Edgar returned Kasey's toast with his latte mug before taking a sip. The blend between coffee's bitterness and the cream's sweetness are truly wonderful. Though the weather out there isn't cold to enjoy a warm mug of latte, it still nice to feel the warm feeling inside after a long day in class. Though Alex's opinion wasn't wrong, it isn't very close of being peaceful around here.
"I wouldn't say it bad right now, but people do feel worry about the increasing of supers activity. You must have read the news, right? I mean, because of people's paranoia to supers power, people leave themselves vulnerable for swindler like that "normification tonic" advertisement in the news. Not to mention the city of Seaside got quarantine without much explanation was given. I'm sure that deep down, despite people's care-free demeanor, they are truly worry about what might happen with the world in the future."
He take another sip of his latte before he gave a soft smile and scratching the back of his neck:
"Sorry, I didn't mean to brought the mood down. Don't mind me rambling about the news; habit of being a journalist, I guess."

Kasey remains silent throughout Edgar's elaboration, letting him speaking his mind and finding that she would agree on some of it. There were a lot of strange things going on in the city, and some of them were definitely scary. People got desperate, and those kinds of thoughts lead to similar actions if one wasn't careful. She takes a sip of her affanato, expression thoughtful.
"I guess it depends on where people are coming from," she muses after another moment. "I mean, supers can be scary. We don't really know a lot about them. But there are plenty of jerks in the world without powers, and sometimes there's more going on in someone's life, so the supers situation is just another thing to add to a list of life's events.
"You're a journalist?" The thought steers her towards sunny curiosity again, away from darker topics.

Alex nodded when Kasey asked if Edgar was a journalist. He'd already known that from earlier when they had talked. But he'd leave it up to Edgar to go into more detail about his work if he wanted to. Alex didn't want to over step his bounds. He wasn't really sure where he fell on the whole super powered thing himself. Sure, he could see why it would be scary. But there was already crime without that. And most people were just as screwed against a super as they were against a mugger in an alleyway with a gun.
"They are still just people. I think people just freak out because of the presumed helplessness over hypothetical situations. I mean we like to think if we were mugged or attacked by someone normal we could defend ourselves. But we can't against a Super. Right? But I don't know about you guys, but I think if someone with a gun or a knife cornered me and demanded my wallet I'd hand it over just as fast as I would if it was a super."

"Well, you both have a point there," Edgar said to them, scratching the back of his head slightly, "I mean, there are some supers out there who going all out to help people too. I'm sure people simply afraid of them, which is why they don't trust supers that much. People might misunderstand them now, but perhaps in the future we all can get along once we get to understand each other."
He took a bite of the lemon bar before washing it down with the latte. He then turned toward Kasey:
"Well, I'm only free-lance, but yes, I'm a journalist. What about you, Kasey, what do you do?"

"Exactly." Kasey nods at Alex's explanation, thumbs running over the cool glass of her cup as he voices his opinion. It makes her think of other conversations she's had on the matter and though their perspectives came from different places, it seemed they could agree on some level. If you let someone have power over you out of fear, nothing good could come from it. Better to stand above it.
Her gaze goes from one man to another as Alex takes over, speaking a skeptical form of idealism. It seemed they generally agreed on the surface. She gives a small smile as the conversation turns back to her and the future. It was an entirely different unknown that what she faced when out on the town, and towered over her than most supers or their powers would.
"Well, I just graduated, but I'm looking into my options. Probably engineering or some sort of programming."

Alex just shrugged, not having much to add to the point about Supers, or about what Kasey was going to do with her future. That was all her, both of their jobs and futures were. And both sounded more glamorous than his job was, not that he minded. He just went about making himself busy cleaning the counter and straightening things up while there was a break in the business. Because there was always something to do, and if there was nothing to do then there was always something to clean. That's a truth he had learned very fast.

Edgar smiled while Alex started cleaning the table in the shop. He wondered if their conversation interrupting his job at the moment. Looking at the front counter, it’s a good thing that there’ no new customer entering the shop that would require Alex’s attention more than idle chit-chat. He then looked at Kasey:
“Engineering huh? That sound like a good thing to study for. Then I guess I know who to call for help when my desktop at home starts acting up. Are you thinking of enrolling for ECU? I haven’t checked the list of major or program it have, but there might be an engineering major or computer science major somewhere.”
He then turned to Alex, who still cleaning up the shop:
“Hope we’re not disrupting your work by having you talking to us like this.”

"Yup." Kasey shifts her weight to the other foot as they talk about her future. It's a common enough conversation; she's had it several times in the past year alone and could recite her interests and thoughts by heart. It was true, regardless, but sometimes the monotony did slip into her voice when she was tired. She couldn't find a way to explain that even if she had ideas and dreams, it felt out of reach and far away. People wanted her to have a plan now, but no one really talked about what happened if it was the wrong plan, or if she found something new.
"Probably. I help my mom with hers a lot," she admits with a laugh, recalling how she had to explain things to the woman who had raised her. "It's not really all that difficult once you get used to it." She gives a thoughtful hum and shrugs. "I'll probably go to ECU. I've been here my whole life, so I wouldn't mind a change, but it's not horrible or anything." She looks back at Alex, who's diligently cleaning while they take up space at the register.
"You going on break any time soon?"

"Oh you guys are fine. I talk to customers all the time. As long as I get my work done and don't make people wait around the managers don't really care all that much. They want us to be personable."
He said flashing them both a smile before glancing back up at the clock when Kasey asked if he was going to be going on break soon. It was a bit early for it to be honest, but he could probably get Jessica to cover for him today. They were pretty good about that most of the time.
"Yeah, I can probably take one in a few when my partner gets back from hers?"

Edgar simply smiled when Alex said he would be on break soon when the other employee returned. He took a look at the clock to see the time before finished off his lemon bar. The sun started to set and the building outside started to turn on the light, preparing for the night to fall.
“If that’s the case, I guess we will see you around the campus during fall quarter then.” He said after swallowing the lemon bar, “speaking of which, do either of you have any plan for the summer?”
Edgar didn’t really have much plan to do during the summer; he would always goes to his usual stand-by of going out in the park and taking pictures for his collection. Either that or started to work on his fictional story that he has been putting off for quite awhile now. Though he is interested to know what his two new friends planning to do during their summer break. He then turned to Alex:
"Beside working, I mean," he clarified, "Summer for me is pretty dull sometime with journalist work and all that."

"Sure." Kasey nods at Edgar's mention of campus. "I'll be around." She turns to Alex when he mentions the early break and shakes her head, lips pursed slightly.
"Well, it's up to you. If we're okay here, that's fine too. I just didn't want us to be in the way if someone else comes along." And then the conversation is back to school, a art of her life that continues to loom over her with foreboding. Ready or not, here comes the rest of your life.
"Is it really slow during summer? I mean, stuff still happens, right?"

"Oh yeah, I mean you guys are customers. It's not like we are timing how long it takes you to drink before we boot you out." He said with a small chuckle, straightening up some things behind the counter. Cups, syrups, and the like. "I wouldn't know, this is my first year back. And I might not be around much all summer. I haven't decided but I might take a long camping trip."
He'd give them both a polite smile. He wasn't sure how busy he was going to be with work and the like, so it was possible that no one would see a lot of Alex all summer. Though that was still up in the air, he was willing to let that play by ear.
"So I guess if you guys have something you want to do then you should speak up!" He teased.

Edgar just shrugged when Kasey asked him about how slow summer is for him:
“I’m not saying thing become peaceful during summer. I mean, I doubt criminals take their time off during summer vacation. I’m saying that during summer if you focus on work too much, you don’t have enough time to enjoy the day outside.”
Once he finished his coffee, Edgar checked the clock once again. He sighed when he remember he need to get back to his apartment soon to work on the story for the Laurel News station. The editor there had been giving him quite some hard time while getting himself ready for his vacation.
“Well, I better get back to my work before my editor started to complain again. Thanks for the coffee, Alex; it’s as good as you said it was. And it’s nice to meet you, Kasey.”
He took out his personal business card and gave it to her: "It's my personal contact info. I'll see you two around."
He took out some money from his wallet and put them in the tip jar before leaving the coffee shop. He waved good-bye to his new-found friends one last time as he exit through the door.
