Lobisomem lay curled in a filthy alleyway, eyes wide as emotions they hadn't felt in a long while washed over them. They could smell Unhallow's blood on their snout, along with a sickening amount of their own blood steadily increasing. Unhallow's power had destroyed their face, frankly it was a small miracle Lobisomem thought they'd heal, and they knew that a bullet was in them somewhere. Blood was splattered over their side where the hound had attempted to find the bullet, but by now they had clearly given up, choosing to instead wallow in pain. I nearly killed a human, and I was going to eat them, wasn't I?Lobisomem couldn't only imagine what would have happened should their victims had been civilians, well, they wouldn't be starving right now, that's for sure... You tried to protect someone, what a fucking joke!

It was difficult getting past the police, but sheer determination (and a bit of panicked sprinting) had been enough to get him out of those swarming couple of blocks. Blue Jay had a wolf to find, and a couple of angry adults with flashlights and overly bright cars were not going to stop him. Once he was past the worst of it, Blue Jay let himself slow to a fast (now limping) walk. He kept himself vigilant, looking for any signs as to where the super had disappeared to. Blue Jay didn’t care if it took him all night, or all day tomorrow; he needed to find them.
At some point he realized the Bulwark HQ was only a few blocks away. Taking the slight detour, Blue Jay walked into the HQ with nothing on his mind but getting out of there as quickly as possible. He didn’t say hello to anyone as he usually did, nor did he bother grabbing a new set of clothes. He took a first aid kit and a set of keys and, stepping onto the paired motorcycle, drove off into the quiet city night.
Blue Jay technically had his license, but reliance on his much faster power and the public transportation system meant he hadn’t sat behind the wheel of something for quite some time. This was clearly evident in his driving. It was a good thing that, between the time and the recent battle, the streets were fairly empty. Enough of his concentration was on searching and so little of it on how much he was swerving and how fast he was going that otherwise he probably would have crashed into someone.
He very nearly missed the wolf super in the alleyway. It was only because of the smell of blood and a large mass caught in the corner of his eye that he recognized them as he flew past. Making a dangerous and immediate U-turn, Blue Jay veered the motorcycle around and came to a park on the sidewalk beside the alley. He jumped off the bike, not bothering with the stand and letting it fall to the ground.
Blue Jay paused at the mouth of the alleyway. It was no doubt them; the large mix of dragon and wolf was unmistakable, even in the darkness, but it was a sad scene to come upon. They were just curled there, in a pool of their own blood. His eyes widened, but not in fear.
“Shit.” Blue Jay gasped. “Shit, you’re hurt.”
He paced quickly to the super’s side. Dropping to his knees beside them, he opened the first aid kit beside him. His hands worked quickly. Pulling out a roll of gauze, he cut himself a large chunk and, more concerned with stopping the bleeding as quickly as possible than the formalities of offering to help first, pressed it to the gunshot wound. He kept pressure applied with his palm. “You’ve made it worse.” He noted quietly of the wound.

Lobisomem flicked up their ears as the hum of a motorcycle registered, grumbling as they expected it to fade away. Confusion flooded their brains as the sounds stopped and somebody started toward them, a police man, or just a curious bystander?
They started to push themselves up, narrowing their eyes at the possible danger, but eased themselves back down at who it really was...Blue Jay!?
The first aid kit bewildered them even more, was someone hurt? Turns out, it was for them! They let out a pained hiss as he pressed a bunch of bandages to their side, drawing away from the touch.
No, don't worry, I always heal, I'll be fine!
Panic was clear on their face, as if still reliving the scene back there. They opened their mouth, growling as they felt their destroyed skin rip further, they stumbled through what sounded like various words before settling on a simple, "Why?"

Blue Jay recoiled away as Lobisomem did the same. While he was used to taking care of his own injuries, Blue Jay was not accustomed to those belonging to others. The air was thick with the smell of blood, and their wounds were not a pretty sight. He felt queasy. But, no matter how much his gut said he should get out of there, he couldn’t. He had to help Lobisomem.
Why? “Because we’re allies, that’s why.” He said as he began rolling out another bandage. “I can’t let you bleed out in some godforsaken alleyway. A real ally wouldn’t do that.”
A real ally wouldn’t attack their fellow without warning either. Blue Jay tensed at the thought of the previous day, how he’d perfidiously hit the super with his sword. The fact that he regretted it didn’t change that it’d happened.
Taking an uneasy breath, he tried to push the thought aside. This was more important right now. “Hold still. We’ve got to stop the bleeding.” He spoke through clenched teeth, and again made to press the bandages to the wound.

A strain of amusement mixed with disbelief glittered in Lobisomem's eyes, allies!? They couldn't help it, a roaring laugh burst out of their mouth. So what if their body screamed in agony? It was funny!
They clamped their jaws shut to prevent any further outbursts, quietly thinking back at his assist to the bank robbery...Why'd he help them then? Their eyes dimmed as they considered the question, finding no real answer.
They glanced at the bandages being pressed onto their side, flooding with almost black blood, this wasn't working! They almost moved forward to help apply pressure...and stopped, they weren't in human form!
The first-aid kit looked useful enough, judging by the smell of various medical supplies emanating from the little box. They swung a foreleg out, pawing the box closer till their night vision could precieve the outlines and some words.
Bandages...guaze...geez, there were a ton of things in here! Perfect! But I can't use it in this form!
They actually knew what to do, but Blue Jay was going to see their humanoid form! Whatever, if he was an ally, he wouldn't say anything! They tried to convey this train of thought the best they could, waving their head in an attempt to tell him to back up a little.
They checked the alley, pushing themselves to the lighter area, where they were less likely to transform spontaneously, and started easing their body to release this form.
They were expecting it to hurt, transforming back while hurt always did, but not like this. A shocked scream ripped from their now human mouth, muffled by the dog snout they wore over their face, which was dripping so much they could barely see!
They instantly pushed themselves against the wall, leaning foward as they pressed purposely on the bandages before adding a new layer. It was near impossible to see the wounds or their face, as they made sure the black pelt was always around their shoulders.
They glanced over and removed the dog snout, revealing a strained smile with red teeth as they waved a bloodied hand.

“Don’t laugh, I’m serious.” Blue Jay sighed as got up and stepped back from the super. He had figured they had a humanoid form - had seen glimpses of it at the news station - but he was not prepared for the scream they made as they transformed. The tension returned in full to Blue Jay’s shoulders. He couldn’t imagine what it would be like if every time he used his powers he had to go through no small amount of pain. It would take so much willpower to do supering at all, let alone every day.
But he assumed they knew best for themselves, and settled in response with a hesitant wave back, returning to sit again on the ground. He’d been feeling it for a while now, but the pain in his leg and chest was starting to catch up with him. As he pulled his ruined hoodie over his head, he realized he hadn’t bothered to check the damage yet.
Hesitantly, he pulled up his pants leg. He could tell to some degree because of the color of his pants, but the entire outer side of his calf had been skinned on the pavement, almost from his ankle to knee cap. He gazed absently at the red welling up in the large scratches.
“That’s a lot worse than I thought it was.” He muttered. He reached for the kit, pulling from it a cleansing pad and another roll of bandages. The other super seemed like they could take care of their own wounds, so it was probably about time he got to taking care of his own.
“Hey, are you okay?” He asked, wincing as he dabbed at his leg with the antiseptic wipe. “You… really didn’t look good when you ran off there. I don’t just mean your injuries.”

Lobisomem blinked heavily at the sight of Blue Jay's own injuries, averting their eyes before he could get any look at their face. "You...'k?" They asked cautiously, limiting their voice till it was scratchy and nearly indescribable from a growl, a little technique to keep their voice hidden.
They busied themselves by pulling up the wolf pelt draped over them to check their uninjured side, confirming their suspicions, there was no exit wound, they were stuck with a fucking bullet!
They slumped as Blue Jay brought up how they had done something unlike themselves, nearly killing a person. Shock filled their system as a shaky breath followed this thought, quickly followed with wiping at their face, why were they so upset over this!? "Don't...know...I don't know." They hissed out, closing their eyes and pressing their head against their knees, "I...ran, I couldn't take it!'

“I’m fine enough.” Blue Jay said slowly, his focus on wrapping his leg. “I’ve had worse.”
This was a half truth. He’d limped home feeling far more sore than he did currently, but on pulling his shirt up to see his chest, a dark and bloody purple, he realized these were not the one or two day injuries he was used to. But, shouldn’t then he be feeling the pain of them? He gave it a moment of distant thought, but came up dry. His mind was too preoccupied with all that had and was still happening.
Their voice was obviously pained. Blue Jay stopped what he was doing to look up at the super, their posture painting a similar picture. He felt his gut twist. No, they weren’t okay. Getting up, he walked up to the wall of the alleyway and, paying the blood on the ground no mind, settled down beside them.
“Is something up?” He asked, attempting to make eye contact. Obviously something was up, but what, he wasn’t sure. The super had attacked Unhallow with a wrath he hadn’t seen in them before. “What happened?” His voice was more concerned than accusatory. It was a fight - stuff happened.

Lobisomem no longer looked at Blue Jay, instead staring at the ground as if there was something very important to see there, but they could hear him stepping closer. Still, it came as a shock when he sat right next to them.
A sharp gasp sounded from underneath the pelt as they flinched, shuffling away a few inches. A single eye stared at the boy next to them, even in the darkness its red hue stood out. It widened at Blue Jay's question, disappearing as Lobisomem turned away, hugging their tail uncertaintly.
Yeah, like I'm going to tell him that I wanted to eat them. He'll be running for the hills. Be better if he did, I wouldn't have to help anymore, how'd I even get involved with a Bulwark?
One hand released their side, cupping at their face, fuck it. "I'm...hungry." They growled, hoping this boy would be smart enough to figure out the implications, "I-I didn't eat tonight...and...and I was angry at them and...They just smelled so good!" Their words notably became less simple as shame coated their admittance, whereupon they curled into a little ball, expecting to hear little footsteps running away from a beast.

They were hungry? Did that mean… they had been trying to eat Unhallow? Blue Jay paused, letting this information sink in. Things were starting to make some degree of sense - how they’d attacked Unhallow, the pain in their eyes, even now - and was that part of their powers? Did they, as their transformed, wolf-like self, hunger for flesh? Human flesh? This, what they were expressing now, couldn’t be anything other than contempt for the fact. This couldn’t be willing - how much control over themselves did they have?
Did that mean he was in danger? Would they turn on him; try to eat him? He couldn’t keep these thoughts from his mind. Nor, even with his own powers, could he say he felt completely safe. He’d seen what this super could do; the sheer power behind their attacks.
Perhaps someone else would’ve ran at this revelation, disassociate themselves with someone who posed such a threat. But… he could see how much this was hurting them. He couldn’t abandon them over something like this.
Instead, Blue Jay put his hand on the super’s shoulder. “It’s okay.” He said softly. “We’ve all got our demons.” No one asked for their powers, let alone the nasty side effects that came along with them. It wasn’t their fault if those side effects were being hungry, possibly for humans. They shouldn’t be blamed for having to deal with that. “Besides, you stopped yourself, didn’t you?”
Blue Jay’s gaze drifted up. The sky was a dark black, unlit save for the moon and a passing plane. The city’s lights blocked out all but the brightest of stars. It was quiet enough in the back alley that he could hear the sound of the plane above. “That’s more than a lot of unpowereds can say, you know? We all face temptations and pain. A lot of us give in.” His voice was quiet, just loud enough to be heard by the person beside him. “Thank you for not giving in.”

Wow, he isn't running yet? Can't tell if he's brave or just stupid and-what's this!?
They stared at the hand on their shoulder, ok, he had to be stupid! Who else but a complete idiot would touch Lobisomem!?
Their breath shortened as Blue Jay talked, thank you for not giving in, Who just said things like that!? And why were they listening? They felt their lips curl up, yet tried desperately to keep neutral.
"Ugh...tch, t-thank you..." He was that hero from Bulwark, right? "...Blue Jay..."

He simply nodded, letting a moment of silence pass. “And.. sorry for yesterday.” He said timidly. He’d been sitting on the coals of the car chase ever since he’d seen the super again, and though he didn’t really want to face what had happened, he knew he had to. Still, he found himself unable to make eye contact.
He stared down at his hands. “You’ve done nothing but help me. You’re not even a Bulwark, but you fought along side me in the park and at that news station. You even saved my stupid butt back at the trainyard. And how do I thank you?” He clenched his fists and jaw, his mind replaying the events of the previous day. Yes, it was a fight, and everything was happening so fast, but that was hardly an excuse for attacking an ally. He exhaled loudly and released the tension in his hands. “Some friend I am. I’m so sorry.”

Lobisomem had been waiting to revisit the subject of the car chase, just, never like this. A surge of anger bubbled up and they spat a gob of blood onto the ground, followed by a long, low rumble. They forced their lips over their fangs, imagining the brief moment of Blue Jay throwing his sword at them.
They were unable to mask their other growls as he brought up their previous battles, but their slowly increasing anger was also filled with a little confusion. They had helped, and Blue Jay had helped, so what was with that!?
Their growling stopped instantly at the apology, replaced by a pitched whine. They knew why he apologized, but most of nobody apologized to them of all...people?...creatures?
Super...I'm a super...not a person...a beast...maybe a dragon...I just terrorize the city every hunger pang. If anything, the city deserved my apologies!
The apology clearly shook through their core, judging by the fact their tail slammed the ground hard enough to crack it and their heart beat so fast that the blood pumping toward their wounds oozed out faster than before. Was the apology sincere? Having never gotten a real one before, Lobisomem simply stared at second, going still.
These thoughts raced through in an instant, obvious only by their clear discomfort at the apology, "Rrr, I...don't..." Their eyes flitted around, mouth gaping as they tried to find a good reason to be mad, but simply getting mad at themselves, "It's fine, just fine...shit happens...Why'd it happen?"

Blue Jay was seriously scared they wouldn’t accept his apology. He wouldn’t blame them - he couldn’t blame them - if they didn’t. He was even more scared when they slammed their tail down on the ground. He’d adjusted to their growling, but this made him visibly jump. Was he afraid of being attacked? Not really - if they had wanted to do that, they would’ve already. Probably. Right?
He tried to push those thoughts from his mind. It was natural to feel nervous around someone as powerful as them, but he tried to imagine if everyone he knew, even his friends, never let their guard down around him.
That’s what they were: a friend. He shouldn’t fear them.
As they began to speak, he was afraid they were yell at him or tell him to piss off. Instead, they forgave him. Blue Jay looked up at the super, his eyes wide. Silently, his gaze drifted back down to his hands. A thin smile came to his lips. They wanted an explanation, but just the fact that they’d accepted his apology was enough for him.
He exhaled. “I really suck at not causing collateral damage. I try my best to prevent it, but I still have trouble being precise enough to hit just my target. That’s fine when there’s only buildings around, but when there’s lots of civilians, like on the highway, traveling really fast, that’s how people get killed.” He pulled his knees closer to his chest. “I’m not saying you and other supers aren’t careful, but when I saw you and Nightflyer engage, I saw a car crash. People dieing.” His fists clenched. Even with his efforts, there had been a few close calls. Blue Jay remembered the children in the minivan they had pulled up beside. It was a miracle no one had been killed.
Blue Jay sighed, relaxing his hands and shoulders. “I didn’t know how to stop that without fighting, I guess. Looking back on it now, I should’ve just said something. Explained it, or, I don’t know, something. I shouldn’t have attacked you. So, I’m sorry.”

Lobisomem tilted their head, "People were crashing?" They tried to recall seeing anyone crash, but the only memory they could bring up was the red fog that accompanied their anger, and chasing after a sports car. There was no recollection of causing a crash.
At the same time, their stomach flipped, what if they killed somebody? They couldn't stand simply punching someone and seeing the aftermath, they could only imagine how they'd feel if they saw someone die because of them, or if they'd feel something at all.
They shook their head sadly at Blue Jay's insistence he should have said something, "Wouldn't have...heard you...too mad." If they were anywhere near as angry as they were tonight, Blue Jay was just lucky they didn't bite him that day, it was unfortunately possible.
Their side was getting numb, whether that was a good thing or not would have to be discovered in the morning. Whether it would heal in time was already obvious, they wouldn't heal by morning, that was clear. Hopefully, they could hide it. They took an experimental breath and grimaced as it flamed momentarily in pain, at least they could still feel it.
They shifted to eliminate the pain, careful not to tear open their wound more, "Person I bit...alive?" They were asking about Unhallow more to assure themselves more than to make sure the villain was alive, they hadn't stuck around long enough to see if Unhallow had made it away from the attack.
