Solar flares have been shredding the power grids on earth to pieces for decades now. For a time, people attempted to survive on renewable forms of energy, but electromagnetic pulses forced those machines offline for good. It has been discovered that the Sun is collapsing. In response to the news of the impending apocalypse, people moved underground in massive subterranean cities called Hollows, in the hope that when the Sun finally went supernova they could survive the earth freezing, or the worst purge of fire in history.
As a result, the surface is desolate. Ghost towns replace once-bustling cities, and nature has taken back the acres of developed land. The canines of the world have grown to survive without human companions for the last ten years, but life is difficult and cruel. In the perpetual twilight now blanketing the earth, they continue on, unaware of their own impending doom.
