Luna felt the warm sun get absorbed by her tan skin and smiled in contentment. She had just spent the entire morning hiking through the hills and had every intention of spending the afternoon swimming and reading her book. It was one of the rare days she did not have something going on and Luna had every intentions of enjoying her free time.
'Besides,' she thought while taking a deep breath in, "it's good to get away from the city every once and awhile. She had initially thought about going to her community pool, though with a nickname like "the swamp", it sounded more like a danger to her health than what it was worth. Growing up in the slums didn't offer many amenities, but at least it let her appreciate the nice parts of life, like how crystal clear this lake was.
Eager to cool off after the tiring hike, Luna quickly threw off her clothes to reveal her old swimsuit. A blue tankini, the suit had seen better days, but it still fit which is all that mattered. She planned to go running into the lake, just like the kids in the movies, but not before she turned around and neatly folded the the discarded clothing into the bag. Initially wanting to be spontaneous, Luna decided that it was better to ensure the wind didn't scatter her garments than to ignore the work. Now that everything was in place she could dive right into the sparkling water. Gaining speed, the teenager pushed herself off the ground and did a flip into the lake.
'At least gymnastics was good for something,' she thought with laugh. Simply floating, Luna closed her eyes and allowed herself to actually relax for once.

It wasn't unusual to see a stray cat in the city but it was probably a much higher surprise to see one anywhere near the 'wild'. Why? Not even Pol could answer that question, lacking the feline train of thought despite having their inner instincts. At the very least it was easier to hide his things within the trees, wandering stark naked toward a known lake to properly clean himself. Sure, just because he was a cat didn't mean he had to lick himself; water worked just as fine. His desires didn't make his situations any less safe however thus was why he was sticking to his original 'I'm A Cat Meow' plan. Didn't comprise of much, just walk on all fours and don't speak English. His coat and sword hung high into a tree a bit of a ways from the lake, giving him some peace of mind against the prickly thing jabbing into his pads. Really, how were cats able to walk across terrain so easily? It hurt like sin in some places, a drier path included. Not to mention there was more than one spot where he could see the remnants of broken glass. Damn litterers. But he persisted. The oil and grime he was feeling was nothing short of disgusting enough for desperation. So when he had finally found himself at crystal waters, he almost couldn't hide the look of both amusement and irritation to see something splashing about. A person. There was a person just... floating there. An idle teenager? Wouldn't surprise him, though the lack of party members clued in that this was either a loner or not a teen. If he held a better skill in his sense of smell he could probably tell more but alas, that wasn't to be the case. Instead he had to go for what the floating thi- girl; it was a girl - left behind. Her clothes. Sneakily, the feline super tip-toed his way across the surroundings; making a bee-line for the idle clothes. His single eye glanced occasionally toward the stranger as he flicked her clothes about much like how a cat might slap a mouse toy. Enough power and he could flip them out of their neat designs and still seem perfectly innocent, as innocent as a twin-tailed creature might be. Still he kept his act, trying to find and rummage the pockets before he was seen. ------------ luna

Finding herself sinking, Luna broke her stillness and emerged from the water gasping for air. Blinking a couple times to get water out of her eyes, she suddenly noticed some sort of animal messing with her stuff. Luna was alarmed, as she had packed snacks and did not think she could make it back down the mountain without at least something to eat. Of course, she wanted to get a bit closer to see what it and tried to swim as quietly as she could towards the offending creature. Last thing she needed was for a bear to spot her and come charging into the lake.
'A cat?' Luna puzzled the moment she was able to better make out the details of the curious feline. It had a split tail, which was odd, but not the weirdest thing the teenager had ever seen, what was strange was seeing a domestic cat this far from the city. In fact, Luna was pretty sure the reason he was rummaging through her bag was because how hungry the isolated animal was. If she were able to afford it, Luna would have loved to take the cute animal in as a pet, but her situation really didn't need another mouth to feed. Feeling pity, the girl decided try and feed the cat when she got to shore. Seeing that there was no immediate threat to her or her belongings, Luna lost her sense of urgency and leisurely made her way to back to shore.
After all, the only item of value in her bag would be her latest paycheck. Of course the check was from Bruno's, a bar and restaurant who's business ran a little deeper than just serving drinks. A popular meeting point for those planning less than legal behavior and a middle man between mercenaries and employers, Luna had witnessed all sorts of underhand deals as she walked around waiting on tables. To say attempts to shake her down for information were common was the understatement of the century, so she often avoided specifically naming her place of work to anyone.
'Not that a cat would be interested in that,' she mused to herself.

This search was absolutely fruitless. But then he wasn't expecting much from some random little girl splashing around in the lake, if anything he was hoping she had enough sense to keep her wallet on her; at the very least. But no. That logic wouldn't be running like normal today. Instead the feline found something rather useless in his opinion, a little piece of parchment. A paycheck. He paused, pulling the scrap out to read it; his golden eye opening ever so slightly so that he could focus on it better. Bruno's? Ah yes, the bar. Anyone who knew anything knew about the distasteful little hotspot famous to ever kind of super, no matter how much they deny it. Pol himself wasn't unknown to the establishment though he had never frequented himself. Mostly rumors and things he'd heard from fellows had alerted him to its presence.
Still it was nothing. He held no real interest and thus slid the paper back into its pocket secretly, one ear flicking to hear the water disturbance suddenly silence... no, it was still there. Closing that right eye of his again, he glanced up from this now-nest of clothes; eyeing the woman. Ah, she spotted him. Worse yet, she was coming toward him though nothing on her face indicated she thought of him as anything other than what he appeared. A cat. An innocent, probably hungry; cat. Most people tended to voice that upon seeing him, much to his stomach's joy. Another reason why he never went hungry. But before him were two options: flee or wait? Staring at her she hardly looked the part of something dangerous... Plus he didn't exactly get to search through all her pockets either. Not like many held much, the check plus some minor bits of food.
...He couldn't think of any reason to flee. There was absolutely no need, plus he still needed to wash his fur. So he jumped away from the mess he'd made, making his way toward the girl with every single skill he had in acting transferring into 'cat'. Like an innocent creature, the beast made to the edge of the water; stuck his nose out a little farther to sniff. The gray piece wiggled like a bunny's, leaving the cat to stare innocently at the being swimming toward him. "Meow?" He let out a soft little sound, twin tails flicking slightly.

Luna was pleasantly surprise when the cat came towards her and did not run away like most feral cats. Getting out of the water, Luna found herself shivering as the air hit her skin and passed the feline in favor of grabbing her towel. After drying herself off, Luna paid full attention to her company. She cautiously approached the cat, getting on her knees to decrease the height difference. Before petting him, she let him sniff her hand as throughout the year Luna found this decreased her chances of getting scratched. She ran her fingers across the cat's back, enjoying the feel of his silky fur.
Always wanting a pet, Luna enjoyed the company of any animal she came across. She loved going to the park and petting others' dogs though she preferred cats. There used to be an old alley cat who would climb up to her window and sit in her room for a couple hours. He would always bring a gift of a dead rodent and leave it there for her so long as she played with him. A grumpy old thing, his patchy gray fur was always a welcomed sight after school. One day he just stopped coming and Luna was left to assume the worst about her first friend.
Getting up again, Luna walked over to her bag and grabbed the lunch she had packed. Breaking off a piece of her turkey sandwich, Luna held out the food to the calico cat to draw him towards her. Taking a bite of her own sandwich, Luna watched with anticipation for what the cat to do next as she dried off.
"Here, kitty, kitty," she called.

He had the faintest mindset that maybe, just maybe; the child had something to key into his interest on her person. That theory would soon be cast out of the window once she exited the water, walking right past him in a bathing suit looking far too worn for its own good. Modest though, compared to many he'd seen by the younger generations. That expanded the options of just what exactly this girl was, narrowing it and refining it into a few delicate tidbits. His open eye examined her under the guise of his innocent face, taking in her features; flicking his tail as he remembered little things. Average in appearance, more fit than the usual chubby or anorexic girls seen in her ages. Or what he presumed was her age by appearance alone. Common brown hair with a twist of curls, also unfortunately rather common. He never caught a glimpse at her eyes from up-close, unable to say just what those orbs held.
"Meow~." He called out again at her offered hand. Common sense? It was there. There was no animosity, nothing more than the obvious sight that she wanted to pet him. Most people did. That or kick him away, animal haters those ones. Easy to spot though unlike the psychopaths who played it cleverly until one got a look at their eyes. Any creature with an intelligence could see the darkness that mirrored those hidden intentions. He shook those idle things from his head, playing his role thoroughly by wiggling his nose at the offered fingers. No purr erupted from him but he did close his eyes and arch his back against the scratches. It wasn't so bad really, relaxed the muscles and got rid of those annoying irritations of places he couldn't quite reach.
When she'd stopped, he stared after her. Silently he made a half-hearted attempt to follow after her, stopping shortly before her as she began to fish out something from her bag. He only rummaged through her clothes, not the bag; so his awareness increased. The single eye narrowed... until the sight revealed to him put him back in his innocent act. Ah, more food. Figures. She must have thought him hungry. Another thing people often figured him to be. Made sense seeing where he was. Like a fearless feline he marched right up to her, twin tails erect; delicately taking the tiny tidbit from her fingers. Not once did he let it hit the ground, holding the piece up with the back of his paw while his cheekless mouth gobbled it down.
But he wasn't just putting on a show, he was eyeballing that bag. Albeit very discreetly. Perhaps a better attempt to find an ID of some sort would be in there? A cellphone would do fine as well... Future plans and an idle need to fill his knowledge demanded he attempt to get closer to that... But how? He was playing the part of a good cat... and he still needed to take a bath... Looking backward, Poltergeist weighed his options; flicking crumbs from his paw in an almost refined manner.

Luna looked at the tabby with a smile. Though she liked to be alone, the occasional company was welcomed. Sometimes she honestly felt like everyone forgets about her, even though knows everyone is busy it can be hard when she feels like she is the only one making an effort.
"I guess that's why I like animals so much," Luna mused out loud as she pet the cat. Animals always noticed her and did not require carefully crafted responses like humans did. Socializing could honestly be exhausting at times. Smiling to herself, Luna thought, 'And I wonder why I don't have more friends.'
Sighing, Luna leaned back to marvel at the peace and beauty of her surroundings, however the silence simply would not do. She locked many of her thoughts up inside herself and had not had a serious talk with anyone in quite some time. Of course, Luna didn't want to saw them to empty air, but it looks like that would have to do for now.
'Technically someone is listening,' Luna smiled as she side eyed her feline friend, 'And anything I say would be safe, no way for a cat to tell anyone anything.'
Stretching, the teenagers leaned back until she was lying down in the thick grass.
"It's been a long week, cat," she began, feeling only slightly ridiculous, "Three tests, two jobs, and an essay. Just glad it's over, though I should probably be studying for history right now. Look I even brought my books."
Luna took a pause to open her bag wide enough for the cat to peer in and see her school materials. She must seem absolutely crazy to anyone looking on, but Luna could not care less at the moment. The embarrassment would probably hit her tonight as she laid in bed, slamming her tomato colored face into her pillow as she anxiously imagined what people would say if they found out.
Despite this, Luna continued, "But it'll all be worth it, I'll go to college and make something of myself. Not sure what yet, maybe engineering, perhaps a scientist. I mean it's what I'm good at, or at least I hope I am, you can never really tell when you go to a school like mine."
Public school in the slums did not exactly have the highest expectations for their students and a part of Luna worried about whether she was actually talents at science or math or just lucky her curriculum was so easy.
