Roz did her best to stifle a yawn as she stepped through the doors of the university's main library. She enjoyed her current studies, she truly did, but the late nights were beginning to wear on her. Sleep had been a rare blessing in the last few weeks. With exams looming and term papers to complete Roz could not afford to take naps, no matter how badly she longed for sleep. So, she had reluctantly dragged herself from the comfort of her apartment, if for nothing more than to chase off temptation.
The library proved to be rather full, as was expected for this time of the semester. Students huddled around every table. A few groups were obviously meeting to complete projects. Others were simply silently studying in the presence of friends or even strangers. Some students didn't seem to be doing any work at all. Roz gave the last latter a stern look as she passed, but otherwise ignored the crowd as she searched for a place to sit. An actual empty table seemed unlikely, considering the density of the library's current populace. No familiar faces appeared amongst the crowd, either. She'd have to sit with a stranger, then.
Several long moments passed before she finally spotted an empty chair. The table was tucked away near a window on the second floor, and while currently occupied seemed to have enough room for another person. Roz scurried forward before someone else could snatch the seat away. Stopping behind the chair, she offered a friendly smile to the table's current occupant.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" she asked, her voice low so as not to bother any of the other students.

Luna dazedly looked up from her book. With no real library where she lived, the university's library was the next best thing. Technically only college students were supposed to make use of it, but Luna found it almost too easy to slip in with a group of students without them or the librarians noticing. Just to be cautious, however, she always chose a table in the back, away from everyone else. In fact Luna was fairly sure that she had never actually spoken to anyone in the library.
Today, that was going to change. A light haired student had just spoken to Luna, without being spoken to first. The experience was a novel one for Luna, being her high school's resident wallflower. Blinking a couple times, Luna looked the woman trying to come up with a socially acceptable response. It didn't help that she seemed confident, the blinding aura of which muddled Luna's introverted brain.
"Of course," Luna answered as she noticed the dark bags beneath the student's eyes, "Though the library probably isn't the best place for a nap."

"I look that bad, huh?" Roz chuckled as she slid her bag from her shoulder and slipped into the empty chair. It was a little disconcerting really. Perhaps she should have tried covering up the bags under her eyes better before leaving her apartment, but she shrugged off that thought quickly. It was a silly idea, and she had to keep her priorities strait. Extra make-up wouldn't have helped her ability to study or made her feel any more awake. Most of the other students probably looked just as exhausted as she did, anyway.
Speaking of students, her table-mate didn't exactly look like a collage student now that Roz got a decent look at her. She seemed awfully young. Of course, all the freshman looked like babies to her now that she was a bit older, but the girl sitting across from her seemed even younger still. Propping her bag against her chair, Roz began to dig out textbook and notes, her eyes glancing up at the younger girl from time to time. A moment of silence passed, before she spoke again.
"You're a bit young to be in University, aren't you?" she asked, as she pulled out a highlighter. Despite the bluntness of her question, she kept her tone more friendly and conversational than accusatory.

"No, um sorry," Luna quickly replied. She had instantly regretted what she said as it left her mouth. Though the woman had taken the bluntness in stride, Luna still felt awkward pulling out jokes like that with people who weren't her friends. The woman didn't appear angry, much to Luna's relief and she went back to enjoying her book. An interesting text on the history of Emerald City, the book Luna was reading was absolutely riveting.
Once again distracted, Luna looked up to answer the question.
"Yeah, I'm not actually a student," she laughed with a hint of embarrassment, "The librarians let me in to use the collection anyways though."
A white lie never hurt anybody, and technically the librarians did let Luna in by not noticing her at all. It was better than saying she snuck in illegally, as Luna doubted that would go over well. Plus she would have to go into why and she didn't want anyone to know about where she lived, as her reason and home were interconnected. A part of her was embarrassed, going to a school without even its own library and the last library near her house burned to the ground by rioting Pandemonium members. By talking about all of that would ruin Luna's little fantasy about actually being a student at college.
Wanting to draw attention away from her reason why she was here, Luna thought it was high time for and introduction.
"Hi, I'm Luna. What's yours?"

Roz watched the girl from the corner of her eye as she opened her textbook to the page had marked in a previous study attempt. She doubted the librarians let her do anything, but the library didn't exactly have heavy security or anything. More likely than not, the librarians didn't even notice that the teenager. If Roz thought freshmen looked young, they probably had an even harder time differentiating them from high schoolers. As long as she wasn't stealing the books, there probably wasn't any problem with her using the library, though. So, Roz let the explanation slide without comment and smiled at the girls introduction.
"I'm Rosalind," she replied, holding her hand out for a shake. "Though most people call me Roz, nowadays. It's nice to meet you, Luna."
Something about Luna reminded Roz a bit of herself when she was younger. Perhaps it was simply the fact that the girl appeared more studious than most teenagers seemed to the grad student. She had snuck into a college library to read a history book, after all. Perhaps Roz would have done something similar if she hadn't found other ways to occupy her free time. She'd always been somewhat fond of books. "Are you new to Emerald City? Or, just a history buff?"

(I'm sorry about the poor grammar, I was half asleep when I wrote the previous response.)
"Not new at all, lived here my whole life," Luna answered.
'And have never actually left,' she added internally. Not that Luna minded that her family couldn't travel, she wasn't much of a wandering spirit. Emerald City had enough mystery and intrigue to keep any curious teenager occupied for a life time, or at least until they hit their twenties.
"And yes, I really like learning about local history, there is so much to learn about this city, it's unfortunate people don't spend more time reading about it."
This answer came straight from Luna's heart. She adored most any book, especially sciences, but history held a special place in her heart. The first book she ever actually owned was a third grade textbook that her teacher gifted her at the end of the year. Unable to put it down, Luna had read and reread the small historic record until its pages yellowed and grew brittle. Now it just sits on her shelf as a keepsake fondly handled with care for a rush of nostalgia. This library book is much more detailed than the initial history Luna learned, but the complexity only increased her interest.
"So what are you reading up on?" Luna questioned, reminding herself that it was polite to return an inquiry with another.
