Name: Yulia Sokolov
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Occupation: Highschool student
Face Claim: Umi Ryuuzaki from Magic Knight Rayearth
Appearance:
Standing at 5'9”, Yulia's frame is narrow and lanky. More unkind people might refer to her body type as a 'beanpole.' That is, she grew upwards, leaving almost nothing to grow outwards. As a result, she has narrow shoulders, a small bust, and even narrower hips. The rest of her body follows suit. While no part of her body is disproportionately large compared to the rest of her, she has fairly large hands and feet with long fingers and toes. Her hair is a bright blue and reaches her mid thigh when not tied back.
Her clothing tends to be simple, though not always completely practical. In warmer weather, she favors simple sun dresses in lighter colors. She likes it when they have a few ruffles and ribbons, but doesn't like having too much decoration. In the end, she still wants to be able to get dressed relatively quickly. In warmer weather, she likes simple oversized sweaters and either dark colored slacks or jeans. Even though she prefers things simple, it's important to her to always look nice. As a result, she rarely wears anything more casual than jeans and a button-up shirt.
Skills:
Track: Yulia used to be part of her school's track team. Her favorite events were hurdles and the long jump, but she also did quite well with short distance sprinting. She recently dropped from the team in order to work on her studies.
Gardening: She's always loved nature and the outdoors. She hikes and goes walking less than she used to, but she still makes a point of planting trees around the city, and maintains a flower garden in her family's back yard. She's also hoping to grow some vegetables, and maybe even some fruit trees, when they're in season.
Music: Yulia is a decent singer, though she can't sing in front of people at all. Instead, she records herself in her closet, then distorts her voice. She has a synthesizer of her own, and composes a lot of her own music with it. Most of it's electronic, though she throws in the occasional song that's mostly made with sampled string interments. She puts her work up on YouTube, but she doesn't get many viewers, mostly due to not knowing how to advertise it.
Technology: Yulia specializes more on the hardware end, using that knowledge to aid her music too. She doesn't know much about programming outside of auto-tune, but with enough time and access to Google, she can put together simple machines, and fix most any computer if it has a hardware issue.
Observant: She can pick out details that most people would miss easily. While she's not always good at remembering some of the more obvious things, like color, Yulia can pick out even the most minute of details and remember them later. If someone has a nervous twitch, she'll notice it almost immediately. If someone seems nervous, or of their heart is beating faster than normal, she'll pick up on that, often even if the person is good at hiding that. As a result, she's also very good at telling when people are lying. She's also very good at judging distances.
Reading: While academics has never been her strong point in general, Yulia's always enjoyed reading. She's able to read fast and remember details easily. She tends to prefer simple stories because when things get too complicated, the story tends to go over her head.
Russian: Russian is her first language, so it's not surprising that she'd know it well. Yulia moved to Emerald City early enough in her life, that she was able to pick up English quickly, and doesn't have a noticeable accent. Sadly, she hasn't had much luck with learning other languages.
Personality: Yulia is a very kind and gentle person. She tends to put other peoples' feelings before her own, as seeing someone unhappy or in distress is worse to her than actually being unhappy or in distress herself. She goes out of her way to help people, even people she doesn't necessarily think deserves it. As a result, she tends to stress herself out by taking on too many projects at once. It's just in her nature to try to make everything better.
That's not to say she's a total pushover though. While she will help people who are mean to her or others, if someone is obviously taking advantage of her, or making her hurt others, she will often stop helping that person. It still hurts to do so on some level, but being taken advantage of is worse. Her desire to help people also means that she often feels the need to tell people what they don't want to hear. Yulia makes sure to be as tactful as possible, often speaking in overly flowery or vague language when it comes to more sensitive subjects, but she doesn't want to just let people make obviously bad decisions either. In the end, she figures if she does it right, telling them the truth would do less damage in the long run than telling them what they want to hear. If it's a minor thing, such as their breath smelling bad, she will lie to them more often than not though. Having a little bit of bad breath won't hurt anyone too badly, whereas trying to encourage someone not to do their homework because that's what they want to hear might hurt them more in the end.
Yulia has a strong sense of responsibility. If she says she's going to do something, she will make sure it happens no matter what. Even if it means not being able to finish her own work, even if it means she has to not sleep for a few days. She is outright obsessive at not letting anyone down for any reason. She wants to be someone that all people can count on, someone that people can lean on if they need help. As such, she rarely outright promises people things. She takes her promises extremely seriously, and will only promise something if she's sure she can achieve it. The word is practically a binding contract when it comes to her.
Yulia is an optimistic person, and generally sees the best in all people. No matter how much a person hurts her, she's willing to forgive them. She may not want to be around them still, but she won't dwell on it. She'll let them move past it even if they give her a reason to believe they've genuinely changed or are genuinely sorry. Even though she's not the most intelligent person on the planet, she understands that life is complicated. She doesn't understand it at all after all. It's not easy to just label someone as good or bad, or the actions they take the same way. Everyone has a reason for doing something, even bad things. She considers just dismissing people because they made mistakes, or tend to be rather mean, as outright cruel.
She's nervous about the future. Believing that her entire future rests on how well she performs in highschool, she works very hard to keep her grades up. Yulia's also a bit distressed that she doesn't even know what she wants to do when she grows up yet. Everyone around her seems to have everything so well together that part of her's worried she's just going to end up a useless burden on society. For now, she's just taking things one step at a time. She wants to do well in highschool so she can go to college. She only hopes she'll figure out the next step once she gets there.
