Darkness. Shift. Hunger and blood. Lobisomem blinked as they entered a much more familiar form, sniffing the air curiously. Despite the fact that they're stomach cried out for something, anything, to feed on, that wasn't their goal tonight. The moon shined down on the roaming beast, letting a studying eye catch sight of Lobisomem. Tonight, people would wonder about them, tonight, they would do something worthwhile. A determination had settled in their chest, they had heard of horrible deeds done to simple civilians, with no defenses to speak of. They had seen the poor people injured or crying, they had even seen some heroes actually lose a fight pretty badly, and there was only one thing Lobisomem could do to actually help. A jagged smirk split their face, a hunt for true villains would be fun, and possibly prove they weren't a mindless beast. Lobisomem's eyes burned as they searched for movement, jerking their head towards any movement, be it another night wanderer, or their chosen prey.

The park was not Eidolon's preferred area of operation, but it did have it's advantages. The added seclusion made it a prime location for more...sensitive endeavors, and jobs like this were best done far away from prying eyes and sharp ears. After all, the near silence that made Viridian so appealing to park goers worked both ways. Just as the hustle of Emerald City's night life seemed distant and washed out, so to were the screams muffled to the citizens back in civilization. Eidolon rolled his eyes as he watched the man before him squirm about, swatting at non-existent attackers. For a brief moment he contemplated ending the idiots life right there, to put his pathetic existence out of its misery. That would cause more trouble than it was worth, though. As troublesome as the informant had been, Eidolon could still get some use out of him in the coming weeks. A snap of Eidolon's fingers and the shadows that tormented the man vanished before his eyes.
"Have we reached an understanding?" Eidolon asked, his voice smooth and low. The mixture of hatred and fear in the informants eyes was oddly satisfying. His only response was a hurried nod. He'd likely be trouble again later, but Eidolon would deal with that when the time came. The super waved his hand dismissively. "Then go. Now."
Eidolon waited for the informant's figure to fade into the night before allowing a sigh to escape his lips. A pale hand reached up to run through short black hair. Thick eyebrows knitted together in frustration. It was always frustrating when a good informant went rogue. He would likely have to get rid of the man soon before he gave away anything too sensitive to another party. That was a job for another night, however. Eidolon had other things to take care of first. This was all the more true upon the realization that he was no longer alone. Somewhere in the darkness had come an unusual sound, the sound of something bothersome.
A lazy grin fell across his lips as he turned in the direction of the noise. When he spoke, his tone was polite, almost friendly. "Is there something I can help you with?"

There were places that were just too full of life and yet were the most perfect of places to hide away. For the black and white feline, this park had been his hiding place since dawn that morning. He'd sat in a tree, waiting and watching. Observing passerby after passerby... Joggers, walkers, pet owners, families, the park even held its own usually unseen community of bums. Most of which didn't return to the park until after all the 'ordinary people' left. That wasn't for a long time however, much closer toward dusk and long after the sun had been hidden by the artificial mountains called buildings. Between the people and creatures roaming one of the few natural places within the city's boundaries, it wasn't dull for him. Not anymore. It probably would never be again no matter how many times the sounds met his ears.
By dusk or nightfall, it had grown quiet. The insects began their chirping and the few bums had begun to check the place out - some leaving once more for a few more hours or so when they knew all the people would be gone. Too bad for them that just wasn't going to be the case this night. At least, not if what Poltergeist heard was true. One ear flicked idly within its little space under his hood, the feline himself shifting ever so slightly on that chosen branch as an unnatural noise pierced through the night song. It almost sounded like something heavy was snapping the twigs, something much bigger than your average stray or human... The chirps slowly died out which accentuated that fact.
But that wasn't what caught his eyes. Oh no, within the incoming darkness; the feline's single revealed eye flickered over toward a rather... threatening voice. Unfamiliar but clearly threatening. Wait... was it unfamiliar? He couldn't quite remember. Either way there was no pity for the fool who could only quiver and shake at a clearly non-threatening looking persona. At the very least Poltergeist wasn't impressed. But then, Poltergeist wasn't your average human. Or human at all. Like that shadow that came closer to that wannabe thug, with all its heavy breaths and unpleasant stench.
For now he would sit and wait. Watching, as he always did.

Blue Jay was being sneaky. When he first began heroing, he didn't think that this would be a skill he'd have to develop; it was weird to think about for a hero as “smashy” as him. In actuality, it was common practice for him to move about as quietly about as he could; habit, even. Getting seen first, be it by police, villains, or some random know-it-all civilian, brought along a whole slew of problems that really were best avoided if at all possible. So, forgoing the paths and open areas of the park, Blue Jay had spent the majority of his evening patrol in the shadows of the trees and their branches.
The weird part of tonight was the location; in the city, it was easy to move from rooftop to rooftop without fear of being seen or heard with the constant white noise of the streets and lights. In Viridian, especially the back corners of the park like the one in which he currently resided, this was not the case. The sound of cars were far off - the only lights were those on distant skyscrapers and the lampposts that followed the trail. Blue Jay had to tread even more lightly than usual here. People of all kinds and motivations would be on the lookout for humanoid masses in the darkness. He stuck to the larger, stronger trees, with the lowest branches too high to jump to and too thick to give much sway when his 150ish pounds arrived suddenly upon it, and to ground that wouldn’t crunch when he stepped down. He could never go too far with a single sudden jump and had to give at least some pause after each to plan his next. It was slow moving, but that was kind of the point.
Blue Jay was hoping for a quiet evening. He’d gotten into a nasty fight earlier in the week, and even after two days of skipping class for sleep, was still feeling some of the remnants. Most of the damage was gone, thankfully. Only a slight iching in his eyes and the closed stab wound in his back lingered. Even so, he was totally fine with not destroying any buildings tonight. He could fight and would probably do a fine job at it (and in some ways, after two days of doing nothing, was ready to get back into the action), but he’d purposefully picked out a haunting location he deemed less likely to result in a large-scale battle. Parks were peaceful, right?
This was not destined to be a calm night, however. Blue Jay landed on his most recent tree and paused. He heard the voice but couldn’t locate the connected face, neither on the ground nor in his mind. He had to get closer.
This jump was shorter, only two trees ahead. It would be all he needed to see the person’s - or actually, two people’s silhouettes, thirty feet and one more tree away. The branch’s response was no louder than if someone had set his weight gently down on it, as it essentially had been. Blue Jay made it only in time to get the tail end of the exchange, but to him, the message was clear. His hand moved to the hilt over his shoulder.
The thought crossed his mind that maybe he was jumping to conclusions. Regardless, his thoughts countered, he should at least go check things out. Ounce of prevention and all that. The hero prepared himself to make his move; plotted his course, tightened his grip on the hilt.
And then the figure turned ninety degrees of where Blue Jay crouched, and began to speak to someone else. The moment - and his chance for a proper entrance - had been lost. Well, maybe this is a good thing, his mind spoke up. He could observe a bit more. After all, what could he say to someone who asked him why he’d picked a fight with this random guy? He was talking threateningly to someone in the distant parts of the park in the middle of the night? That was cause for suspicion, not laceration.
Not that he was going to start a fight if one wasn’t in order. But if there just so happened to be a need for one, he wasn't about to complain. Bring it on.

There were many downsides to the way Unhallow walked. They had completed their mission hours ago, as it was just a simple retrieval mission. However, they had to walk across the city to get back to the Keeper's base, and they still refused to run or exert themselves too much to get there. It's not like buses would be willing to let a known supervillain (as those that did not understand termed them) hitch a ride either, so Unhallow was stuck walking across the city to return the Malachite Isle. Sometimes they wished the sanctum was somewhere a little more convenient.
They opted to stick to the back roads, and the less crowded areas of the city. Once again, there were problems with 'supervillains' walking down the sidewalk with civilians, and Unhallowed had no interest in fighting if it could be avoided. It wasted too much energy, put everyone at too much risk. If there was no greater purpose for it, it was best to be avoided. However, it felt like they would not be so lucky tonight.
Their senses picked up a couple of familiar shapes, and a couple of unfamiliar shapes. Two of their teammates in close proximity. Unhallowed was unable to tell if they were working together on something or not, their positions were too ambiguous. The other two shapes nearby weren't ones they recognized, but both were obviously threatening. One was inhuman, but clearly alive, clearly watching. That shape's teeth were bared, like a wolf's. It was threatening, though Unhallowed couldn't tell exactly what this shape was threatening. The other was carrying a weapon, and had a hand on it, ready to draw it. It was unclear if the two unfamiliar shapes were working together, they were merely looking in the same direction in a threatening way.
Unhallow had no intention of allowing any harm to come to their allies. Hopefully, they were misreading the situation, as unlikely as that seemed. However, protecting their allies was a worthy cause, and something they would fight for if necessary. For now, they tried to maintain a safe distance, trying to put the threatening shapes between them and their allies. Once they were in position, they stood in one place, motionless. They would not be the one to make the first move, but they could certainly make their presence known if it became necessary.

Lobisomem froze as sounds suddenly erupted around them, what would sound like rustles to human ears sounded like everyone around them wasn't even trying to be quiet.
Their sharp eyes caught a glimpse of some civilian darting away, smelling of blood and pain. As they looked for the civilian's attacker, they spotted a familiar person.
They recognized the sword and everything, Blue Jay, the hero that had left the fight at the jewelry shop in the worst state. They gave a little barking sound that they hoped sounded friendly in his direction, what a coincidence! Well, they did want to help out those heroes, here they could fulfill that!
A little confidence earned, they started toward the sounds.

The first thing Eidolon noticed was the bark. While it wasn't a particularly aggressive sound, there was something unnatural about it that suggested he wasn't dealing with an ordinary dog. The creature that entered his vision seconds later confirmed that suspicion. What exactly the thing was supposed to be, he couldn't say for sure. A dog? A lizard? Some abominable mixture of the two? Not that it really mattered. All that really mattered was the creature's aggressive posture as it moved toward him. If the sound it had made before was meant to be friendly, it certainly wasn't aimed at Eidolon. That was his first indication that they were not alone.
Keeping a casual posture, Eidolon glanced about in search of the beasts possible ally. He was sure he spotted at least two figures hidden within the nearby trees, though the darkness hid any details of their features. They were humanoid at least, but he didn't allow his eyes to linger on them long enough to discern much else. The familiar silhouette in the distance was much easier to identify, though he looked past it just as quickly. No need to ruin that little surprise.
Eidolon turned his attention to the lizard-dog, acting as though he hadn't noticed the other's gathered about them. He chuckled, folding gloved hands behind his back and taking two calm steps backward. "This isn't going to be a friendly encounter, is it?" he asked, with a slow shake of his head. "How unfortunate for you."

The fact that there was going to be a confrontation was obvious when Unhallow got there, but on some level they hoped it was just a misunderstanding. People got tense for no reason right? Sometimes maybe? That hope went away when they felt the inhuman shape's muscles tense. There were very few movements that could be made with that pattern. Sure enough, the creature took off towards Unhallow's allies. Part of them still hoped it was a coincidence, but they couldn't count on that at this point. They could feel Eidolon's voice move through the air as well. A fight was inevitable at this point.
A lump formed in their throat. They very quickly took a deep breath to calm down. Fighting was still a very new experience to them, one they weren't sure if they would ever get used to. However, getting nervous here wouldn't help anything. If anything, it would just make everything worse. They took a few more deep breaths as they felt their heart rate go back to normal. They had to focus, this was important. No matter what, Unhallow would not let their allies get hurt.
So what were they supposed to do? They had no knowledge of the threatening shapes' capabilities, and going all out in this situation seemed excessive and unnecessarily dangerous to even their own allies. Unhallow took another deep breath. They just had to start at the beginning. Hiding seemed like a good idea at first. Hiding meant that it was unlikely the enemies would get to close, but it might also mean that their allies would move towards her. That might be bad. In the end, they had to prioritize their allies over the enemies. Slowly, Unhallow emerged from the bushes they were in. The darkness of the park would still make them difficult to spot, but hopefully this would be enough? Their presence would likely be obvious to their allies soon enough anyway.

A bark caught the hero’s attention. Blue Jay liked to think of himself as a dog person; his parents had had one, a big yellow lab, and while it was a bit of a disservice to compare the bark to that of that dog’s, the message of a friendly hello - or something along those lines - was clear. He searched around for the source, and when he found them, the allyship was all but cemented. Blue Jay recognized this super. Or, not “Blue Jay”, technically, but he did know them, and he knew they were friendly. They were also now the focus of the conversationalist.
The fellow below was correct. He’d given enough threatening words to denote himself as not only more than a civilian, but one who likely held bad motives. What kind of civilian didn’t run from a gigantic wolf? And for that matter, what kind of civilian, or even good-natured person, made ominous threats to said wolf?
The shadows betrayed more presences. Two. He couldn’t make out shapes or any hints at identity, let alone alignment. Friendly or not, Blue Jay had to assume the latter, and counting Lobisomem, they were outnumbered. Here’s to hoping there weren’t others. It's true he’d lost a 3v2 in his favor before, but the numbers meant this would still be a tough fight. If another showed up, they’d be in serious trouble. Though his teammate seemed to be preoccupied, Blue Jay gave Lobisomem a friendly thumbs-up, hopefully confirming to them his aid. They’d have to work together if they were going to pull this off.
Centering his balance and planning his attack, Blue Jay drew his longsword.

Lobisomem grumbled in a series of growls to themselves as the man interfered with their hearing, the shadows offering only a glimpse to the others presence.
Still, even a glimpse wouldn't stop Lobisomem. Besides, the more pressing problem was the strange ache that ran up and down their skull, especially potent to the beast-like Super.
They hurried in Blue Jay's direction, he could probably attack better with a Super watching his back.

The hero braced himself for the rush of air soon to follow. Except, it didn’t. The sword swung, yes, all good, but the shock wave didn’t fire. The hero blinked. “What..?” For a moment his grip loosened, and his brow furrowed at the blade. He gave the air a quick swipe. Nothing. He swatted the sword at the ground twice, muttering, “Now, of all times? The fight hasn’t even started!” Nothing, nothing.
Blue Jay let out a loud sigh. Fine, he’d just have to fight a different way. But he'd just lost the bulk of his fire power, and he'd walked into this fight without thinking, or come to think of it, a really good reason. Now he felt surrounded and while his teammate by his side helped alleviate some of his nervousness, Blue Jay wasn’t feeling good about their odds.
His heart was already picking up the pace. Well, he’d gotten himself into this mess, and now he was going to fight his way out of it. No point in complaining. He’d just have to make due.
"Evening!" Blue Jay shouted. There was no longer any point to being quiet, but he kept his posture tense and ready. "What a coincidence to bump into all of you, out here in the middle of the park, of all places!"

He had expected the beast standing before him to be the one to charge in for an attack. Instead, the creature scurried back into the shadows nearly as quickly as it had appeared. Eidolon was uncertain whether it had been the surprise of being wrong or the wretched cry the creature made shortly after it's retreat that broke his concentration. Or, perhaps it was the sudden attack by one of the tree dwellers. It was hard to tell, but it hardly mattered in the heat of battle.
Eidolon caught a flash of blue and black from the corner of his eyes, felt a slight sting in his left arm. He recoiled instinctively, stepping to his side as her turned to face the second attacker. He recognized the hero immediately. He had been involved in a recent Pandemonium incident, if Eidolon recalled correctly. That fight hadn't gone very well for the Bulwark heroes. It seemed he wasn't having very good luck with this one either. By the look of confusion on the poor bird's face, Unhollow's abilities were already taking effect. Eidolon took this opportunity to take several steps backward, putting some distance between himself and Blue Jay. Even without whatever power he had planned to use, the hero still had a sword. Being cut to pieces did not sound appealing.
"It is quite the coincidence, isn't it?" Eidolon replied, in a pleasant tone. His lips twisted into a smile once again. "And on such a nice night, too."

Unhallow could feel that connection in the enemy heroes' brains start to decay. It was a small connection, so it didn't take much time at all for people to find it difficult to use their powers properly. Given some effort the enemy heroes could probably manage, but based on the shape with the sword's movement, something unexpected happened. It was probably a good thing that Unhallow started with the powers they were afraid would hurt the most. That could have been really bad for their teammate.
Now it was just a matter of figuring out what to do next. Their current position was probably okay, so no need to move yet. Unhallow's thoughts were interrupted by the feeling of a voice near one of the enemy heroes. Did they know each other? The downside to using their senses like this was that they couldn't make sense of a lot of the information known about the various heroes in the city. People would often describe them in terms of color and clothing, but those were the things Unhallow was worst at seeing. No one ever described them in terms of shape, volume, texture, muscle mass, or sound unless there was something particularly unusual about them in that regard. The sound of Eidolon's voice shook in front of him as well. Was now really an appropriate time to be talking about the weather? It seemed like there were more important things to worry about right now. Unhallow paused for a second as they started to piece together what was happening. This was banter wasn't it? Banter wasn't something they understood well, and this little back and forth didn't clear it up anymore. Unhallow mentally shook their head. This wasn't the time to get distracted.
Both the enemy heroes were together now, and Eidolon was a bit further away. That was good. Unhallow remained motionless as they reached for the enemy heroes with their power once more.
