movements from the wolf-like shape. The way it was moving while it was seeking out Eidolon suggested that it was not using its eyes to locate him. Even after Eidolon disappeared, the creature was able to follow him to some extent. This creature had some form of enhanced senses as well. Given the creature's shape, it wasn't that surprising. Unhallow paused again to push away the sinking feeling in their chest. Senses were easier to target than powers, and often had devastating effects on the victims. Normal humans were already very dependent on their senses, those with better senses generally relied on them even more. If they just disabled them this fight could easily go further in their favor, Unhallow just disliked doing that because of the levels of distress it normally caused. With any luck, the enemy heroes would finally get the hint and leave. Did they even have any reason to be fighting right now?

Unhallow hit all their senses, with the exception of their sense of touch, at once. As always, the effects of their power was gradual. First they'd find their vision blurry, as though they were going to need glasses, then it would deteriorate further until they couldn't see anything at all. Their hearing and sense of smell and taste would react similarly. Sounds might seem more distant, smells would be harder to pick out, until that sense was completely gone. It would take several minutes for the full effect to take hold, they might even finish fighting before the enemy heroes were completely blind and deaf even if they didn't run away.

Accumulation (Enhancement) against Accumulation (Information)

For some reason, Blue Jay was feeling the beginning of a headache. Weird.

His initial reaction was to continue after the first guy; put pressure on him, but if they focused on a single person, they’d be opening themselves to be caught off guard by the others. His safest option was to attack another of the opponents now. Hopefully they wouldn’t be expecting it.

One of the two other supers had made themself more obvious; they would be his target.

Speed would be they key. Sword angled forward, Blue Jay took a single step toward the black-suited super, vanished, and reappeared before them. On arriving, his movements sped up, allotting time for two strikes; first a quick jab to the stomach. The blade sung a high note with the maneuver. This first action had been planned before his jump, but as he pulled the blade back and prepared for the next, he noticed something about his foe. The lumps beneath their suit - was that armour? Blue Jay’s sword was pretty good at cutting through things, able to slice through materials a normal blade couldn’t like butter, but he knew little about this super (whose identity he couldn’t even call to mind, a fact that was bugging him). He’d play it safe. The aim of his second attack, a swipe to the side, shifted the blade’s aim to where looked to have the thinnest armour on their arm, based on a moment’s impression that was basically “that’s lower than the surrounding area”. He couldn’t actually see what was under the black suit, so as far as he could tell, he was swinging at a thin sheet of steel.

Sadly, his mental reaction time wasn’t keeping up with his arms. As much as he’d like to hit the optimal area, he hadn’t the skill to change the swing’s already planned course by much. A hack to the upper arm it would be. He’d have to rely on luck and the blade’s strength.

Action: Maneuver (Speed) against Unhallow

They shook their head, gnashing their fangs irritably, no way, this wouldn't stop them! The gathered their legs, and shot forward, faster than any human could run.

They twisted around the trees, suddenly leaping toward girl who hadn't done anything yet, assuming she was on the villain's side. A paw capable of crushing trees shot toward her.

Action: Maneuver Speed against Unhallow

"But, you know," He mused, tilting his head thoughtfully to the side. "Attacking an unarmed stranger in the middle of the night? When their back is turned, no less. That doesn't seem very heroic does it?"

Whether the words hit some part of the hero's ego or not, didn't matter. Eidolon could manipulate people's emotions by more subtle means. Pull at those feelings of insecurity, fear, even anger and you could tip a fight in your favor. It didn't always work exactly as planned of course, but Eidolon was willing to take that risk. If they were going to be the main target of possibly two attackers, then it would be beneficial to through one of them off even further. "You're not very good at your job, are you?"

There were upsides and downsides to Unhallow's sensory ability. Sure, it was nice to have a near perfect view of the battlefield, but there was often little she could do with that information. This was one of those times. The enemy heroes started charging towards them at such great speed that, even though Unhallow knew the attack was coming, however their body wasn't capable of moving quickly enough to actually get out of the way. It was quite a troublesome situation. Worse than the fact that the enemy heroes were inevitably going to beat the tar out of them, was that those heroes would also be in melee range of them if they were reading the situation correctly. This could get just as unpleasant for the enemy heroes as it definitely would for Unhallow. With a sigh, they jumped slightly, just enough to get their feet off the ground, moved their arms just enough to take the worst of the attacks, and was promptly thrown across the park until a lone tree had the misfortune of getting in their way.

A mechanical grunt vibrated from the mouth piece of their helmet as they flew through the air, and once more once they hit the tree. Mission accomplished, the enemy heroes shouldn't have been dangerously close to her long enough to feel anything more than muscle fatigue and numbness. The vibrations of several cracks erupted from their armor, some large some small. It protected them from the worst of the attack, but a fragment embedded itself into their arm. They had the wind knocked out of them, but it didn't feel like anything was broken. Their arm hurt like hell, but that was okay, they didn't need that arm right now. For a moment, Unhallow remained on the ground, motionless, their head drooping a bit. Unhallow considered just sitting there and letting the enemy heroes think they were dead or something. It's not like they needed to move to do anything. Sadly, such an action would likely hurt more than it would help. They figured that the enemy heroes would either focus all their energy at Eidolon at this point, which would defeat the purpose of joining the fight in the first place, or approach Unhallow to verify their physical state, which would not end well for them. Once they regained their bearings, a mechanical cough emanated from their helmet, though with how distorted the sound was it sounded more like a buzz. Then, they rose to their feet, pulling the splintered piece of armor out of their arm.

"Do not approach me."

The command was stern, but that was the only hint of emotion in their words. The rest was drowned out by how distorted and mechanical Unhallow's voice sounded. They suspected the enemy heroes wouldn't listen, possibly choosing to taunt them with some witty retort instead, but it was still important to let the enemy heroes know. If nothing else, it at least made them feel better about themselves, and that actually meant something here. They could already feel the adrenaline pumping through them, their heart pumping more than they would like. Even calming themselves a little was important here.

Lobisomem blinked heavily, a clear feeling filling their ears and eyes. As their eyes opened up, almost absolute darkness met their gaze. Blinded.

They were blinded.

No, no, no! When were their eyes hit!? They struggled to control their breathing as they raised their ears to discover another horrible truth, they were deafened.

They swung their head and tapped Blue Jay, sincerely hoping that he wasn't incapacitated like themselves.

For once, one of Blue Jay’s attacks had gone off almost exactly as planned. His abilities didn’t stop suddenly, no one kicked his sword out of his hands, and nothing hampered the full power of the blow. It was almost like a miracle. Moreover, he and his teammate had done a number on the targeted super. Confidence was overcoming the shaky feeling of adrenaline. They might actually pull this off.

While he had so rudely run off to fight the other super, the man had addressed him. “What?” Blue Jay called over his shoulder. Still, he’d caught most of the man’s words and, - this was the problem - he had a point. Blue Jay had attacked him out of nowhere and without warning, without bothering with questions or even checking if the guy was even a super. For a moment, he felt his grip falter. He’d been acting on assumptions. What if the guy had turned out to be a normal person? What if the blade hadn’t failed in its attack? He could have just killed a civilian.

He shook the doubt from his mind. He’d thought about all that before going in for the strike. And, he hadn’t been wrong, had he? That’s what mattered. Though some small part of him still clung to the weakness of his argument, Blue Jay took a deep breath and refocused on the battle.

Was it just him, or was his vision a little off? He felt like he’d drank too much coffee, or, more likely in his case, needed some. Blue Jay blinked his eyes, his vision reacting very much like he’d just gotten out of bed. This was starting to get really strange. How long had passed and he was already feeling fatigued? He was a little injured, yes, but fine, mostly. Perhaps this was the cause of some superpower, and not actually him. Come to think of it, he hadn’t actually seen the black-clad super do anything. Who were they? He’d have to do some serious research once this was over.

He knew even less of the other guy. While Blue Jay felt an inkling of recognition of the black-clad super, he knew nothing of their original foe. Who, come to think of it, wasn’t even wearing a mask. There were few supers who did that, and he was more prone to remembering odd cases like those. Maybe they’d caught him, a random, usually mask-wearing super, off guard? No, he was acting far too collected for that to be the case.

But that was a worry for later. For now, he had to make his next move.

Eidolon clicked his tongue in annoyance as he watched the hero and his dog, both of which had rushed past him to attack Unhallow before Eidolon had even finished speaking. Perhaps they were smarter than they seemed. Or maybe they just assumed the super in a suit of armor would be more the more dangerous foe. In a sense, it was not an incorrect observation. Unhallow's powers were far more deadly than Eidolon's; however, deep down, the poor dear lacked the will to use them to their fullest potential. Eidolon, on the other hand, had no such reservations when it came to hurting others.

"Bored of our conversation already? Shame," he mused, resting his hands in the pockets of his coat. The new positioning of their little battlefield actually worked well enough for him. The two heroes remained between them, and Eidolon got a bit more distance from her ally. Unhallow was incredibly useful to have around, but it was only a matter of time before Eidolon would begin to feel the effects of their presence as well. His arm was beginning to throb where the bird's sword had met his skin, not that anyone assembled could see the cut in his coat or the blood trickling down his arm. The last thing he needed right now was an extra headache. A bit of distance between the two Keepers was all well and good. Hopefully, Unhallow had not taken too much damage to accomplish it. "And, here I thought I was the one you were fighting."

That last attack had been unpleasant, but Unhallow couldn't be all that disappointed with how everything was turning out. They weren't sure how many more hits like that they'd be able to take, but they wouldn't really have to worry about it either. By this point, they probably suppressed most of the enemy heroes' useful powers, so Eidolon should be able to take it from here. There was just one thing left to do: prevent something like that from happening again.

By this point, they had given up all hope that either team would run. It was rare that Unhallow did this to anyone they weren't chasing, but it should work just as effectively against anyone that relied heavily on their speed. Their power touched the enemy heroes' muscles, causing them to slowly decay as well. The effects would start as cramps and fatigue, and after a little while their bodies just wouldn't move quite right at all. Unhallow could probably make it worse than that, but they hoped they would be long gone before anything worse happened. The last thing they wanted to cause was that kind of serious permanent damage, but from what they could tell they should be fine as long as none of their organs outright died.

Maybe now the sword would be a bit more willing to work on this swing. Blue Jay took the man’s taunt - that part of the man’s goals had worked, and Blue Jay wasn’t about to let that last comment of his slide - and jumped from where he stood into the man’s melee (or, as may be the case, failed to teleport and, after a moment of surprise, sprinted at him all the same). Sword raised, he smiled slyly at his foe, and when he spoke, his tone was quiet but proud. “I think I’m doing a great job.” He said, and swung his sword downward.

The plan was to try again with a shock wave centered on the blade’s impact. Of course, his sword wouldn’t be any more willing than before, as it was the interference of the other super’s powers that was the cause of the problem. This would be a strike to the top of the shoulder like any other, but a blade, explosive or not, could still hurt.

Action: Aggression (Destruction) against Eidolon

This fight was beginning to grow tiresome. Eidolon was not built for open conflict, and this fight was not going quite as much in the Keepers favor as he would have liked. If they managed to focus down Unhallow, Eidolon would be left much more vulnerable. He could run easily enough, of course. But, he doubted be able to carry an unconscious Unhallow with him very far. Losing such a valuable asset was not an option. Running away now put a bad taste in his mouth as well. Despite it's insignificance in the grand scheme of things, this was not a fight he wanted to loose.

Luckly, the hits their enemies had landed were double edged. If their senses were already beginning to face, that was something Eidolon could work with. It was so much easier to trick senses when they were dulled, not that Eidolon had much trouble with tricking normal human's in their prime. He remained relatively unmoving, as he dreamed up non-existent enemies for the little bird to fight. Shadows would suffice. His vision was likely beginning to blur anyway. Dark wolfish shadows with big long claws, to jump from the bushes to rush toward him. Of course, only Blue Jay would see them. And if Eidolon pulled at his fear and doubt a bit more, perhaps the hero would balk.

Lobisomem gritted their fangs as they tried to remember where everyone was, no good, without senses, they couldn't locate anything.

Fine. They tapped Blue Jay one last time to ascertain his location, and went absolutely insane.

They swung their tail to discover they had knocked over a tree, their claws tore up chunks of earth, and finally their fangs rushed toward a girl they didn't even know they were attacking.

Eidolon grunted as the blade tore into his shoulder. While he had attempted to sidestep the attack, the hero was faster than him even with Unhallow slowing him down. He was almost certain he would be short an arm if the boy was at his full strength. Eidolon was not much more durable than a non-powered being, but at least the hero would not see him bleed. An onlooker would only see the tear through his coat, though he could clearly feel his shirt growing damp. The bird would see blood on his sword later, of course, but by then they would be long gone.

Eidolon chuckled, reaching up to grab the sword before the boy could pull it away. It would slice his hand open, surely, but that didn't seem to matter in the heat of the moment. Adrenaline was numbing the pain.

"It seems we may need to act a bit more rashly, love." The words came soft and quiet below his breath, but Unhallow would still hear them even over the thrashing of the dog. Eidolon's ally had a softer heart than a Keeper should, but they would not sit by and allow them both to die. This fight would end soon, one way or another, but even if the heroes won the day it would be at a cost.

"Are you?" Eidolon asked. "Tell me, what exactly are you accomplishing here tonight?" He lifted his gaze to meet Blue Jays eyes, memorized every feature he could see of the boy's face. He would remember that face. Even if they lost this fight, it would not be the end of this. "What crime have you stopped? Who have you saved?" Eidolon did not even see a point in this fight, other than the obvious self preservation. It served no other purpose than to ruin his night, it seemed. The only great loss he would truly take was to his pride, but even that was unforgivable. "Do you even know who you're fighting?"

Blue Jay wasn’t really used to stuff messing with his head. The black-clad super’s powers had thrown him for a loop, and he assumed the odd fatigue he was feeling, and his eyes - among other senses - that had only gotten more blurred, and his previous failure to speed forward as per usual, could be contributed to them. Perhaps, if their powers worked thusly, they would sense an extra about in his mind; a small green block set within a structure made of blue blocks, as Blue Jay sometimes envisioned it, which was, at this point, doing the equivalent of throwing its arms up into the air and yelling “I’ve no idea what to do with all this”.

Perhaps the man would feel it there when his powers came to affect Blue Jay. A wall came up in his mind - not something that one’s average person could create, but not strong enough to block the full of the attack. Shadows formed on the edge of the hero’s vision, large, frightening, and to him, quite threatening. His eyes darted between the shadows and the man before him. One got too close and he jumped a little, letting out a startled yelp, knuckles growing white on the hilt of the sword. It was less, though, than he would’ve experienced had the block not been there.

A large shadow caught his eye and his breath caught in his throat. Sharp claws glistened, eyes gleamed with the intent of blood. He forced himself to swallow. It was nothing more than an illusion; he had to remain focused on his foe. Blue Jay made himself narrow in on the man. He wanted to take the sword out, go in for another strike, but the man’d grabbed the blade. He could feel the restriction of the man’s hand on the weapon’s movement. He put a slight pressure put put downward on the blade, illusions pushed to the edge of his vision. But he would have nightmares tonight.

His eyes narrowed. Just a little more. “Has it crossed your mind that I don’t always fight for the sake of others? I’m fighting you.” He said simply. “Tell me, are those little tricks all you got?” His voice was light, but it cracked. “Let go, or the sword’s going in farther.” He said cheerfully.

Like the illusions, Blue Jay forced his reasons to the side of his mind, sure to be dug up again when the night was lonely.

Even though Unhallow expected the enemy heroes to ignore her completely, it still took all their effort not to rub their forehead and scream at the creature for doing so. To make matters worse, they were having to move around quite a bit. Unhallow always tried to minimize their movements to avoid putting too much strain on their body, but having to dance around this creature's attacks was starting to tire them out. They were breathing more heavily, they could feel their heart rate going up, it could be dangerous.

The worst part was, they still weren't sure what the purpose of all this was. They had been careful about avoiding causing too much damage, but the enemy heroes were doing a terrible job in that department. Unhallow knew very little about what the enemy heroes wanted to accomplish, but it seemed Eidolon had some idea. She may not have been entirely right given the sword wielder's response, but if he really did want to protect the city he really should be more careful. The fact that Unhallow had somehow caused less damage than this duo was appalling.

Eidolon's words made their heart sink. Looking around, Unhallow knew that she was right on some level. The creature was in obvious distress, the sword wielder was starting to cut into Eidolon, allowing this situation to continue any further would just hurt everyone more in the end. It was time to end it one way or another.

Predictably, Lobisomem started feeling worse and worse. Their body felt weighty and a horrible sense of desperation started to flood their head, get away, away!

Their heart pounded as they circled in place, making a futile attempt to see through anything, just one little thing!

This ended now, whether it be themselves or their enemy, it was over!

If the man did not heed his advice and let go of the sword fast enough, Blue Jay would put his weight into the blade. Most swords would likely be stuck where it was, with the need of another swing to go in further. The sword hummed like a string on a violin, and it seemed to shake ever so slightly. Like a chainsaw, no force behind a swing was necessary to deepen the cut. Blue jay need only apply strength, which - weakened as it may be - would likely be enough.

The man would still be the target of the hero’s attack, even if he did let go. He would pull the blade back and made a forward jab at the man’s other shoulder. If possible, he wanted to avoid chest injuries. He may not have a good reason for fighting, but killing - as unlikely as it was for supers such as themselves - was about the last thing it’d be.

Aggression (Destruction) against Eidolon

Lobisomem got a grip on the ground, tucking their haunches in as they entered a pouncing stance.

They simply flew off the ground, spreading their body to crush any unsuspecting villains beneath their considerable bulk.

Action: Aggression Destruction against Eidolan

"How very heroic of you," Eidolon replied. He allowed his gaze to drift past the hero to his ally behind him. The beast had begun to thrash about so wildly in it's attempts to attack Unhallow that it almost appeared to have a grudge against foliage. He didn't know how well the beast's senses were still working, but it had been foolish enough to stay close to Unhallow. That was something Eidolon could use. Perhaps it would be wisest to deal with the opponent slicing into his arm, but this fight was going south for them. If he was going to loose, he would make them suffer for it. "Does that mean you'll abandon your friend?"

Whatever minuscule amount of sense the beast still had would work against it now. Four dark walls would lift up to encase the creature. Eidolon could not make them solid, but constraints on the mind were just as dangerous. If a creature believes there are walls all around them, they are much easier to hold in place. It should have run from Unhallow when it had the chance.

Action: Aggression (Confinement) against Lobisomem

One of the enemy heroes listened to her at least. The other one was...pretending to be a lawn mower. With the destructive potential of the creature's attacks limited, Unhallow wasn't that worried about themselves, but there was this issue that the creature got close to them again. Doing so was a terrible idea, especially with how stressed Unhallow was already. Fights always did that, and no amount of centering or meditation helped so far. Maybe they'd get used to it eventually, but for now, the creature's course of action meant pain at best.

With another sigh, and a bit of effort dodging the worst of the creature's attacks, Unhallow stopped redirecting a bit more of their energy into the ground and allowed it to go where it pleased. The creature's body would gradually start failing, slowly rotting from the inside out. Unhallow's targets normally started feeling anemic shortly after they did this, from losing blood without bleeding. It only got worse from there, but maybe this time the creature would take their advice and not get close.

Blue Jay and Lobisomem have reached 100% combat advantage. The villains' wounds are adding up, and they don't have much choice other than to fall back and yield the battlefield to the heroes. All participants gain 10 Notoriety for their part in the battle!

1. Chase off the Keepers, then leave without a trace, allowing the night's events to remain a mystery to those who find the signs of battle in the morning.
The city's superpowered factions will be more careful about engaging unaligned supers in the future, leaving them to their own devices.
Effect: +3 Unaligned Prestige

2. Roar your defiance to the night, and allow the Bulwark hero to claim this as a victory for the good guys.
Reports of this event will increase the populace's confidence in the superheroes that defend them.
Effect: +15 Bulwark Prestige, +3 Unaligned Prestige

3. Stand down and allow the Keepers to escape.
Displaying your power without making any serious attempts to hurt them in the long-term will send a clear message.
Effect: +10 additional Notoriety each and for Lobisomem and Blue Jay
Effect: Lobisomem and Blue Jay also get the condition "The Keepers Respect Your Prowess," unknown consequences

4. Release the battle's built-up tension by going on a destructive rampage!
The hero, whether he likes it or not, will be implicated in the incident.
Effect: +25 additional Notoriety each for Lobisomem and Blue Jay

As the scheme leader, Lobisomem gets the final choice.

Lobisomem stumbled and backed away, struggling to open their eyes wide enough to see. They had won...they won! No doubt the villains were more messed up than Blue Jay and themselves were.

Their bones creaked uncomfortably as they padded to Blue Jay and straightened their legs to tower over all the humanoids. They could hurt, really hurt them right now. It would just take a flick of the paw or jaws.

And yet...

Lobisomem stood stock still and lowered their head, opening their jaws as if to crunch down on the nearest person, "Go." The words creaked and strained, as if Lobisomem's voice had never been used till this moment, but the word was clear.

Their eyes were cold and their head was close enough to get the message across that this wasn't a draw, they were leaving on Lobisomem's mercy, they would leave it to their imagination what their wrath would look like.

(Taking the third option, we want to see those "consequences"!)

The creature finally stopped thrashing. Both Unhallow and Eidolon were in terrible positions, and Unhallow wasn't sure how much longer they could keep this up. It had been some time since they exerted themselves this much, and their endurance was clearly suffering for it. Fortunately, it looked like the fight was done. The creature was letting them leave, and while Unhallow wasn't sure if Eidolon would accept that or not, they hoped that their ally would understand it was probably the best course of action to take given the disadvantageous position they were in.

Still breathing heavily, Unhallow turned their back on the enemy heroes and continued to head back to the sanctum as they were before this fight. Unhallow still had a full view of the area thanks to their senses, so if the enemy heroes tried to do anything they would notice fairly quickly. As it stood, it really did look like they were free to go though. Unhallow took one last look at the area, not that it was obvious given they also continued walking off. There were a few dead patches of grass on the ground, and they could make out a crack running up the tree they hit when they were knocked across the park, but that looked like the extent of the damage they caused to the park. All the broken trees, disheveled bushes, and holes in the ground were all created by the enemy heroes that attacked them for what felt like no reason at all. Such a waste.

After Unhallow took a few more steps, they suddenly stopped and turned around again. A few drops of blood fell from their fingertips because of their injured arm. They began speaking with their artificial sounding voice, though it wasn't clear exactly who they were talking to.

"You and your friend will recover. There is no need to worry or seek out help. Just rest for a little while."

With that, Unhallow turned and continued their journey to the sanctum once more. They just hoped that the person that repaired her armor wouldn't mind them coming in for a second time today.
