"Accidentally? You'll probably be forgiven with a light reprimand. On purpose, however..." She raises a foreboding hand, as if she could will the waves to wash over him again like before. At least she has dramatic flair on her side.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah." She offers him a sheepish smile, the lie coming easily enough since she'd had to convince her friends and family during the worst of her come back. "Just sore is all. Didn't stretch as much as I should have before my last workout."

"So make sure it's an accident got it" Shane said with a quick not wanting that threatened wave with a wave of her hand...thank god she can't read my mind.
He raised eyebrow once more in thought, it seemed completely reasonable enough as a reason for her soreness but something caught his eye about the way she said it. Was it too natural or him being paranoid, cause it looked way too much like when he lied. He shook his head, nah he's just being crazy.
"Ah yeah makes sense, sorry worried you'd be the one drowning, I don't think I'd be able to help without like a branch or something to drag you out of the water with."

"Make sure no one can tell the difference." Kasey's wry humor tints her words, oblivious to the fact her friend had already broken his promise less than five seconds after making it. His choice of words catches her attention, refusing to let it go like a dog with a bone, even if he meant well by it.
"You'd probably be better off just going for a lifeguard or something." A very interesting choice of words. She lay back in the water, closing her eyes against the sudden brightness of the sun.
"Nothing to be sorry about." She turns her head and lifts it slightly with a genuine smile. "I'm just a water-repellent angel, after all."

"Now normally I could do that, but you're not no one you're a someone who can tell the difference."
Shane shot back with a grin before rubbing the back of his head. Oh right lifeguards those were a thing weren't they...not branches...jesus you're at the beach Shane there's not a bloody tree in a sight. Once again he rubbed the back of his head in embaressment.
"yeeeeeeeeeah but in my defense they probably wouldn't be half as good my duck angel."
He couldn't help snicking still at the image, genuinely happy she hadn't chosen to make fun of him.

"You're right, I am." The sound of her mirth carried over the water, making waves of its own in the open air. "Guess that means you'll have to behave around me." She shorted at their new running gag, lifting her hands up to let her fingers break free of the water and send little droplets in all directions.
"Quack-quack."

"But that's hard, behaving's borin-pffffffthahahaha"
His whining lasted a total of half a minute before she quacked and his own cheeks puffed up with laughter. Which soon exploded out of him while he clapped in the water. Unfortunately the moment wasn't too last as it led to a coughing fit where he hunched over in the water slightly, hidden wounds by aggravated slightly by the sudden laughter in water.

The sound of Shane's broken laughter caused Kasey to shift her weight, feet touching the ground beneath her but unable to keep balance as she inhaled a mouthful of water. Gagging on the horrendous salty abomination that burned her throat and nose. Wiping tears from her eyes with a quick dash of the back of her hand, she turned to try and find Shane, wading over to him and hopefully finding a handful of shirt to help hold on to to make sure he didn't keep rolling over and wind up face first.
"You okay?"

Shane panic increased a bit as he heard her cough and gag before she finally reached. He coughed extra hard as she pushed against his chest before getting a hold of the fabric and help him up. He coughed out some of the foul water and wiped away the brief forming of tears, taking a moment to catch his breath as he looked up, eyes red from said tears and salty water. Well there went any sense of comfort and normality, as per usual. With a weak sigh and slightly forced grin he asked
"I take it 'yup just peachy, let's keep swimming' isn't exactly a proper answer is it?"
Not that he really wanted to, he was far too tired and worried about attracting attention. With a slow shake of his head, Shane put a hand on her to slightly steady himself and stay afloat.
"my uh...angellic duck mind giving me a hand back to shore?"

The more he coughs, the more Kasey frets, wondering just how much water he'd inhaled or if it was just agitation. She shakes her head and helps him keep afloat as Shane asks her to.
"No, that is not an acceptable answer." She gives him a look, one he's not seen before and a very distinct one at that. The kind that tells you a big sister knows when you're hiding something.
"Come on, baby duck, let's get you to shore." They'd already attracted attention from those closest to them, but watching the two wade towards shore without anyone drowning seemed to settle the locals' nerves.

Shane had a flash of recognition at the look, a slightly somber expression appearing on his face for but a moment before he was grinning again at her next line. He decided to focus on swimming instead of the moment of attention they had attracted.
"I'll have ya know I'm not a duckling...quack"
He was able to give one more laugh for his joke as they swam along. It helped with his nervousness as he knew he was going to have some complicated explaining to do.

Kasey pulls him along as they make to shore, helping Shane remain upright as they head back to the spot where their sacks were left behind. Thankfully, it's quieter than the rest of the beach, but still a bit too populated for anything that might resemble a serious talk.
She lets him compose himself once they're fully out of the water, but waits until they reach the designated spot before bending forward to brush the sand off of her feet and legs.
"You probably should have let off on teh swimming today," she suggests without looking at him. "I could have thought of something else."

Shane couldn't tell whether or not he was thankful for the people surrounding them, on one hand it meant she couldn't fully question him on the other it made things a lot more awkward. He had a deep hole dug out for him and he probably wasn't getting out soon. He wiped off a bit of sand before shrugging as he sat down on a small towel he had brought.
"I don't think the probably should be in that sentence, and you could've and still can. Won't deny myself being an idiot but when ya asked to swim it was kinda hard to say no."
He grinned a bit but wouldn't deny the slight nervousness he had at her not looking over at him.
"Kinda why I made it a point to stay in at least slightly shallow water so I didn't end up at Davy Jones so early."

Kasey wipes her hand on her hip, smearing the last bit of sand across wet skin and swimwear alike, remaining silent as Shane speaks and tries to make light of the situation. It's a tactic she knows well, but as she reaches over for her bag, trying not to lean too far over to one side, he talks about Davy Jones. Instead, the small redhead stops to stare at him wondering if he's aware of what he's saying. She practically lunges for one of her favorite tee shirts, barely bothering withe the grunt of pain that goes with it as she does so and takes a moment to slip into it. "True." She does look at him this time, her warmth muffled but not snuffed out. "You could have done worse, and it was fun. I just don't want you hurting yourself on the way."

Shane had to have a snicker at the shirt, a message he could definitely get behind if there ever was one. Again he caught the signs of pain and had to raise an eye suspiciously, he wasn't to be petty but when a situation to satisfy his curiosity popped he could not be held accountable for what would happen.
"Sorry for worrying you, honest I am, but if it makes ya feel any better I'm a crap ton tougher than I look and have taken quite the injuries with only minimal amounts of crying for mommy."
In spite of the joke near the end, his apology was genuine as he could sense some concern for his safety. But soon apologetic became slightly devious as he smirked ever so slightly.
"But I appear to not be the only sore one here, clearly not as bad as me, but you still got an injury or two huh?"

The corners of her mouth lift at the sound of his snicker, aware of what he's seeing and not the other things he could focus on. Kasey runs a hand through her disheveled hair, but there's no semblance of order and she doesn't try to make an attempt for it.
"I'm a gymnast," she shrugs, "injuries happen." She looks up at him as she grabs her sandals out of her bag, slipping into them as she speaks.
"But good to know you're tougher than you look, because those look like a lot more than a bit of 'ow' in the morning."
