Whatever Kasey might have thought or said next screeched to an abrupt halt as Shane asked the question that had been plaguing her since the night their alter egos had met. Why had she saved him? Canary wasn't violent any more than she was. She was a made up super, mocking their status and spreading her messages. Or, sometimes, making things worse while in costume. But why even have it in the first place?
What did it mean if getting along was defined as not killing each other?
"Aren't we already?"

"W-what?"
Shane had some hope in his voice but also confusion and distrust. Hope that maybe she meant what he thought she did, that they could remain friends or at least work through this, but confusion and distrust with the suddeness and conciseness of her message. People don't change that fast and she had been steadfast in her resolve with their short argument...there had to be a second meaning or one he wasn't catching onto. Or maybe they were both just mixing eachother up, and thinking alone wasn't going to solve an issue like that.
"What do you mean, aren't we already? I see right now someone different from either of our multitude of personas, either ego we were just a pair of somewhat dorky friends...now it just feels like we're enemies, and that you're honestly worried about me hurting you, the person who's a friend and saved my life twice, all because Sanduleak and Shane are now the same instead of being two seperate individuals. So what if both egos know eachother, what's changed? I need to understand this...please Kasey."
There was so much confusion and overwhelming doubt, clouding Shane's mind at that moment, there were answers he didn't know about and that he didn't know if they were ones he should hear or would want to know. But at the very least he felt he kinda deserved it no matter the answer at this point.

Kasey wasn't sure what he was confused about, not enough to leave it just at "what," but with her own scattered thoughts, maybe it was to be expected. She rocks onto her heels, looking away as her eyes fall to the ground and her teeth grit together. Maybe she should have asked him to keep the mask, after all.
"Aren't we who we are? Kasey is Canary. I'm assuming Sanduleak is Shane." She looks up at him, almost challenging. "Our masks knowing each other isn't the problem." why, why, why, why, why.
"I don't know why I saved you." A lie, sort of. "Maybe I should have left you to drown, I don't know. I'd have lost a friend either way, right?" She shakes her head. Between the sun and the conversation, she was exhausted. She sits down again, finally, but chooses to flop down into a cross legged position instead of taking his chair. Perhaps it was giving him the advantage of height and position, but she didn't care.

Shane ran a hand through his hair in frustration now, what was the problem with them then. He had to take a breath and resist the urge at taking out hair, this was stressful and annoying and taking everything he had not to completely fall apart but then she shot that look. He was tired, hot, and admittedly depressed, he had gone through stuff he had dedicated a lot of effort to ignoring or repressing. And after admitting all this, she listens and decides to go cold hearted. Fine if she wanted a challenge, he'd give her one.
"Yes we are but why can't we still be friends? Why does me being a super make you want to drown me instead of save me? I've told you why I've done what I've done, why I work with pandemonium and hell I've told you what fucked me up in the head so bad, but you've just sat there practically calling me childish and an idiot. You're being like the people I hate, ignorant and just spouting shit instead of actually being reasonable and taking time to explain. So at least answer me this, what the hell is the current problem with me being a super? What happened to you that makes killing me seem like a reasonable course of action?"
He could feel himself slip slightly into Sanduleak's persona at this point, anger taking over and making it easier to lash back at her in an attempt to gain some answer, or clue to what was going on.

"For one, I wouldn't have chosen that." Kasey frowns, feeling their paired frustration cut through the air and widen the wall between them. The thing was, she wasn't sure if she wanted to break it down or just walk away and let it strengthen. "It's not my place to decide someone's death." Her shoulders slump as she leans forward shaking her head.
"I'm not saying you're an idiot. I'm saying I know from experience..." Apparently, the wrong ones. Kasey herself was beginning to realize just how much she had to learn, and how far she had deluded herself in moving forard, herself. Why did it have to be Shane that she first discovered. She shakes her head.
"I should go." She rises to her feet. "I need time to think about this." Preferably she fully sunk the battleship.

Shane stared at her before he fell back into his own seat, in slight defeat. He had let his temper get the better of him in an attempt to break this shell, but it appeared to toughen in response. Big fucking mistake on his part.
"...Alright...yeah probably best I guess...just promise me we'll meet again later and."
He took a deep breath to calm himself, jesus why'd this have to be stressful, why'd this have to happen with Kasey, why him? why why why why? Forcing himself to ignore the disgusting thoughts, Shane looked at her with his most genuine expression, it was awkward and a small smile with only red eyes and a slight quiver near the edges of his smile being the only indications he had been crying.
"And know that, you're a friend who saved me...if you ever need something or protection, I'll help alright?...God she'd be so pissed at me if I didn't heh."
With the shallow and weak chuckle, he flicked his wrist and with a flash from a single eye, the platform that was their elevator appeared.
"there you uh go."

Kasey nods, though it's more in acknowledgement to Shane's words than answer to his request. She leans over to pick up her bag, watching him as he tries to pull himself together. She can see the reddened eyes, the quivering smile, a genuine effort despite her having walled him off.
"We'll meet again, I'm sure." Emerald City was big, but not so big as they wouldn't. Not with at least one of them having a face known to the public.
"I'll remember." She turns towards elevator when the flash of light died, heading towards it and stepping on board without his direction or assistance.

"Thanks...sorry again..."
Shane weakly gave his thanks and was about to the lower the platform with a swing of his arm before he quickly remembered some info he had. He took a breath before giving her as serious a look as he could muster in his exhausted state.
"And if you still trust me and stuff...be careful July 1st alright? Some shit's going to down, something big. Don't know if the info is guaranteed just be prepared for something big alright?"
With his warning given he lowered the platform for her and dispelled the illusion at the alley but not the one on the roof. With another flash he had a rectangle to rest on in the air and just stare at the sky while he did some major thinking over everything that happened...fuck talk about a casual stroll...

"Yeah." She nods, listening to the warning he gave with interest. Just what 'big thing' was he talking about? It seemed even Shane didn't know. Wonderful."
She watches him until the platform lowers her beyond sight, closing her eyes as the light flashed and freed the alley of its illusion. Her steps were silent and steady as she left, though she didn't feel that way. Even the beach was unappealing now, too many people and too noisy for the thoughts she carried.
It was time to go back home and make something.
