Sensitive topic, ahoy. It was something she'd wanted to avoid if at all possible. Kasey wanted to two of them to focus on the challenge and have fun; making Greyson uncomfortable was the exact opposite of that.
"I'm sorry." Her voice softens with something that might have been understanding. If there was something better to say, she didn't know the words. "I don't mind if you want to talk, but you don't have to if you don't want." She sets her pack down and eyes the trees, as well as the way they had come. She was pretty sure she'd seen some decent branches and kindling on the way up. It would be easier to start with that.

He's quiet for a few moments but shakes his head. He turns and smiles at her over his shoulder, eyes squinted closed.
"It's okay. It was a long time ago."
He turns and finishes pulling out a seeing bag before brushing off his pants and standing up.
"So what's the first challenge?"

Kasey lets him take the time he needs to sort out his thoughts, offering him a gentler smile and a nod as he changes the topic. Rising to her feet, she turns to face the area near him, but also allowing herself to gesture to the creek.
"Well, you can set up camp enough for us to cook, or you could fish. Scavenge if you like, if you know what's not poisonous." She purses her lips, recalling what the weather app on her phone had said earlier before they had started the trip.
"If I remember right, it's not supposed to rain until tomorrow, so I don't think we need to worry about any sort of weather barriers tonight. You can pick which one you'd like to tackle first."

"I think as the man...I should get the food."
He says it like a half joke, gauging her response as he purposefully prods her.

"What, you think I'm going to be all domestic and stuff because I'm a girl?" She gives him a playful pout and huffs as she crosses her arms over her chest. "Shame on you! Falling back on hunting and gathering roles like that." But they did need to set up the camp, and taking the divide-and-conquer route would accomplish what they needed more.
"You catch it, you cook it."

"Both? So what are you going to do, laundry?" He smiles smugly and points to the creek.

"I'm going to get the camp ready, dork." She rolls her eyes and shakes her head, the smile slowly returning as she raises a brow at him.
"It also sounds nlike I'm going to be playing tutor, too."

"Oh no, just you wait and see." He grabs his knife and bag, back pedaling towards the creek.
"By the end of the day you're going to ask me for lessons." He points the knife at her.

"In what? Backpedaling into the creek?" It's Kasey's turn to smirk as she waves him off. "Go have fun, huntsman. I know who to blame if we go hungry tonight."

"That's right, you're relying on me." He keeps smiling til he turns all the way around when it quickly fades as he heads down the creek.
He intends to go at least 100 yards, hoping to get out of view from Kasey who would hopefully be preoccupied.

"That's what you say now. We'll see." She watches him go for a moment, making a face at him as Greyson turns around, then refocuses on the campsite. For now, at least, he seems to be spared as she focuses on gathering kindling and a few edible plants. The fact that she's struggling not to mock herself over the hunting and gathering comment doesn't help.
Safe? For now.

He takes off his shoes and takes out his knife, fashioning it to a stick. He's seen this done before, how hard could it be? He stands in the creek barefoot, stabbing down to try and spear some fish.
Greyson misses.
Again.
Again and again.
"Fucking fish...!" The more he misses, the more frustrated he gets -!: only causes him to miss more.

The campsite was relatively easy to set up since they'd brought sleeping bags and supplies with them. The fire was set to go once lit, their bags were off to the side and Kasey even managed to dig a fire line with the toe of her shoe, digging into it a moment later. Her hands were roughened and covered in dirt, but she was fairing alright so far. Mostly because she'd also decided not to forage for things like mushrooms. If she didn't recognize any summer berries, she didn't pick them; getting food poisoning or an allergic reaction would lose more points than creativity or quantity would gain. The results weren't the greatest for her, unfortunately.
Unsure how long it's been, Kasey pulls out the cooking pot she'd brought with a thoughtful hum. Maybe she should go to the creek and get some water to save their supplies. Besides, it couldn't hurt to see how Greyson was doing, being all "alpha male provider." Her thoughts even have the air quotes in her mind as she laughs and rises to her feet.
Time to see how Mr. Man was doing. She heads off to the creek!

When she gets there she sees a wet Greyson with almost a dozen fish lined along the side of the creek. He wipes sweat from his brow before reaching down to start putting them in the garbage bag.
"Oh, hey!" He takes a deep breath, smiling wide again.
"How's it going on your end?"

"Hey there!" Kasey waves as she approaches, noting the fish that Greyson's managed to save up for them. "Oh wow!" She feels a twinge of guilt at all the extra, but hopefully they can make the best of it without letting too much go to waste. Watching as he starts putting them in the bag, she holds out the pan to her side and shakes her head.
"Figured I'd see how you were doing while I was getting water. I see you've got a good luck streak going on." Another laugh, more sheepish this time.
"Things are alright on my end. We're good to go tonight!" She should have picked more stuff, now that she's seen what she's up against. No more handicaps, she tells herself.
