Streetlights flickered weakly as the sky faded to black. Sea salt and smoke filled the air as a lone woman walked into the slums. Her editor told her this was a bad idea. Hell she knew it was a bad idea. Minnie was far from caring at this point. She needed a break from all the magic and dragons she normally wrote about. This new book project was going to be about supers. There would be drama! Intrigue! Possibly punching people into outer space! Just thinking about it got her creative juices flowing.
The author wanted to set it in a city similar to Emerald City. To do that she would need to visit the worst parts of the city at the worst times. So here she was. Walking around the slums, at night. She had visited many other parts of the city in time to see supers terrify the citizens with villainy or save them gallantly. Either way they didn't seem too appreciated. That needed to change. The civilians always focused on the horror of what these supers would do. Perhaps they needed someone to show them the romanticism of it. She was quite up to the task.
Looking around she examined every detail of the scenery and visualized characters doing this or that here and there. Now all she needed to see was some crime or something. Anything to give her an idea of the perils of living in the slums. She chuckled at herself. It was obvious that she never had to live in an area like this even with her father's job loss as a child. Thinking of it like a show and not a dangerous reality.
It seemed life agreed for in the shadows lurked someone. Whether they were to help or harm her she wouldn't know until it was too lateā¦ ---- Note: it is up to you whether your char is in the shadows or some dastardly NPC. Villians, civvies and heroes are welcomed.

Desperate eyes scanned over the women, foolishly wandering the Slums without any sort of guard, shaking hands weighing a gun as if they had never used one before.
The strike was quick, surprisingly enough, moving forward to latch onto her shoulder. Whether or not he succeeded, his mouth already moved to form the words, "Give me all your money, b-b-bitch!"
__________
Unknown to him, another shadow was wandering the night, this one loaded up on claws and fangs. It too, had spotted the women, and secretly hoped she wasn't so stupid as to wander with only a notebook.
Lobisomem sighed as the man struck, emaciated and pale, they could understand the feeling. They turned away before a split-second decision seemed to be made and they whirled around and padded almost nonchalantly into the open.
The man's gun hand turned to them, shaking all the more violently. "W-what the hell are you, stay back!"
Lobisomem flinched slightly, but continued onward, expecting to be shot as they closed the distance. However, the man seemed frozen like a deer in headlights, breath lodged in his throat.
Indeed, it was a terrible sight. Black fur and scarlet scales mangled together. Jagged fangs. Enormous claws and curling horns. All was accompanied with a deep, human intelligence in its eyes, the man didn't even notice when it was feet away from his hand, until it snapped the gun out of hands and crushed it. The pieces cluttered to the ground like rain.
He screamed. Echoing and shrill as he scrambled away, tossing frantic glances as he expected fangs upon his back. Lobisomem never moved.
They sat and stared at the gun, before turning their gaze toward the women, standing, and simply trying to trotted away. By this point it was clear whatever Lobisomem was, they meant no ill will to this traveler.

The man just narrowly missed Minnie's shoulder as she kept looking around. Blinking when she heard the words she turned her head, one eyebrow raised. "I may be dumb enough to walk around alone but I am not stupid enough to have money on me. " She told him snarkily. She stepped threateningly towards her would-be assailant. Gun or not, she would not be intimidated by this bumbling twit.
That was when a twisted form slinked from the shadows. Her green eyes widened. However it wasn't from fear or disgust. It was undisguised interest. Her fingers itched to write down every little detail of this new creature. Given the situation she had better watch herself. Instead her mind took it's time carefully observing every detail. From the curvature of the horns to the exact balance of fur and scales.
Then it's eyes. Under the fearsomeness it portrayed was an intelligence. A reason it acted this way. She watched as the two in front of her struggled until the gun lay in pieces between them. The girlish scream filled the air. Then, for some reason, all eyes were on here. She looked down at the pathetic man trembling before her. He wanted to rob her? Jeez how pathetic.
"I believe you should run now." She told him. The man scrambled to hid feet and scurried off, leaving the wreckage of his weapon behind him. Minnie looked to her savior.
"Thank you."

Lobisomem blinked with a bemused expression down at the women, being perfectly calm and...thankful! They raised a paw and scratched behind their ears with a smug little smirk on their face, "Welcome!"
They took another look around, ears rotating neatly. The man's screaming still echoed around the Slums, almost covering the comically random pattern of his footsteps. Their smirk fell off as more footsteps rang out, nothing went unnoticed for the unfortunate.
Looks like I'm not getting dinner here.
Their lips peeled back as the steps got closer, obviously aiming for their position. Lobisomem swung their head as they started walking, hoping this women could take a hint and follow, she'd be safe enough around them.

The interest in Minnie's eyes only grew as the creature spoke. Quite the manners they had, better than she had even with her partially blessed upbringing. Their ears twitched, looking sor something. However she found it hard to hear anything over ther screaming. The wolf-dragon, however, seemed to hear something as it began to leave. Or at least that is what she assumed. They had signaled her to follow after all. Even if she had imaginve it she followed them anyway. Have to follow the story after all.
She focused hard, trying to hear what her companion had heard. It wasn't until several repeated splashes from an unseen puddle sounded off that she understood. Someone else was here. They more than likely were not friendly and most likely would not be as kind to her saviour's appearance as the frightened thief was. She had to stay alert if she wanted all the details. All the best fiction was based off of fact after all. And tonight was building up to be one amazing story.

Lobisomem walked with head held high, walking just slow enough for a human to easily follow them. They tried to mask their irritation, speeding up whenever they sensed a approaching footsteps.
Normally, the footsteps instantly turned to fleeing, when they saw the source of their curiosity. Others, seemed they wanted to see where this was going.
Lobisomem huffed out a snort and took a sharp turn into an alley, hoping nobody would dare try a strike in such a narrow area. They shot a curious glance to the human, just to see how she was doing, "You 'K?"

Minnie quietly followed Lobisobmen as they traveled through the area. She did her best to keep up with them, trying not to irritate her saviour. That just wouldn't do. She tilted her head as they took a sharp turn. Her heart raced as she thought of the possibility of this dragon wolf taking her to a small area to attack. Would she be able to fend them off if they did? She didn't think so with the ease they dispatched her original attacker with. Taking a deep breath she calmed herself. They were leading her for a GOOD reason, she told herself, not an ill one. When they turned to her to ask how she was feeling, she jumped out of her head in shock.
"Yeah I'm fine!" she yelped. After a moment she recomposed herself.
"Sorry, I guess I was lost in my own head. I'm fine really."

And now she was scared. Of course she was scared! The idea of a human not being scared was way more ludicrous than humans simply naturally being scared.
But it was too late to just walk away and leave this women behind, considering she already had an encounter in this filthy hole, Lobisomem really didn't want to turn on the news and find a story of some journalist found dead here. They tried to soften their expression and made sure their fangs weren't out, it'd be a whole lot harder to protect this woman if she thought they were going to eat her.
The only criminals still following were clearly brave, they must have known Lobisomem was a super of some kind, but they showed no hesitation when they filed out in plain view, eyes lighting up in giddy excitement as they brandished alley weapons, blunt pipes and shards of metals.
"Would ya look at this!" One barked in a crude voice to his followers, prompting snickers from the crowd, "A super, in our home!" He leaned over to see the women, "And you, what're you? Beauty and the Beast, huh!?" Lobisomem started a low growl as the man slammed his weapon, a shard of glass as long as his arm down, releasing a shrill shriek, "You're the one busting up Emerald City, right? You're worse than a dragon!" At this, the various men and women of the Slums crept forward, faces twisted into hateful snarls.
Lobisomem gave up on scare tactics when one took a shot at them, grazing their snout. Lobisomem swung their head wildly to drive off the group before remembering the women, whimpering as they realized she was definitely not safe.
They didn't even have a second to pause before the people started stomping forward, clearly not scared of this beast that could gut them if the thought struck it. Taking a split second choice, Lobisomem fell onto their knees, providing easy access to their back, "Get...on!" They urged.

Minnie was taken aback by the sheer effort they put into trying not to scare her. It was admirable. It also made the pinkette kick herself for being scared in the first place. This wasn't like one of her books: not everything has to go bad. The world could be kind. She smiled at the wolf-dragon. That's when the others seemed to fomr from the shadows themself. A reminder that you should never let your guard down or else you could be slaughtered. There were shards and iron pipes in every hand. She could feel her heart race.
Hearing the vile words come from the man pissed Minnie off. There were hundreds of Supers in this town! Any one of them could be causing the destruction these freakazoids could be talking about. "The only thing busting up the city is arrogant shits like you! And who cares if this is a Beauty and the Beast thing? You have clearly not seen yourself in a mirror latelty." she snapped. The leader snarled and jumped for her, clearly angered by her words. jumping out of the way she felt her heart sink as the others moved in. A gunshot sent a bullet whizzing passed seconds before her companion told her to get on. Without a second thought she climbed up.
"Whatever you have planned I hope it's fast." she responded.

Lobisomem couldn't help but let out a growling chuckle at the sheer audacity of the women's reply to being threatened by all this. The thought of snapping at them flirted briefly with common sense when one tried to strike at her before Lobisomem felt the women climb on, pausing a moment before standing tall.
The original plan was a more controlled run from this mob, taking the roofs to avoid being caught, until the bang of a bullet reached their ears. The result was a wide-eyed beast exploding away from the scene, panting raggedly as they rushed to escape. The only good thing about this departure was there was no way for the mob to catch them, but they were certain the woman would be having one hell of a bumpy ride.

Minnie held onto the wolf dragon for dear life. His growling chuckle was a welcome surprise in their rather dire circumstances. She held on tightly as he stood up. Wow the world looks so different up here. Is this what tall people felt like? It was awesome. Well, except for the flying bullets. She pressed close to her companion's form in order to be a smaller target for bullets. She felt the tension in their body when the bullet whizzed by and knew that she better hold on tight. When they took off, she twisted her fingers around a few strands of fur to improve her grip. If she was hurting him she'd apologize but for now she just needed to hang tight. Sh e could hear the shouts of their pursuers behind them. They were planning to follow, their footsteps guarenteed that.
"Crap. Do these idiots ever give up?"

There looked to be no real way for this mob to capture Lobisomem, unless they had a group of bloodhounds on reserve. Still, their screaming presence was grabbing way too much attention, it would only be so long before someone dangerous showed up.
Lobisomem suddenly redirected their rough, heading right for a building. Without someone on their back, this would be trivial. However, they didn't dare buck off this women and leave her for these people. So they ended jumping almost vertically, grunting as the unfamiliar muscle use ran through their body.
The crowd groaned in frustration and pounded on the wall, some even attempting to fling objects up in a vain attempt to harm the duo. Lobisomem paused and puffed out their chest, tauntingly leaning their face over the edge to the roar of the crowd before turning and trotting away, at a much more leisurely pace than before.

Minnie watched with widened eyes as they headed straight for a building. Braciny for impact she closed them tightly. Only they didn't crash. The creature, no her companion, had jumped up onto a building. She could hear the groans and shouts of frustration below them. The wall reverberated slightly with the sheer amount of fists hitting it. As her friend leaned over and roared she couldn't help but let out a relieved laugh.
"That was the stupidest, most thrilling thing I have done in awhile. I owe you. Thank you so much." she said breathlessly.

Lobisomem headed for a more populated area, intending to drop this women off in a place where she was likely to get home safely, it was genuinely the least they could do.
Their ears perked up as she started laughing, claiming this was one of the stupidest things she had ever done...Lobisomem grudgingly agreed.
They tilted their head back, "Why...you...here?" She better have a good reason, no one came to the slums at night unless they had a really good reason or a death wish.

Hearing their question her laughter died down. Slowly. It was going to be bad news telling the creature about her reasoning. Hell telling anyone her reasons usually got people chewing her ear off. There was no need to lie however, considering how much they had been through together. Minnie tood a deep breath, making sure that all of her giggles were gone.
"You are probably going to call me an idiot," she began, "But I did it to get research for my next book. I have been writing fantasy since my first publication and I wanted to try something new. So I thought coming to the slums and witnessing how things worked might help. Granted in hindsight I should have expected to become a part of it. I'll admit I don't regret it though. I got what I came for and I got to meet you. Who are you anyway?"
