Caffeine zombies; they were everywhere. Even if school was over, those who went about their days in a nine-to-five job needed that extra boost to get started. Sometimes Kasey wished she could just donate her own energy to give them a jump start so she could have some coherent conversation, but as it was, she took it upon herself not to shuffle in line with the dead-eyed stare of the sleep deprived.
She dips into a local cafe, holding the door open to let the last group of the morning rush hurry on to the rest of their day before heading closer to the counter and see if there are any last minute contenders for what she wants.

Behind the counter was a cheerful Alex, apron tied neatly and a melodious laugh flowing from his lips as the customer, a regular based on the causality of the conversation, finished telling his story. All without missing a beat Alex's hands worked the machinery like it was an extension of himself. Moment's later a perfect concoction was produced along with a sun made of foam floating on the top of the cup.
If possible his expression seemed to brighten when he spied Kasey entering. He'd give her a small wave of his hand as he passed the drink to the customer at the counter, bowing his head at the thanks and praise that he received.
"I can help whoever is next."

Friend alert! Kasey's expression brightens further at the sight of Alex behind the counter. Unable to help herself, she waves with a grin full of sunshine and makes her way over to the counter as the other customer finishes their anecdote.
"Good morning, sunshine!" she chimes as she steps up. Her smile lifts even more. "I see you're a morning person."

He nearly giggled at her comment, beaming in delight that she was next in line. "Oh, I'm an every time person." He winked at her and leaned forward against the counter, his hips moving and grooving to a rhythm that only he seemed to be hearing as he beamed at her. Seeing a familiar face was always a nice surprise, especially when they seemed to get along so well. Even without trying.
"So what can I get for you Darling?"

"I see. I'll have to remember that." She doesn't bother stifling her giggle, already happy with how the day has turned out. Whatever else might come her way, at least the day had an excellent start. Rocking back on her heels, Kasey gives a thoughtful hum and looks at the menu, then back at Alex.
"I'm in the mood for something different. Surprise me?" Barista's choice is sure to be worthwhile, and it's Alex, so there's a little extra trust in that.

"Hmmmm."
Surprise her, but he didn't know her well enough to have a sure bet on what she would like. He took a moment to look her over, thinking back to their first and last meeting. She was bubbly, energetic, and he was guessing that she would want something sweet. She didn't strike him as the type to drink something biter or tongue curdling. So sweet was a safe bet. Plus, it allowed him to show a little bit of flair, which was always fun. Had to keep the day going somehow.
"Alright, I think I have just the thing."
He said as he turned his back to her, getting to work on the drink. Starting with opening up a freezer and scooping in some gelato into a cup before drowning it in espresso before drizzling it with caramel. Finally sliding a spoon into the cup for her he placed the cup gently on the counter with a smile.
"So this is called Affogato."
He'd say before ringing up her total.

A promise is a promise, and Edgar was taught that he should keep his promise in any shape or form. Earlier that day he had promised a fellow student he met during his lunch time that he would pay his coffee shop a visit. So once class is finally over, he decided to look for the location of that coffee house and pay a visit. Looking up the name of the place on his phone, he managed to find the shop located somewhere in the downtown area of Emerald City. As soon as he open the door, he could smell the fresh blend of coffee ground and some small chatting of the customers.
Heading toward the counter to read what he should order, he noticed Alex working behind the counter, making coffee for the customer standing in front of him. Edgar slightly waved at Alex as soon as he can see him:
"Hello Alex," he said with a smile, "hope I'm not intrude."

Kasey offers Alex an encouraging smile as he ponders, wondering what he will come up with. Though they hadn't known each other long, she figured he might have a guess. After all, if he was an actor, he had to have a grasp on character and subtle hints, right? Beaming as he begins making the drink, she rocks up to the tips of her toes to try and see better., both for hints of what he was making as well as to admire the display he put on while doing so.
"It looks amazing!" Ice cream and coffee? It was like to wonderful worlds were able to meet for a brief, delicious union. The caramel tied it together, and a look of hope touches her face as he rings up her total. There was simply no way that it couldn't taste as perfect as it sounded.
Paying the total, she fishes in her pocket for an extra bill to tip him while taking an experimental sip. Her expression brightens to one of heavenly bliss, closing her eyes to savor the flavor until someone starts speaking behind her.
"That. Is. Divine." She blinks and hands him the tip, not wanting to hold up the other customer. She offers the newcomer an apologetic smile.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to be in the way." She steps to the side as she speaks, making way for him and looking around for any available tables.

He bowed his head at both her delight and the tip as she purchased her drink. The dazzling smile of his sparkled as he beamed at her, pleased that she had enjoyed his suggestion. There was always a certain amount of satisfaction from figuring out the perfect drink for someone.
When the door chimed again announcing another visitor to the little cafe he smiled and waved at the second familiar face to walk in. He hadn't expected Edgar to take him up on his offer so soon! That was actually pretty cool. He'd wave at him and motion for him over to the counter where he could help him.
"Hey Edgar. Still wanting to try the Latte I owe you? Or shall I make you something else today?"
Edgar obviously wasn't interrupting anything. This was a place of business after all. And both of them were valued customers.

"Sure," Edgar replied, "a Latte sound pretty nice right about now. It's on the house, right?"
Edgar chuckled from that; he doubt that Alex was serious about the idea that he own him a latte; if he did, then he need to get something as well to pay for them. He take another look at the menu above the counter. Some of the pastries up there seems to form a good complement with the latte. Checking his pocket to make sure he carry his wallet this time around, he was thinking of getting a small slice of lemon bar along with the latte that Alex would make for him.
When the woman make way for him to approach the counter, Edgar leaned in to speak to Alex when he saw her begin to look around for a table.
"Didn't know you can be such a charmer, Alex," he whispered to him, making sure the woman didn't hear him, "Hope I'm not interrupting you two."

The young woman is oblivious to the whispering behind her, gaze lingering on the stools set on the other side of the coffee bar. It seemed a good a place as any, sun peeking through the shades on the window and close enough to chat without dragging her new friend away from other customers as they came along. The next decision was when to leave, since she didn't need to continue on right away.
"So, Edgar, right? I'm Kasey." Functioning off the idea that the two had to be friends, or at least friendly since there was mention of a free latte, Kasey greets the newcomer with a cheerful smile as she holds out a hand to Edgar.

"Absolutely man. Lemme ring it up real quick."
Fishing a couple of bills from his tip jar he rang up the drink, paying for it with today's tip money. Reaching over to his left he'd grab the largest size they had, tossing it up into the air with a bit of a flourish as he shifted to the side, catching it behind his back with his opposite hand before getting to work on the drink.
"Hmmm? What would you be interrupting?"
He answered back, not quite in a whisper, but quietly since Edgar clearly didn't want Kasey to hear. He could respect that, even if he didn't understand why Edgar was worried about interrupting anything since he was at work and on the clock.
"You're good man." He said with a small chuckle, hopefully to reassure him that he wasn't ruining some date type thing or secret clandestine meeting. Popping the top onto the drink he'd slide it on the counter to him with another bright smile. "Now tell me that isn't the best Latte in town."
There was a distinct note of pride in his voice, but to be fair. It was a damn good Latte.

Edgar simply smiled at Alex's response: "Ah nevermind."
He didn't think Alex would take his comment about free latte seriously; people sure want to give him free stuff for no reason lately. He know Alex do this out of kindness, but it still feel a little weird.
"Here, I'll also get one of those lemon bar too," he said as he pulled out his wallet to pay for the pastry that he ordered, "Wouldn't be much of a latte without something to go along with it."
As soon as he finished paying for the lemon bar, he turned his attention to the young woman, who just introducing herself:
"Hello, it's nice to meet you." he shakes her hand and returned a smile back to her, "sure is nice to see more cheerful faces around here. People can be so serious and gloomy all the time."

"Nice to meet you, too." She nods as she releases Edgar's hand. He seemed a nice enough fellow, quiet and calm. Her smile quirked up at the edges at the mention of her own cheer, nodding a moment later.
"Well, we have to stay optomisitc, right? It may be hard, but that's part of how we change things." Her voice never wavers, even as she glances at Alex, turning her head ot face him for a moment later.
"And you, sir, are a coffee master." Addressing Edgar again, she lifts her own cup slightly as if toasting them both, before taking another sip.

He would ring up the lemon bar without complaint or argument over Edgar finding something to pay for. Some people just felt awkward taking free things, and he wasn't going to call attention to it. He was just happy that both of them seemed to enjoy their drinks, which was good. It meant he wasn't losing his touch.
"Can they? I haven't really noticed."
He said with a shrug. People seemed fine to him.
"Do you really think things are that bad right now? Just seems like normal days after normal days to me."
