Bolide wanted to pretend like this was all spontaneous. He just happened to be in the area, as did Aurora. She just happened to be alone, in a fairly large open area, confirmed void of other people by his powers. As far as he was concerned, it didn’t matter that he’d woken up this morning knowing that if he was going to do this, he either had to do it today or it was going to itch the back of his mind for another week, or that he’d since been considering optimal conditions in which to bring this up, or that he’d, strictly speaking, been sort of following Aurora a little at varying distances ever since he first spotted her earlier in the day. Yes, he’d simply just been too busy up until this point to approach her, and that no one was around at the time of doing so was merely a coincidence. Bolide had been hesitating at the edge of his ability’s range, watching the small glimmer of light unique in color and shape to Aurora, residing just under five blocks away, and working up the courage to go up to her. This lasted all of five minutes (the rest of the day not included) before he grew utterly fed up with himself. Like he needed ‘courage’ or some other BS to go talk with Aurora. What was he even afraid of? If she turned him down, so what? If she laughed at him, or spread the word so that others could laugh at him, why the hell should he care? He was better than that, damn it. He turned on his motorcycle and before he could convince himself otherwise (not that he had to worry about that or anything), drove the distance between him and his faction leader. He stopped the bike at the edge of the street and set it up against the curb. “Aurora Disicio!” He called in completed greeting. Calmly, like absolutely nothing unusual was up and today was just a totally normal saturday, he strode towards her. He stopped about an arm’s reach away, a little closer than he normally liked, widened his stance, and crossed his arms. “I need to ask you a personal favor.” He said like he was reporting the amount of steel brought in the latest shipment, not like his face was bright red and his posture a little too stiff, and he was fighting with his stomach for control of his throat. It was the moment’s pause and unwilling glance to his feet afterwards that lost him the battle. “C-can you train me?” Aurora Disicio

The areas where people lived were at least looking presentable now. All the charred remains of any buildings had been cleared, and most of them had been replaced even, the streets were free of the garbage and human waste that was littering them before, there were nice plants and decorations lining the streets and filling the empty areas, and while she still wanted to do more she had other priorities for the moment. It was time to look at the docks themselves again. As much as Aurora'd been dreading examining the extent of the decay from the lack of maintenance in the area, it was important to know so that it could eventually be rebuilt. How soon she'd be pushing for that she wasn't sure, but if she wanted to docks to be back to their former glory this was a crucial step that couldn't be ignored.
The damage was worse than she thought it'd be. There were clear signs of super fights, with large holes in parts of the concrete, some of the areas where ships would actually dock were completely blasted to pieces, among other skid marks and damages. Any wood even near the water, even if it wasn't directly touching it, was almost completely rotted away and even some of the concrete showed signs of damage from water seeping into cracks and freezing. Everything of value had long since been looted, and even some of the driftwood had been too. There were barnacles and algae sticking to just about everything underwater. As it stood, nearly everything was going to have to be replaced and rebuilt. The thought made Aurora a little depressed. She had hoped that at least some of it would have been salvageable.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a motorcycle and a familiar voice calling her name. Aurora sighed. There weren't very many reasons someone would be calling out to her like this, so this must have been yet another person that needed something from her. It was getting hard to manage, but he didn't call her Disco or some other stupid nickname, so she could humor him for now. She'd gotten used to people choking on their words in her presence, so his pausing and stuttering didn't faze her in the slightest. She folded her arms and thought for a moment.
"Train you in what exactly? What are you hoping to learn, what are you hoping to accomplish?" Anyone that asked anything of her were going to start hearing those words more and more, she couldn't be a substitute for their own decision making. "I have a wide variety of skills, but I wouldn't say I'm qualified to teach very many of them. I should at least be able to offer some advice at the very least."

Bolide was almost taken aback. He’d thought it was obvious what skill he was talking about. “In combat.” He replied with a small hint of exasperation, a result of the surprise. What else could this be about?
At least the hard part was over, and she hadn’t shooed him away or flat out said ‘no’. It was… not his worst case scenario, which in Bolide’s book was better than he could’ve hoped. Confidence returned quickly and the red dropped a little from his face (the rest of which he was planning on willing out of existence by ignoring).
“I’m… not very strong.” That was the second hard part, admitting that he was weak. At least it was a little easier to someone like Aurora, who knew she was strong, rather than someone who doubted their own abilities and would try to boost themselves off of him. “I can gather allies and plan out strategies however much I want, but if I myself aren’t able in a fight I’m going to keep running into roadblocks. I’ve thought of several possible ways to increase my strength; physical exercies, obviously, which I’m doing daily by myself now, strengthening my powers, knowledge of the flow of battle - strategy, knowing what works in certain battles and what doesn’t - and technique. I know all of those will come eventually with experience, but if I invest time now in getting stronger, it means I can be more productive sooner.”
To Bolide, it also meant should an important battle come along, he didn’t need to feel so afraid of losing it. Compared to other supers - to Aurora, he was indeed weak. He knew and was afraid of what it meant come the day when he had no choice but to fight.
“You’re the only one I know who I can ask for help.” He concluded with certainty.
Which meant he was already assuming the answer was ‘yes’. Bolide’s shoulders relaxed, as did his tone. His gaze shifted out over the ocean. “I don’t know enough about battle to know specifically what about my knowledge or technique needs to be improved, nor do I understand enough about powers as a whole to know how to strengthen mine. Half the reason I came for help is because I don’t know where to start.”

Aurora rubbed her chin and thought for a moment before she started pacing. Each step she took broke the near silence in the area as the metal parts of her boots hit the concrete. She'd long since gotten used to the sound, so it didn't break her concentration any. It would be difficult to train anyone because the only reason she could fight herself was because of experience. She had no training beyond a few google searches to learn what to do and what to avoid, and she relied heavily on her power to fight, something he would not be able to use no matter how hard he tried. Further, she didn't know the specifics of his power, so it would be difficult to give advice to replace it. After pacing for a good minute or two, she stopped and turned to face him again.
"I'm not sure how much I'll be able to help you personally, as I have no training myself and my fighting style only comes from personal experience. If you don't even know where to start, I would suggest sparring with the other members. It shouldn't be too hard to pick a fight with any of them. You'll spend a lot of time injured and sore, but that's a necessary part of learning how to fight anyway. It wouldn't do you much good if you could be taken out with one punch. There will be some things you're good at, some things you're bad at that can be improved, and some things you're bad at that need to be compensated for because they're not possible to improve. Pay attention to these things, learn how people are hitting you, and what you're doing that lets you hit them. For now let's see what you can do."
She considered that enough of a heads up to get started. He presumably wanted her feedback, so it'd be poor form to let him go without a little bit of practice. Aurora figured she was also more willing to go easy on him than a lot of the other members would be, so she'd make for a good starting point. Without further warning, she started winding back for a punch to his gut. It was deliberately slow to see how good his reflexes were, but if it made contact it'd be quite painful and unless he knew how to breathe right, would likely knock the wind right out of him.

What a wonderful excuse to find out the extent of the other Pandaemonium’s abilities Aurora had given him. It was too bad it was indeed very likely to leave him bruised and sore. Injuries could be taken care of at base, of course, but Bolide would either have to fake it or he’d just have to live with them for a couple of days. Neither prospect sounded especially pleasant. Nor did the initial means of getting his face beat in.
Of which, Aurora was quick to get to. Bolide had waited patiently as she paced and listened attentively as she talked, but he was still in the ‘processing information’ stage by the time she was winding up her swing. He’d even taken his ‘give me a moment while I judge this’ pose of hand on helmet chin, gaze up, and weight unfairly put on his right.
The last bit - an obvious warning, given her first statement - was not fully noted until swing was already en route for his gut. Thankfully, while he was supposed to lack formal training, he was with good agility and reaction time. Bolide’s head jerked up with his attention, and with hardly a moment to spare he lept backwards a small handful of feet, stumbling to keep upright as he hadn’t bothered to check his landing.
“Hold on, hold on, I’m not ready yet!” He yelped.
Bolide fumbled with one hand to get his lantern going, and with his other to grab the closest dart in his bag, taking several unsteady steps backwards in the hopes of gaining space to guard from a second swing.
It was time to repeat all the mistakes of his own young self.

"Good, your reflexes aren't complete shit." Once her swing was finished she folded her arms and returned eye contact. "You weren't ready? How could you not be ready? If you're that easy to take by surprise then you'll never last in a real fight, especially given supers' propensity for banter. Because of how explosive super fights tend to be, the first few seconds of the fight tend to determine the outcome. Don't let yourself get caught be surprise."
Even with as long as her speech was, he was still fumbling for a way to attack. Aurora sighed and shook her head. Trying to use objects against her was pointless, and if this was the only tactic he had he wouldn't last long in actual fights. Her own ability to deal with his darts (and the entire lantern for that matter) aside, relying on quickly starting fires wasn't going to work. Having to take time to setup without a clear way to prevent people from stopping him from setting up. Maybe she wasn't giving him enough credit though. She took a few slow steps forward before lunging towards him aiming for a quick chop on one of his elbows, the one going for the dart. This strike was faster and the windup wasn't as obvious. She decided to be kind and avoid breaking any of his gear for now, but she wasn't going to be kind enough to let him regain his footing before moving again. This was meant to see what he could do, there was no reason to try too hard to win.

That was the painful truth that she spoke of; super fights rarely did last very long, and a slip in the first few seconds was near impossible to recover from later on. Even if one side was objectively stronger, surprise or a clever opening strategy could easily sway a battle. This was absolutely necessary to both be weary of and utilize to one’s own advantage.
Bolide was slightly more ready now, in that his mind was now in the fight, but a weapon still eluded his grasp. His balance was off (swayed slightly right, thanks to a rock), Aurora was coming in for what else but another hit, and a mild state of panic was beginning to rise in his chest. So, he responded with a reactive tactic. One he’d already planned and therefore came quickly to mind; before Aurora’s jab could land, Bolide vanished into a plume of smoke.
The main reason why Bolide thought the lantern was a genius idea and thus carried it with him was that as long as it was on, smoke would follow him wherever he went. It meant he had one end of the teleport pretty well covered, but it also meant that as he moved about, he was leaving behind a trail of smoke to return to (albeit one that disappeared quickly). He’d moved backwards and Aurora had stepped to follow, and enough smoke remained behind for him to utilize. Bolide reappeared behind Aurora a short ways off the ground and, this time, caught himself firmly on his feet. Still acting as per in instinct, he picked up his right leg for a roundhouse kick to her side. Grunting loudly, of course, to accentuate the action.

One moment her strike was on point and she was getting ready for it to connect, and the next moment he wasn't there at all. Aurora's hand chopped harmlessly through the air while she tried to make sense of what happened. It was the sound of his feet hitting the ground combined with what little knowledge she had about his power that made her realize what happened. For a moment she was pleased, but that moment passed quickly when he started shouting while attacking. By the time he started shouting she was already turning, but that and his obvious movements made it clear what he was trying to do. Rather than dodge it, she moved her hands to catch his foot instead, easing them in the same direction as the kick to minimize the impact to her hands.
"Don't telegraph your attacks," she said flatly. "Your body naturally does it already, and it's enough of a weakness like that, there's no need to make it worse. You should avoid using kicks for now for the same reason, unless you're aiming low towards the feet or shins. They're powerful, but slow and easier to block or counter than punches are, and if they're properly dealt with, it'll leave you open for a counterattack. Save it for when you know what you're doing. Further, that was a nice trick with your power, but it'll be dangerous to rely on. You need the lantern right? What happens if someone destroys it? Further, just because I'm not using my power yet doesn't mean you have to hold back on using yours. Is that the extent of what you can do offensively with it? You'll be far behind most supers if your power has no offensive applications; it'll mean you'll have to get creative."
If by some miracle he was still there and listening quietly, she'd test to see how flexible he was by pushing his foot into the air, and if it looked like he might tip over, she'd step on his other foot to stop that. Though, she'd be disappointed if he actually sat through her entire speech rather than preparing another attack while she was talking. Aurora was ready for it of course, her time as a super and the very nature of her power made it so it was easy for her to hold a conversation and fight at the same time.

Bolide reaction was one of clear surprise. She’d just outright stopped it; hadn’t bothered to dodge or move, and didn’t seem the least bit affected by the impact. Surprise turned into a second moment of panic as he realized she was in the perfect position for any number of counter attacks. Which one she’d chose he didn’t bother to stick around to find out - Bolide was replaced with a second cloud of smoke and formed a moment later in the remnants of his last. He took several quick steps backwards to put distance between them.
Indeed, one didn’t go about making melee attacks lightly, especially hard-hitting and time-intensive ones like kicking. That was how one got flipped, or their leg broken, or a sword in their gut. It was one of those lessons that was learned quickly and painfully, and implemented slowly and painfully.
Plans, he had plans for this. Strategies plotted out that sounded really good in his head and worked well when he practiced them by himself, so they were sure to work now too. Bolide took a breath to calm himself and retrieved three darts from his bag. As Aurora spoke, he lit each twice - the cloth strips were set alight as per usual, but upon taking the body of the dart in hand, it burst aflame in a dull white fire. Bolide glanced around their surroundings. Upon looking, the spots he needed - in buildings, the ground, whatever he focused on - lit up. They were weak points, he’d found - places where the material was not as strong, or where weight was focused and integrity would be ruined if struck. He found one past and right of Aurora in the eroding concrete near the water’s edge, the old wall of the equally old building a number of meters behind him, and, as luck would have it, on the ground before him. He threw a dart downwards, directly into the point below him, and the other two at the two other desired points. As always, they would stick without trouble.
Finally, Bolide drew out a metal needle from his bag, akin to a knitting needle but sharpened to a fine point and about as long as his hand. It, too, lit with the white flames. They didn’t give off smoke, or indeed much heat, but as long as the needle was cloaked it could slice through steel like butter. Bolide leveled his gaze on Aurora, and several points lit up on her. It was one on her arm that he wanted.
Aurora had finished speaking. Bolide nodded; he’d show her his offensive capabilities. Keeping his body low, he rushed her. Once he was close enough, he would jab the needle at his mark - a small point in the soft inner crook of her right elbow, with the intent to pierce through her thick coat. If he was moved even slightly off point, it wouldn’t be more than a knitting needle to her arm, and one he didn’t intend to let go in very far. If it met, however, her entire arm would go numb and limp, as though she’d slept on it.

Sure enough he disappeared like a reasonable person. If he had a power like that, he would be very difficult to hit, which was good news for him if he wanted to practice at least. Once she no longer had a hold of his leg, she let go and finished her explanation while watching what he was doing next. Taking the time to light a fire probably wouldn't work that well in the heat of combat, but that was something he'd realize soon enough. This time was for experimenting, there was no need to fight seriously. She let the darts hit their mark. Everything here was metal and concrete, so it was unlikely anything would catch on fire. It was interesting to see the darts stick despite the hard surfaces they were going into though. Aurora waited to see the follow-up, but he was going straight into melee again. Were the darts escape routes then? Ways to help him maneuver? In that case, why wasn't he using it to close the distance faster or using it to disguise his movements? Like this she could see what was coming, though for the sake of practice she was going to let him hit her. As difficult as it was to let herself be hit by something that looked like fire, it was for the greater good. She managed to not move in order to avoid disrupting his attack, though she did have to look away. It didn't hurt, no more than a simple pinch, but her arm felt weird after and it didn't want to move right. She hopped back a few times, a little clumsily since she couldn't use that arm to stabilize herself like she was used to, and thought for a moment.
Bolide had a few methods he could use in combat. If his power was mostly about maneuverability and disabling, then it seemed like he would favor longer battles if his body could handle such tactics. Aurora smiled and brought her good hand to her chin (as odd as it felt to use her off hand for that). It was time to test those limits. Her aurora rose into the air and spread out so that it covered the whole area. Aurora herself positioned herself so that she wouldn't be too close to any of the darts or their smoke streams, and started dropping stuff directly on top of Bolide. They weren't heavy things, mostly bits of scrap wood or small rocks, but they would still hurt if they actually hit him. That seemed unlikely though because she was aiming so that as long as he kept moving nothing would ever hit him. She'd absorb them again before they hit the ground to avoid making too much noise and so she could use them again. If he tried to approach her, she'd drop something heavy, like one of her large steel beams, right in front of her and would let them hit the ground before absorbing it again to signal that doing that would be dangerous. If he wanted to get close he was going to have to get creative. Otherwise this was a good time to see what his ranged options were.

Bolide’s confidence in the battle was rekindled as his attack hit true. That Aurora may’ve let him get that hit in, and thus was the only reason why he had gotten a hit in, didn’t cross his mind. With even more energy and slightly wider movements than before, Bolide took several quick steps backwards to make distance before Aurora could rebound and retaliate.
The aurora started to move. Bolide watched it warily, and found his expectations not disappointed. He was glad she was finally using her powers. As soon as the objects began to fall, he began to move, taking a quick jogging pace and a route circling around her left. Once about seventy degrees from where he’d started, he withdrew a second needle from the side of his bag and, with a sudden burst of speed, sprinted at Aurora, intent to enter melee again.
A steel beam awaited him. Bolide yelped and jumped backwards as the beam crashed onto the ground in front of him, close enough that the air wave down sent ripples through the smoke marking his impulsive departure. He reappeared at the dart buried in the wall.
So she wasn’t going to let him get close. Easily, anyway. Bolide began again to circle Aurora, counterclockwise this time, cycling through plans until he came to one that would fit this situation. He pulled a dart from his bag, resting it between the fingers of his right hand with the two needles. The cloth attached to the dart was lit, and the second needle was cloaked in the same white fire as the first.
He threw as he moved. The two needles were first - one to her left arm and the second to her right leg, both of which would have the same deadening effect as the strike to her right arm should they hit their original marks. The dart was thrown left, low as though to hit her left leg, but would on its own narrowly miss, shooting past her instead.
Bolide stopped abruptly. His eyes were on that dart, waiting to see if it would pass her so he could use it for teleportation, but they were also upwards, towards the next of the cascading objects. He reached up and snatched the dropping piece of scrap wood from the air. The white fire surrounding the dart stuck at his original position went out, and the piece of wood was set alight. The wood wasn’t charring - instead, the edge opposite of the one he was holding sharpened into a blade, and the wood chunk as a whole strengthened. Like the needles, it would be capable of slicing through steel.
What he did next depended largely on the dart. Best case scenario, it went past Aurora, he would teleport the moment it would set him within striking range and bring the piece of wood down in a wide diagonal slash. If it was interfered with, he would teleport to the farthest available smoke, sprint any distance between them, and then make the slash.

He looked different after his successful hit. Did he think he actually hit her despite everything? She raised a brow, ultimately she couldn't let that stand (it'd be dishonest), but there wasn't a good way to go about doing that right now. She kept it in the back of her mind. Right now, she had to focus on the task at hand. He charged at her unsurprisingly, but the steel beam seemed to stop that train of thought pretty quickly. The fact that he could only teleport to specific places might end up being a problem. It wasn't hard for her to keep an eye and ear out for whichever one he might pick, and her assault for her aurora continued with only a moment's pause.
It looked like he quickly realized that his initial idea wasn't going to work and kept his distance. Aurora waited for the next assault, and waited, and waited. He was taking his time thinking about what to do next. She could have punished him for that, but felt like it would defeat the purpose. Instead, she opted to just look as impatient and bored as she actually was and folded her arms. She wasn't thinking about it at the time, but her arm moved easily with only some residual tingliness. While he continued running in circles, she tested the feeling and control she had over her arm again. His power didn't last very long in that regard, something worth keeping in mind.
What he came up with didn't impress her. It was the same trick yet again, and while it had plenty of merit if used correctly, something like that wouldn't work against her or anyone that could manipulate matter somehow. She let him get away with it the first time, but she wasn't going to let it work again. She glanced at each of the needles and the darts, turning them into particles that joined the rest of her aurora. The wood however, she let him keep only because she was curious enough to see what he would do with it. That was at least new.
"Tricks like that aren't going to work against me, or anyone capable of manipulating matter in any way. All things considered, between the shockwaves I've seen, the way people can use weapons, the way people can manipulate their surroundings, among other things I'm willing to bet that's most people on some level even if they can't shut it down as thoroughly as I can. You're going to have to do better than that, or find good ways to outsmart them."

Just like that, his tactic had been entirely shut down. He’d failed to factor her own powers into the plan and because of that it’d been easily countered, and he was left again at square one. The worst part was that she was right, a lot of powers did have many means to negate his abilities, many of which he’d yet to consider. He clicked his tongue and kept moving.
Ways to outsmart her. They were in the wide open, so there wasn’t much in the environment for him to use. He doubted he’d be able to lure her elsewhere or to the few things he could. He wasn’t going to be able to get close to her, not on her watch, nor were any projectiles. He would have to use another strategy.
He had two, neither of which he particularly cared for, but he had to try something.
“I don’t really like doing this, but,” he called. He could go for a while still - he jogged every morning for the sake of building up his endurance - but the running was beginning to make his voice sound a bit airey.
Shifting his course slightly towards Aurora, Bolide reached over his shoulder into his bag and withdrew a round, fist-sized object. He stopped, pulled the clip, and threw the smoke bomb at his feet. Thick black smoke erupted out of the canister. Bolide teleported to the dart buried in the wall to avoid the initial force of the blast and to make sure it covered as much of the area as he needed.
The smoke bomb was a large one. The heavy black plume blew outwards quickly but drifted upwards at only a lazy pace, and the canister itself would continue to output it for another thirty or so seconds. Given about ten, it could produce a cloud large enough to encompass a family-sized house. He’d tried to get within a few meters of Aurora when he threw it - hopefully she would be caught in it within the initial blast. The cloud itself was dark and dense enough that it was comparable to a thick fog, and most people would have trouble seeing farther than an arm’s length in front of them. Bolide’s power, however, required no such thing.
Even if he couldn’t see her directly, he could see the identifying flame at her core. What was more, that was enough to focus on to create glowing weak points on her body. By focusing on her, he could essentially watch her without seeing her, and, more importantly, he knew exactly where to strike.
He hesitated only about a second after he teleported away, enough to grab another four pins from his bag and for the cloud of smoke to reach where he was. Bolide vanished.
Anywhere within the cloud was now a viable point of teleportation. Reappearing behind Aurora was too predictable, even if the exact distance he would chose was not. Instead, he opted to appear about three meters to her left. Before he hadn’t bothered to mask where he was teleporting to, but by landing so his legs absorbed the impact in place of the ground, mixed with his sum total weight of about sixty pounds, he could land near silently.
He locked two weak points in his sights; one on her left arm, and one on her left leg. Two of the four needles were lit and immediately thrown. The light wouldn’t travel far, but he couldn’t allow it to give away his position. Likewise, he didn’t stick around afterwards. Bolide teleported again about two meters to Aurora’s right, taking care to silence his arrival again. He found the next two points, lit the next two needles, and threw. They would follow about three seconds after the first two.
Bolide teleported a final time, to about 10 o’clock from Aurora’s front and four meters back. He wanted to see how it played out before he tried to press any advantage.

Aurora watched his reaction to her words carefully, as difficult as that was to do with someone wearing a full helmet. He seemed deflated, but far from ready to give up. She smiled; that was a good reaction to have. It flattened slightly when he, once again, took some time to think though it didn't disappear completely. That was something he was going to have to work on a lot she was noting, but once again she let him have the time he needed. The only thing she continued to do was drop some of the smaller things from her aurora in order to keep him moving.
The fact that he, once again, announced that he had a plan made her want to drop something on him this time, but he at least acted quickly enough that she didn't have enough time to punish him for it. When she saw him reaching for his backpack she got ready to absorb another object, only for him to move forward and throw it at his feet. A plume of smoke started billowing out of it, and Aurora instinctively covered her mouth with one of the oversized sleeves on her coat. Give his power so far, it was definitely useful to carry around something like that. She clicked her tongue and wondered why his power just had to be about smoke and fire. She could absorb the smoke bomb, but there wasn't much point in doing so. The casing wouldn't stop the reaction, and it'd take her too long to pick up what caused the reaction for it to be useful. Instead, she focused on trying to track his movements before she lost him completely, as useless as that would be in a plume of smoke like this.
The objects from her aurora stopped dropping momentarily while she tried to pinpoint his location. Her eyes were almost useless here, which was also bad given the nature of her power. Normally she would have done something to make herself smaller here, but this was for training. If he could find a way to hit her here then he deserved to succeed, and she wasn't inclined to make that harder on him. This time, she didn't hear anything, she only saw a bit of light rapidly flying towards her. With no time to think, she quickly looked in that direction and absorbed another needle into her aurora, only to be struck in the leg by a second one. The sudden loss of feeling in her left leg was enough to make her fall to her knees. Before she could get her bearings again, one needle flew over her head and the second embedded itself into her shoulder. She moved that arm a little to pull the needle in her other leg out without thinking too hard about it. It was only when she went to pull the needle out of her shoulder that she realized her right arm and shoulder felt perfectly fine. That was interesting. She dropped the needles on the ground, not worrying about the clang they made. He obviously knew where she was already.
Aurora also found it interesting that he didn't like to use this tactic. She could think of a few reasons for that, but she wasn't quite prepared to talk about them yet. It was important to get his thoughts first if she was going to help him properly. At this point, she also accepted that she wasn't going to be able to track his movements in this environment. Before she figured she'd at least hear him, but he even managed to stop that. Rather than worry about that, she had objects fall all over the battlefield. There were enough gaps between them that it'd still be easy to dodge, but she varied where she dropped them enough that something should hit every point of the battlefield eventually. The downside was that as long as this smoke was here she couldn't see most of what she was dropping, so she couldn't pick it back up like before. The battlefield would start to get cluttered with small rocks and bits of wood after awhile. Unlike before, she didn't dare drop anything heavy when she could barely see like this, so he would be able to close on her in melee if he felt like trying.
"What makes you dislike this tactic?"

Bolide cursed himself for not factoring in a position change on the later two needles. Because of it, both had missed their intended mark and the effectiveness of his attack had suffered greatly. He could still sense three of his flames in that area, however, which meant only one of his pins had been dematerialized. The first, as it were. Odd. The only thing that had changed was the smoke cloud - Solomon saw two likely explanations; the denser particles in the air made it more difficult for Aurora to dematerialize the needles, or the point of the cloud, to impair vision, had interfered with her power. The fact that a needle had been dematerialized disproved the first, meaning Aurora’s power likely had something to do with sight. He would make note of this.
The clink of something on the ground beside him startled his attention momentarily away from Aurora. Objects were falling - which meant he’d best keep moving if he didn’t want to get hit. At least he wouldn’t have to worry as much about being quiet, so long as his footfalls didn’t sound too different from the rocks hitting the ground.
Speaking could not be mistaken for falling rocks, but he felt obligated to answer her question. It was important. “It feels cheap and underhanded.” He called, speaking quickly. Just as quickly afterwards, he teleported to a different part of the field. It was a pain, but he couldn’t let her pinpoint his location for too long. “If I’m fighting for something I believe in,” he teleported again, “against someone who also believes in what they’re fighting for,” and once more, “I don’t want to fight like-”
Rather than by a teleport, Bolide was suddenly cut off as a piece of wood fell on the unguarded back of his neck. Bolide toppled forward, landing with an ‘oomph’ on the ground. His head hit the cushions in the front of his helmet. It was enough to knock it the rest of the way free, and so the helmet made its escape into the smoke. The glow of the wires made it easy to spot a short ways ahead of him, but he’d already made his location too known. He didn’t have time to grab it.
Bolide vanished and reformed on his feet at the edge of the smoke cloud, in the vicinity of Aurora’s left. He needed to keep the pressure up on Aurora, which meant he needed to attack again, and soon. The needles had worked better than anything else before, but that was too predictable, wasn’t it? He’d need another new tactic. Something she wouldn’t be expecting.
He did have one idea. Bolide took a deep breath, lit his right fist with the white flame, and readied himself. He’d have to act immediately after the teleport if he wanted any chance at this working.
Bolide vanished, reappearing inches before Aurora, arm already raised, and swung. This plan was chosen only partially because Solomon wanted to punch a faction leader in the face.
