It was early in the afternoon on Sunday. Normally, Yulia would be catching up on that seemingly never ending pile of homework that she had, but it was so nice out today that it would be a shame to stay indoors all day. She knew that wasting time out here would mean that she'd be panicking tonight in order to get all that work done, but right now it was worth it. Whether or not it would be later was another thing entirely, but that was a problem for her future self. One moment of irresponsibility probably wouldn't kill anyone.
The park was pleasant, but there was some tension in the air. A few bushes and trees had been utterly annihilated about a week ago and no one was quite sure what happened. People avoided that part of the park, and Yulia was doing the same. It made the part of the park she actually wanted to be in that much more crowded. Lots of people were out with their children, or their dogs, and there were more than a few people even having a picnic. The crowd made her a bit uneasy, but the simple joy she got from being able to spend some time outside again overwrote that fear. Even so, it was difficult to move around without bumping into someone, forcing her to stick to the outskirts of the park as disappointing as that was.
There was one thing that could make up for that though. In the corner of the park, there was a small locally run ice cream and popsicle stand. Yulia wasn't sure where they got their ice cream, but it was always really good. The line was even short for once, it was her lucky day. She got in line, standing a little further back from the person in front of her than most people did. After a few minute's wait, it was her turn. She opted to get a small cone of strawberry ice cream, with a little bit of whipped cream on top. As she grabbed the cone, her mood got even better than it already was, and it was already pretty good. With a small smile on her face, she paused at the counter and looked up at the server.
"If it's okay, I'd like to pay for the person behind me too."
Most of the items on the menu weren't that expensive. Yulia didn't have much money, but she also didn't have that much to spend it on. About the only things she wanted to buy right now was some expensive sound equipment, which was expensive enough that it would take years to save up for, better to just wait until her birthday or Christmas, and some vegetable and flower seeds, which she could easily afford even with spending a bit of extra on some ice cream. Hopefully the small gesture would brighten the person's day, and hopefully they wouldn't take one of the more expensive items. She wasn't sure she'd be able to afford some of the more extravagant frozen goods.

Edgar let out another yawn and wipe off the tiredness off his eyes. He spent another all-nighter last night once again, and the due date for his report drawn closer, but he couldn’t finish it before he slump over the keyboard from exhaustion. Usually he could complete a writing work fairly quickly, but just when it right at the most importance part, he suffered from a huge writer-block that he can’t get out of his head. Once the alarm that morning woke him up, he stared at the computer screen once again, but the block isn’t going away. He leaned back and let out a long sigh before go change into one of his colorful Hawaiian shirt, his black camera around his shoulder and his lucky fedora before he walked out the door. “Perhaps a stroll in the park would help” he thought to himself, "who know, I might find some more cool photo."
And that’s how he finds himself standing in line for an ice-cream stand; it wasn’t that hot in that Sunday afternoon, but a nice and cold Popsicle can perhaps cool his head down and get rid of the dumb writer-block. Luckily the line isn’t too long, and the girl in front of him is just about to finish with his order. The girl seems fairly young with long blue hair; from the looks of it, she seems to be enjoying the Sunday afternoon. But who could blame her: the day isn’t too hot or too cold, and the sun tends to bring a smile on anyone’s faces. He really hopes the people in the park would feel the same way, especially after what happen last week at the park.
“If it’s okay, I’d like to pay for the person behind me too.” The girl said to the server as soon as she got her treat. Edgar looked at her rather confuse on what she suggesting to the server:
“Oh, it is quite alright, young lady, you don’t have to do that” he told her, “You should save that money for later.” He hope it wasn't rude of him denying the girl's generosity, but in this kind of situation he should be a gentleman.

Once the person working the counter nodded at her request, Yulia turned to face the person behind her with a smile on her face. The smile faded somewhat when he refused her offer, but she made an effort not to show how disappointed she was. The person looked like an adult, and she was just a highschool student. It probably felt weird for an adult to take money from teenagers, given most adults have their own income and teenagers really don't.
"Are you sure? I've got plenty of money, so you don't have to worry about that."
That was the last time she intended to offer. The last thing she wanted to do was hold up the line, and stop the very person she was trying to be nice to from getting the treat they wanted in the first place. Her own ice cream was starting to melt a little bit unsurprisingly, and she didn't want to spend so much time convincing this guy to take her money that she didn't even get to enjoy her own ice cream.

Edgar truly doesn’t know what he should do; he notices the girl’s smile slightly fade when he denied her generosity, it make him feel bad for refusing her offer like that. He’s unsure about what to do for this type of situation: he could keep insist on the idea that she didn’t have to pay for him, but he also doesn’t like the idea that he made her feel disappointed. Of course he doesn’t want to over-thinking on this situation for too long: they’re holding up the line right now, and he doesn’t want to be rude to the other people there either. That, and the girl’s strawberry ice-cream started to melt; he wouldn’t want to deny the girl’s enjoyment of tasting the sweet, cold ice-cream fresh off the machine.
Then, he has an idea: he could let the girl pay for his ice-cream now so that he wouldn’t hold up the line and stalling the girl from enjoying her ice-cream. Then once they finish their treat, he could pay her the cost of the ice-cream. After all, he learned that you should repay other people’s kindness as soon as you can. With that idea in mind, he put his hand in his pants’ pocket to get his wallet ready.
Only then that he realized something’s missing; he checks his other pockets to make sure he isn’t just misplace it, but after a short sudden realization, he mentally slaps his forehead, dumbfounded because of this silliness. ‘Well, this is embarrassing,’ he thought to himself; who would have thought that he forgot his bloody wallet back in his apartment. Guess his head was so focusing on the writer-block issue he had that the idea of picking up his wallet somehow slipped through his mind. Bloody hell, how can he remember to bring his camera out in the park, but completely forgot to picking up his wallet too? Well, at least life gave him no other choice:
“Um, okay, if you insist,” he said, trying his best to hide his embarrassment or sounding ungrateful.
With that being the case, he looks at the menu and picks out one of the cheapest ice-cream among them. He’ll be sure to repay this to her in some way; the girl did managed to save him from his embarrassment of having no money to pay for the man behind the counter, and it’s only right to thanks her properly for that.

Yulia smiled again when he accepted her offer. Based on how he was looking around from something, she got the feeling she just saved this person from something embarrassing. It made the entire thing feel even better, and was proof that more people should do random good deeds. Though, when she saw what he ordered, she really hoped that's what he actually wanted rather than only picking it because it was the cheapest item on the menu.
She pulled out the money necessary to pay for it, taking a moment to count out the exact change even. When she leaned forward, her own ice cream flopped out of the cone and right onto the sleeve of the man she was paying for's shirt. Perhaps the ice cream melted a little bit too much, or perhaps Yulia squeezed the cone a little bit too hard. Regardless, she was horrified. She took a step back with her eyes wide and reached for some of the napkins on the ice cream stand.
"I am SO sorry," Yulia reached for the strawberry ice cream with a napkin to scoop it up, her head down to hide her own embarrassment.

A small chocolate frosty, that’s what he picked out from the menu. It’s cheap enough, so the girl didn’t have to pay too much for it, and it’s also his favorite flavor. He only need something sweet and cool anyway, so it doesn’t really matter what he pick out from the menu anyway as long as there’s chocolate in it. The girl smile when he accepted her offer, so at least that make him glad he can make her feel happy again.
But when she accidentally stained his shirt with her slowly-melting ice-cream, she looks really horrified. She tried to scoop up the ice-cream with the napkin while apologized to him:
“No, it’s quite alright,” he reassured her, “this shirt is due for a wash anyway, so please don’t apologize. I’m sorry I took too long and cause your ice-cream to melt, so it’s my fault to begin with.”
“Can you two hurry it up?” the man behind him said, “some of us are waiting you know.”
“Oh, I’m terribly sorry,” Edgar said to him. He then helped the girl scooping up the ice-cream:
“Here, let’s me give you a hand. We better hurry before more people become impatient.”

Yulia doubted her ice cream spilled just because it was warming up. She could feel a large crack running up the cone, and some of the remaining icre cream in it seeping out of it and onto her hand, but she wasn't going to say anything about it. There was no point in arguing. The people behind them were starting to get agitated to, not that she could blame them.
"R-Right..."
Yulia quickly disposed of the rest of the cone and cleaned off her hands, before grabbing a few more napkins to clean up the rest of the mess. She let the man clean himself up. Between the two of them and the person running the stand, it wouldn't be too long before she could get out of there. Once the stand was clean, she looked down, put her hands behind her back, and started backing up slowly.
"So--" she caught herself, remembering the man's words. "Um...H-Have a nice day!"
With that, she bowed her head slightly and started stiffly walking away. Part of her wanted to run, but there were way too many people in the park for that. Yulia's face flushed from the embarrassment and awkwardness of that encounter. The worst part was she wouldn't even get to have her own ice cream.

Edgar feels really bad about this: the girl spent her money for two ice-creams, but didn’t get a chance to eat any of them. He felt responsible for this: after all, if he didn’t dragged the time out for too long, or if he had accepted her kind offering in the first place, maybe she would have a chance to enjoy her ice-cream without any complication. Seeing the girl flustered and agitated because of this, it just doesn’t feel right to have her leave like that. He looked at the chocolate frosty in his hand for a short moment:
“Hey, waits up!” he shouted and make his way toward her. Once he managed to catch up with the girl, he handed her the frosty:
“Here; you did pay for it. I’m sorry you didn’t have a chance to eat your ice-cream, so I hope this can cheer you up. I am truly grateful for your kind offer from before, so I hope you'll accept this as my thanks and my apology.”
Once he handed the girl the frosty, he waved goodbye to her as he take his leave: “Cheer up, okay?” he told her, “Even if the world seems to be unfair, just know that tomorrow will be a better day.”

Yulia was surprised when he approached her. She looked over her shoulder, and was even more surprised when he started to hand over his ice cream. He didn't have to do that, she would make it through the day just fine without anything. The moment she turned around and opened her mouth, she immediately closed it. No, he didn't have to give it to her, just like she didn't have to buy it for him. It was a simple act of kindness and should be appreciated. Her lips curled into a small smile, and after a moment's hesitation, took the ice cream.
"Thank you. I really appreciate it."
Yulia looked down after his last comment. She wasn't sure if she believed him. Ever since starting high school, life had only gotten harder, and there weren't any signs that it would get easier. There were so many things outside of her control right now that she was having a hard time dealing with it all. That wasn't to say it was all bad. She met a lot of people she liked, her singing and composing ability had improved dramatically, and she had a bit more freedom. As much as she was apprehensive about believing tomorrow would be any better, it was a nice sentiment, and one she should probably hold onto. It was impossible to do everything at once, she just had to take it one step at a time.
"Yeah," she nodded.
She looked around for a moment for an empty bench, and managed to find one nearby. Yulia always found it a little weird to sit that close to people, so finding an empty one was always preferable when possible. Once she was seated, she started to eat the ice cream. It wasn't quite as good as strawberry, but it was still pretty tasty. It was nice to have a moment to enjoy the sun and a nice treat.
