Geata sighed as Jessica asked why he wasn't a Keeper. There were multiple reasons, but it'd be more trouble than it'd be worth to explain them. He thought for a moment before deciding on what he felt to be the best answer he could give.
"It's fine, honestly not that personal at all," he said thoughtfully. "In truth, I'm likely to join here before long. Right now, the only thing that's really keeping me from doing so is that I'm a careful buyer. I like to know what's in the fine print, so while I'm unaffiliated I'm hoping to do a little research. Who knows, maybe what I'll find out might even be of some use to the grunts who work the ground, like you and Azoth."

Poppet not really sure how to feel about the idea that Geata is considering to join the Keeper; he’s not much of a scary person after their short conversation, but she’s still feel slightly unease about him nonetheless.
“I-Is there a reason why you decided to join the Keeper?” She asked him.
She has some theory in mind about his reason of joining the Keeper, one of them being that he wants to hang around with Azoth. Even if he said the relationship between him and Azoth are strictly business, she doesn’t really trust his word on it that much. After all, why would he share his true feeling to a complete stranger that he just met? Jessica remained in her arm, not saying anything.
"I-I mean, what make you decided to join the Keeper rather than the other faction? I-Is it knowledge or power you're after? O-Or getting favor from influential people?"

Geata grinned slightly underneath his mask. He wasn't particularly keen on being interrogated, but it didn't matter much. She was well within her rights to ask, and he was somewhat curious as to a Keeper's reaction to his reasoning, even if he only intended give the basics behind his decision, instead of getting into every relevant detail.
"Simply put," he said, "it's the faction I could see myself doing the most with. Change is coming soon, I'd bet, and I refuse to be a bystander for it. The Keepers would provide me with the resources needed to make that happen. Throw in that I can help improve survival rates by getting everyone info on dragons, and there's no contest. The Bulwarks are good and all, but they've done little to actually improve anything. And the Pandas are a confusing mess, not to mention I doubt I could follow Aurora and actually pursue my own goals. She seems pretty... adamant, for lack of a better word, about her beliefs."
He ended up saying more than he intended, but it still wasn't near everything that he had on his mind. He purposely left out his goals, or rather the lack of them. There were other things left unsaid as well, but it wasn't anything for her to be bothered with. His problems were his alone; if he wasn't going to tell Azoth about what was bothering him, he surely wasn't going to tell a relative stranger.
"What about you?" Geata thought it only fair that he ask the question in return. "What made you join the Keepers? You don't seem to fit the general theme of the faction, honestly."

“W-Well…” Poppet struggled to answer. Should she share her reason of joining the Keeper to him? It is only fair that she should at least answer his question, since he was kind enough to answer her question, even if his answer was vague. In a way, she joined the Keeper because they have resources that could help her with her personal mission when she first arrived in the city. But on the other hand, she feels unsure about trusting the guy fully since he didn’t even gave her a proper reason.
“Listen,” Jessica said to him, “we joined the faction with a similar reason as you are, that’s all we’ll share to you. Don’t get us wrong; since you didn’t give a clear answer, don’t expect us to do not do the same. But just so we’re clear, poor little Poppet here didn’t have the shady intention that you, or any other Keeper’s members, have in mind.”
Poppet felt quite awkward since Jessica has to answer the question for her again. It’s quite hard for her to keep thing to herself without her doll’s help. Jessica has always told her that she’s way too trusting on people, thus gave Jessica a reason to actually deal with the socializing instead. However, she is thankful that Jessica is here to help her deal with the situation, making her feel more at ease with the situation.
“I-I’m sorry that we can’t tell you anything more, even when we’re the one who asked you such personal question.”

Geata tilted his head as Jessica gave her response. His intentions seemed shady? He wasn't entirely sure how, given how he flat out said that he wanted people surviving dragon attacks. Clearly, if one of his leading reasonings was "everybody lives happily ever after", he can't be all that self serving. And yet, much to his dismay, he started questioning his every motivation. He was likely to do so for a while, he knew. He sighed, resigned to his fate, but he wasn't about to let Poppet sit there and think less of him. Only he was allowed to think less of himself, dammit.
"I feel like there might've been a misunderstanding," he said. "If I had to guess as to what makes you say my reasoning is shady, it's probably the part where I said the Keepers would provide me with the resources needed to achieve my goals, yeah? Where I said I wouldn't be a bystander? Is it really so wrong that I want to play an active part in deciding my fate? I can't say I'm the best at making decisions with weight behind them, but I'm wanting to learn what I can to change that. Besides, the more I know, the more I can help other people make smarter, better informed decisions of their own. That's not a bad thing."
And yet, he was having doubts. Was that really what he was wanting? Or was it just what he was telling himself? Could he really be on the same level as the average Keeper agent and only looking out for himself? He didn't think so, but he couldn't say for certain. What he needed was something to eat, some time to sleep, and some peace and quiet. He could figure things out then. But first, he needed to leave, and let Poppet get back to whatever she was doing.
He looked up at the sky and sighed. "It's getting later than I realized. I'm gonna have to go, soon. You have anything else you'd like to say before I do, Poppet?" He felt bad about suddenly deciding that he had to leave, but it wasn't something he was going to go into detail with her about. He needed to figure things out on his own, the same way he always had, even if he knew that opening up to someone about it was probably the smart way to go. There wasn't a great deal of people he could go talk to about it, though, that he'd be comfortable putting the pressure of his problems on.
Goals are hard, he decided.

“I-I didn’t say there’s anything wrong with that,” Poppet said.
She then looked up in the sky, has it already been this late? She didn’t think the hour right now is considered to be “late”, since it’s still light outside. Then again, she did take some of his time away talking to her rather than doing something he was here in the first place. She wondered if she might have said something that offended him in some way. She shook her head in response to his request; at the moment she couldn’t really come up with a right question to ask him other than some personal request, none of which he would be willing to answer.
“I-I guess I’ll see you later in the future then?” she said to him, “S-Sorry about taking some of you time today.”
It might be time for her to return back to her comfort zone; perhaps she might go get herself a cup of green tea in order to calm her nerve after the awkward conversation. Who know when Geata will actually decided to join the Keeper, but at the very least she can actually have someone else that she can practice her socializing skill to.
